“Five days, more like a lifetime, since I had landed in 4927 A.D. , a place of carelessness and obliviousness. I had yet to figure out my plan of escape since I had not figured out how to fix my damaged apparatus, but I saw little hope in doing so. My findings so far had been minescule, I suppose if I found time of leisure and no disruptions, I could maybe look around someone's home, if that was what it was still called. I had decided to call the species that live there Nescius, it seemed to fit the part. They weren’t very mature, besides for a select few of them, the Nescius all had dirty blonde hair, not very tall but also not short. When I first arrived they were all clingy, in fact they wouldn’t leave me alone. I decided to look around, and see what I could find out about the Nescius, since the only words I understood from their language were the …show more content…
To further my investigation I decided to pick up whatever the stringy object was on. I poked it with my finger, though this time it didn’t get caught, this just made me more agitated. And when I did touch it this time it felt more prickly and not sticky like I imagined it. I could also now see there were two parts to it because it was eye level. The first half was the one with stringy hairs and the second half had tiny looking hooks, all in rows and not jumbled together like the first half. So, I decided to try communicating with the Nescius, though expecting no luck. I left the room and headed outside still carrying it. I slowly approached a group of the Nescius and held up the object, specifically pointing to one of the straps. I did not know if any of them had names but one of them came right up to be, bowed and grabbed it right out of my hands. Slid it right onto his foot, and then something weird happened. He lifted up one of the straps with the tangled hairs, and it made a crackling sound, then he pulled it higher and laid it down
I noticed how white and well-shaped his own hands were. They looked calm, somehow, and skilled. His eyes were melancholy, and were set back deep under his brow. His face was ruggedly formed, but it looked like ashes – like something from which all the warmth and light had dried out. Everything about this old man was in keeping with his dignified manner (24)
“ I wonder what this family thought about when their mortgage finally outgrew their crops, and thus gave the signal for their eviction. Many thoughts, like flying grouse, leave no trace of their passing, but some leave clues that outlast the decades. He who, is some unforgotten April, planted this liliac must have thought pleasantly of blooms for all the Aprils to come. She who used this washboard, its corrugations worn thin with many Mondays, may have wished for a cessation of all Mondays, and soon.” (Leopold
Shrines that Nacirema use for their secret ceremonials are bathrooms. Group of vestal maidens work in temple to heal the sick were actually nurses or medical workers in hospital, and bundle of hog hairs are toothbrush. Miner depicts daily routine like brushing our teeth in uncanny way like using bundle of hog hairs into mouth as daily private mouth-rite ceremony. Breast augmentation was a unique ritual to make women’s breasts big in Miner’s article. Miner manipulates language by describe regular human behaviors into something odd, many things Nacirema act created allusions as Nacirema is from an exotic tribe from ancient time. Reader can get Minor’s sense of humor when he portrayed American as Nacirema, and when he referred a dentist as Holy-mouth-men. I saw the humor of Miner’s story. Miner’s use of ironic humor on regular daily routine, made reader to feel what those activities were something bad we did toward our body. His manipulation of language made regular activities of human beings seem uncivilized. His way of ironic humor made me know that sometimes what we do daily and considered as a natural things to do, might be rather odd for people from a different culture to
This extract emphasises the lonely, outworld feeling that would have been felt living in such settings. This puts into perspective the feeling that will be felt during the coarse of the plot development.
“The teacher’s desk was supplied with drawers, in which were stored books and other et ceteras of the profession. The children observed Nig very busy there one morning before school, as they flitted in occasionally from their play outside. The master came: called the children to order; opened a drawer to take a book the occasion required; when out poured a volume of smoke. “Fire! Fire!” screamed he, at the top of his voice. By the time he had been sufficiently acquainted with the peculiar odor, to know he was imposed upon. The scholars shouted in laughter to see the terror of the dupe, who, feeling abashed at the needless fright, made no very strict investigation, and Nig once more escaped punishment. She had provided herself with cigars, and puffing, puffing away at the crack of the drawer, had filled it with smoke, and then closed it tightly to deceive the teacher, and amuse the scholars. The interim of terms was filled up with a variety of duties new and peculiar. At home, no matter how powerful the heat when sent to rake hay or guard the grazing herd, she was never permitted to shield her skin from the sun. She was not many shades darker than Mary now; what a calamity it would be ever to hear the contrast spoken of. Mrs.Bellmont was determined the sun should have full power to darken the shade which nature had first bestowed upon her as best befitting.

Similarly, ashes take the form “of ash-grey men, who moved dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air”. (21) The stiff, weak movements show its inhabitants to be barely alive. These men have the same lack of life and vitality as their surroundings do. This is seen in the inhabitants of the valley. George Wilson, who...
1. The voting game was interesting, and it was an analogy to real life situations. Initially I was confused and really did not understand the game. At first I assumed that if I voted the number 1 I would not receive any money, and if I voted the number 0, I would receive money. I was thinking this was a tricky game, and everyone would vote 0 because if they voted 1 they wouldn’t receive any money. I was wrong. Only fifteen students voted for the number 0: the rest voted for the number 1. I received $30,000 while the people who voted the number 1 received $38,000, $8,000 more! I then understood the game and how I should vote, but then a classmate pleaded his case and hoped everyone would vote 0, so the money we received would increase and we
“Somewhere, a long time ago, he dimly recalled telling somebody, an English collector of some sort, that this genuine, authentic Naskapi canoe was in fact Abanaki, and he should buy it and take it back with him to Europe to impress all his friends. In fact, now that he took the time to concentrate on the issue, he realized that he may have done that quite frequently over time. With a lot of canoes, and a lot of academics, among other things. Maybe some of the mistakes in the

I am by myself wearing my blue jeans and an old flannel shirt. It is cool outside but I decided to leave my gloves at home, feeling comfortable with my warm shirt and my sturdy boots.
As a teenager, you are always told that you are either “Too old for this” or “Too young for that.” It always seemed to me that my parents wanted me to grow up and be independent, but they also wanted me to be their baby forever. The problem is, sorry parents, you can’t be a kid and an adult at the same time. Shocker, I know, but it is the honest truth.
