Over the summer break my brother Spencer and I play many sports. We also went to the program Arts and Crafts. We both thought arts and crafts was boring, but our parents made us do it to get out of the house. Every other day we would go to this program. We had to have someone take us to these activities because our parents were at work. Her name was Kerigan she took us to all the summer activities and picked us up from them. One day when arts and crafts was finished Spencer and I went and played at the park because our ride wasn’t here yet. Spencer and I were playing tag on the playground and climbing on the play globe because there was nothing else to do. We were getting tired of playing tag so we went by a tree to wait for our ride. My mom worked at the Cresco Hospital at this time, so Kerigan probably thought we were over there talking to our mom. I had twelve missed calls from her because I couldn’t pick up my phone. I couldn’t pick up my phone because I didn’t have good enough grip just with my feet and one hand. She called me one last time and I had to answer. I felt really bad that I haven’t answered any of her calls, so I answered her one last call. I knew I was risking the chance, but I had to. I leaned on the branch that I was sitting on, and answered my phone. Kerigan asked “Where are you guys?” I told her that we were in the tree and trying to get down. When I said “Down” I slipped. When I started slipping it scared Spencer and he fell backwards onto the ground. I caught myself, but Spencer didn’t. When he fell he was laughing and crying at the same time. I didn’t think he was hurt. One second he would laugh, and the next he would cry. I asked if he was okay and he said yes. I grabbed him by the arm to help him up, but he started screaming when I touched him. I then thought he broke his arm, but that wasn’t it because he could move it just fine. I was surprised I never got hurt when I
Before long I spotted my friends a few feet away and I walked in their direction. I found my 3 friends roaring with laughter, and I couldn’t help but laugh as well. A few hours later we were all piled in the car and Ashley’s parents drove home. We sat in a comfortable silence because everyone was exhausted from all the fun that we had. I smiled to myself in the dark, as I thought about what an amazing story my trip to six flags would make in the
On the way to camp Kangaroobie we went to Mr Mcguane’s farm. The year 5 bus broke down so we came late. When we got there, we walked around this little river skipping rocks and getting stuck in the mud. When we arrived at camp, went to our cabins, and I was with, Emily, Felicia, Sarah, Grace and Klara, we packed our bag and went for a walk down to the beach! It was really fun because we went across rivers and walked through the sand dunes! When we got there, we jumped off and slid down the sand
Papa was already ready, and we started to go into the wagon. When we started to move I was so excited. The ride took way longer then I thought it would so I started playing with the dirt on the wagon floor. By the time I looked up we were in Strawberry, I felt the excitement rushing up to my head. We were one of the first wagons there so we were in the front.
Personal narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience. Although a great deal of writing has a thesis, stories are different. A good story creates a dramatic effect, makes us laugh, gives us pleasurable fright, and/or gets us on the edge of our seats. A story has done its job if we can say, "Yes, that captures what living with my father feels like," or "Yes, that’s what being cut from the football team felt like."
We went to New Mexico for a week to build a playground. The trip was long and hot but it was worth it. The playground was going to be built at a Manuelito Najavo Childrens Home in Gallup, New Mexico. In the middle of their dorms. We arrived at a cottage and starting unpacking, choosing rooms, and all that. Dinner came, we all took showers and went to bed.
We were traveling thought all the beautiful places and cities in the country. During our vacation, one day we stopped at a restaurant in a small town. As we were eating, my 16-year-old cousin said to me hurry up, finish your meal and we’ll go play outside. I was a little boy just turned six years. I was excited to go play outside with my cousin, so I was the first one to finish with my meal.
On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...
It was in July, and we wanted to go camping. I asked my dad if we could go up to our family's cabin in Elk Springs, which is near Montrose. He agreed, so Chase, Tyler and I, all sixteen years old, packed our stuff and were ready to go camping. With excitement, we jumped into Chase's truck, and took off to the woods.
In week one I examined a right versus right scenario that involved the company’s diversity recruitment
Although I am only sixteen years old and in the eleventh grade of high school, many things have influenced me and caused me to be the person that I am today. I hope that these things will continue to help me be a better person and influence me as my life continues. Some of the things that have influenced me have been church, my family, my friends, and school.
I was seven the first time my brother asked me to play catch with him. With him being five years older than me I looked up to him and wanted to do as much as possible with him. So I quickly cheered yes, and we headed outside to the emerald ocean that was our front yard. To this day I can remember the excitement I felt in my stomach. The ball flew back and forth between us like a large leather bullet. With every catch and throw I was having more and more fun. I can remember how much I enjoyed spending time with my brother and how much closer I felt to him
One memory that comes to mind belongs to a day of no particular importance. It was late in the fall in Merced, California on the playground of my old elementary school; an overcast day with the wind blowing strong. I stood on the blacktop, pulling my hoodie over my ears. The wind was causing miniature tornados; we called them “dirt devils”, to swarm around me. I stood there, watching the leaves kick up and then settle. My friends called me over to the wooden playground surrounded by a sea of mulch chips. The bridge squeaked furiously under our weight. An unannounced game of tag started and we found ourselves weaving in and out of the wooden fortress and the trees that surrounded it. My shoe became untied and I took a time out to tie it with a method that no one uses here. We heard an adult voice; it was time to go in. We lined up single file, supposedly in alphabetical order but no one ever does. I liked that, I never liked being in the back. While waiting for everyone to line up, I looked up at the trees that line the walkway.
It was the day of Fourth of July.It was a classic day for me,I didn’t do that much but I went over to my grandmas house. My grandma asked “do you want something to eat?” “yes I’m starving,I could eat a cow right now.”I said. I just started snatched big chunks of food and stacking them on my plate. After I was done eating,I went to go play with my uncle’s daughter, Kayla.Kayla has a brother named Jonathan and my cousin’s name is Mark.We played outside, in a big grassland with lots of sticks, leaves and more.We planned on making a fort.We pretended that we were in the army. Me and Kayla were on a team and Mark and Jonathan were on a team.Me and Kayla started to snatch sticks and leaves
Oh my God! TJ!“ It was just my mom.She was crying and calling my name again and again.I was so embarrassed and disappointed of my self.I had let her down. After, two of the EMT guys put us on an ambulance. Finally,we made our way to the hospital. My friend john and me were sent in palo alto medical center. It took us about fifteen minute to get there. My friend john was alright. He had a couple of stitches in his head and his arm. He got relieved after a couple of tests but, I was severely injured. I was lying on a hospital bed and thinking what I would have done in the past. Cause this terrible accident happened to me. I was sent to el camino hospital, where I went to the operation theater for my hipbones surgery. The doctor told me after surgery that my hipbones was fractured the reason they had to put a plate in hipbones to stay together.Although, my left arm was also fractured the reason I could not feel my arm. After surgery, they took me to the other room and gave me a couple of injections. Momentarily, I went to sleep. I woke up in the next day and thinking hopefully it was just a dream, but it’s not. I opened my eyes and saw a couple of relative looking me like a stranger. My dad came over my bed and gave me a hug and I literally started crying after thinking about the accident. I could not believe after a massive car accident I was still alive. Doctors kept in hospital couple of
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
