Around the time when I was 10 or 11 my friends invited me to come stay at their grandpa’s house in the country with them for a night. One was my younger friend Ethan, who was a year younger than I was and his sister Ashlyn who was a couple years older. It took a bit of convincing but I eventually managed to sway my mom into letting me go. The drive there was relatively boring. I remember sitting in the car watching the trees and fields go by. It was early spring so there was still a lot of snow on the ground and a bit of a chill, but it was still a fairly nice day and I recall thinking about how pretty the scenery was. During the drive I would get out my Nintendo DS and play games with Ethan. In total I think the drive took an hour …show more content…
I can’t quite recall his name, but Ethan and Ashlyn’s grandpa was waiting for us when we got there. He was pretty rough around the edges, you could tell he worked outside a lot, but he was a nice guy. Almost immediately upon our arrival we were presented with horses in which for us to ride. I spent some time relearning to ride horses before riding with my friends for the rest of the day. After the day was reaching it’s end, we all headed inside as while the day might have been nice being the time of year it was it was still going to be pretty cold out at night. I remember I wasn’t really a fan of the inside of their home because my allergies acted up from the level of pet fur everywhere. Despite that though we watched TV and played games for a little while before eating dinner, which if I recall correctly was hamburgers, I think. I also remember their grandpa telling me about a postcard he’d made with a pretty black horse on it and other interesting things. As the evening died down Ethan’s grandpa said he had something to show me outside, so I grabbed my coat and prepared to head out. He talked about how the stars out here were way brighter than out in the city and he wanted to show me. I exited the house with him, Ethan, and Ashlyn and looked up the sky. I remember just seeing all the stars and the milky way and just being astounded at how beautiful it all
After returning from the first hiking trail of the day we loaded back up in the car to head to another area of the park. The drive was extremely nerve racking my mother in law
I was too excited to sleep that night so I just stayed up and read. It was finally 4:30 in the morning and time to get up. After a quick bowl of cereal. I jumped in the pickup and drove to where I was going to hunt. It was still dark when I got there so I grabbed my stuff and started up the mountain. I got to where I wanted to glass from, and waited for it to get light, so I could start looking for elk.
We loaded the van, and then we set off to go home. The trip home was pretty quiet. We stop a few times and my Mom always says “We’re almost there, guys.” I’m so glad I did. Well, after many, many grueling hours, we finally arrived home!
It was a cool, June morning, I had my bags packed and ready to go, and just like that I was on the road to Niagara Falls! We started by getting up at five O'clock in the morning.I remember waking up to the smell of french toast, bacon, and eggs. We packed our bags in the truck, then hit the road!
So we headed back up to camp with our flashlights tight in our hand. When we made it up we all went to bed, the parents slept in a cabin and all five kids slept in a large tent besides my little sister who begged to sleep with my mom and
Maybe it’s the fact that I tend to stay in my room all weekend, which leads to people thinking I’m studying when in reality I am probably binge watching a TV show or maybe it’s my glasses, but most people who don’t know me too well assume that I am smart. Now that is a great thing for me because I don’t have to try as hard to impress them, but I end up finding myself in a bit of a problem. The problem is that everyone thinks I enjoy admiring school textbooks. But the truth is I’m usually admiring my Justin Bieber poster on my bedroom wall. Ever since I was in sixth grade I’ve been a huge fan of Bieber. His music always brought a feeling of calmness and back in the day his “never say never” motto, was what I lived by. I might still be living by that motto because I’ve decided to write this essay
It was sunny and 85 degrees. It was the life. I soon saw my grandparents and ran to them. We drove back to the resort, and went to our room. It was the biggest room I've ever stayed in. My Mom, Dad, Sister, and I stayed in a room, My cousins and Aunt and Uncle stayed in a room, and my grandparents stayed in a room.
On the Saturday of the 10th our dad woke Ethan, Owen and I up really early. We made sure everything was packed and we drove to our grandma’s house. My dad opened up his car door and the cold air flooded through. Ethan got out of the passenger seat and joined Owen and I in the back. Our grandpa sat in passenger while our dad drove. Owen and our grandma sat in the way back while Ethan and I sat behind our dad and grandpa. We got there a little bit before Lincoln, Logan, Marshall, Aunt Janette, and Uncle Steve. When they got there we did all of the boring security stuff and were on our way to Atlanta, Georgia.
One hot summer day in July, my dad's side of the family wanted to go to Adventureland in Altoona, Iowa. It was a yearly tradition for all of us grandkids to go with just our grandma and grandpa. Usually they went into the park, watched us go on a couple rides, rode some with us, then they would leave the park and go shopping instead. That ment all the cousins got to be in the park alone.
My older sister Bri asked if I wanted to ride the rollercoasters. I was so thrilled and excited to get on the rides. Kris and Karla stayed with my mom, while Bri and I got on some
I remember thinking to myself, I really need to get up there and explore the mountain. Sadly, due to a heavy workload, I wouldn't be able to get to the mountain until the following Summer. When that day finally arrived we packed up the kids and headed for the mountain. The sky was clear and a deep blue; like something from a National Geographic Documentary I watched as a kid. Once we arrived at the Nisqually entrance I saw a small log house in the middle of the road and my heart began to beat a little faster with each minute we waited in line to pay our entrance fee.
We were all bundled up because it was cold outside. We stayed nice and warm while we waited. It was quiet but just being with my grandpa was an experience I will never forget. We didn’t shoot anything the first day, you have to wait for just the right deer. The second day we changed up our positions and my grandpa got a nice buck.
When I was thirteen years old my family and I went on a vacation to Las Vegas NV. The parents went out to a concert that night so my siblings and me were home alone.
My grandparents live in a small town called Manning. Manning is located in western Iowa and is about four hours away from Anamosa. The night before we were going to leave my grandparent’s house, my dad took Logan (my twin brother), Addie (my younger sister), and me to a party at an extended family member’s house. My mom had stayed at my grandparent’s house because she felt sick. This worried me, but I forgot about it as we arrived.
A Walk In The Park When you were growing up, were there ever family members that you saw less than the others? Well for my family that was my dad's side, even though distance wise they are my closest relatives it's still about an hour and a half to two-hour drive down to North Bergen where they live. My mom's side of the family lives between two and half hours to eight hours away and we somehow managed to always see them the most. Most of the time when we saw my dad's family it was just by chance that we were down by their house and had time to spare, though on occasion we actually planned our time together.
