Personal Narrative: Why Hunting Wasn T A Sport

Ted Kerasote once said, “For us hunting wasn’t a sport. It was a way to be intimate with nature.” I like this quote because when you hunt you see a lot of things out in nature that you normally wouldn't. My favorite memory is when I shot my second deer with my cousin.
Last fall I was hunting with my cousin on my uncles field line and food plot. My uncle has two box stands, one is just looking out onto a cut corn field, the other is in a little nook in the woods on a food plot and the field on the other side of the food plot. Me and[k[o my 2 older cousins Brady and Garrett have been talking about hunting together for awhile. Finally we went and on the first day we all sat the box stand looking onto the field and my uncle was on top of the food plot. We sat an talked and later that morning my cousin saw 3 does and they were too far for my shotgun so they both shot at them with their rifles and dropped all 3 in their tracks. We sat and talked all day without seeing any. It came to almost dark and deer started funneling out onto the plot in front of us. They kept coming and garrett said get your gun ready. I put the gun up but the deer winded us and started walking back to the woods. I picked the biggest doe and aimed behind the shoulder and BOOM The gun slamming against my shoulder! The deer dropped and never moved. We sat and waited a few minutes, and thought we are going to have to hurry with gutting it before it is dark. We rushed down and made sure it was dead, I started by cutting the stomach open and cutting the guts loose from the body. Me and garrett lifted them out and tossed the deer on the back of the ATV. I called my mom to tell her she can leave the house to pick me up and that i got a deer. We hung it from the tractor bucket and took some
