Running Totals Accounting is a job that I have had my eyes set on for years. While I was younger, I did a lot with money and it had fascinated me. My fun was playing Monopoly as the banker or going shopping with my parents and add up their total to see how close I get. I felt math and cash was my thing and still is to this day, all because of what I did when I was younger. I want to be successful in what I love to do. On my ninth birthday my sister and I had received money as gifts. My family took us shopping so that we can spend our money on toys. I stuck a toy in the cart that costed $35 so I subtracted $35 from $100 and knew I had about $65 left. I did this same exact thing over and over with different valued toys. I did this so I knew
how much I could spend and so that I chose wisely. But of course I couldn’t calculate for the sales tax so I accidentally went five dollars over, so my parents paid for that. From that point I knew I wanted to deal with cash and math. To be successful in what I do is my dream. I found myself enjoying math and cash when I went shopping and started adding up my total to completely use up my money. It didn’t stop there, I kept a running total of what my parents put in the cart while shopping and came close every time. Monopoly was one of my favorites because I could be the banker and do the job with mental math. In the end, I found what I wanted to do with my life and dream to be successful at it.
I had a different pursuit in careers in becoming an Accountant. The reason I wanted to pursue being an Accountant was for my love for math. Math was always my favorite subject, and I was excellent in it. Some teachers would even ask me to help others in the class that was struggling. At first, I did not take Accounting serious because I was still focused on wanting to play baseball. My goal of becoming an Accountant started because I not only stopped playing baseball, but ended my baseball career mentally in order to focus on my education. I had to make a choice, whether go to college only focusing on baseball and worry about student loans or go to a community college for free and focus on my education. I could see baseball would only get me so far, compared to receiving a higher education. My mom and grandparents helped make that decision, so I did not want to let them down by going after an unrealistic dream. On the other hand, since I was so good at math and it is an important skill to have an order to be an Accountant, setting that goal was an easy choice to
“So much potential for growth” and “A global career” were some of the comments made by the speakers that drew me in. Through research, I repelled the presumptions I had about being an Accountant and quickly fell in love with this career. I do not have a ‘destined to be’ reason, like that I came from a generation of accountants, it was just from taking the opportunity given to me and utilizing it to my best ability. Another opportunity I

Writing this essay was difficult because I had to remember events that had occurred in the past; one of the challenges, was trying to place everything in order, and be as accurate as possible. It was also difficult for me to write about a life experience that had made a big impact in my life. I felt successful as I reflected on my story and realized I had come a long way. During this process I learned that I have to do multiple organizers to have coherent ideas. I also learned that I have to have at least three or four drafts before I let anyone else edit. I write and then change things and I do this about three or four times before I am convinced with my writing.
Every day, many people question my passion for pursuing accounting as a profession and the first answer I think of is that I am good with numbers. However, advancing in the field has made me realize that my passion is not only based on figures. Growing up as a kid, I was privileged to have a piggy account where I would save as little as fifty cents per week. Since my parents rewarded me in monetary value as a positive reinforcement in cases of good behaviour, I was motivated to maintain good manners so long as my savings increased. As time went by, I realized I had saved way “too much” money for a little child. The challenge came in the management of the funds because I was focused on spending more on pleasurable activities. However, the guidance of my parents enabled me to prioritize on the more important things and save more. I took interest in managing may own account as a child and even pursued accounting courses in high school. The interest grew deeper because I gained more insight on the facts about accounting and the career. Also, I believed that it is career that one would be self-employed thereby avoiding the dilemmas of lacking jobs after graduating. For instance, one would easily start their own business and manage their finances comfortably.
Run. That was the single thought that consumed my exhausted mind. I had to run, to keep moving, or else all would be lost. My feet pounded against the rugged, African earth and the wind lashed out at my bare skin. Sweat streaked down my sweating forehead, my muscles scorched and every bone in my body pleaded with me to stop, to slow down.
A personal narrative is normally about a single person and a certain event or events in that person’s life. My narrative isn’t only about a single person. I’m not just me anymore. I am sharing my body now. I share me, myself, and I with another person.
“Go on,” the doctor urged quietly, behind his thick-rimmed glasses. He slid back into his chair and gripped his pencil tighter. A fan turned slowly, bathing the room in amber light.
Personal Narrative (The Night That Changed My Life) It was winter break in New England and I was headed on an exciting trip on a large cruise ship, the Allure of the Seas. Royal Caribbean’s second largest cruise ship at the time.
I wish what I now know is what I knew 6 months ago. (lights camera Action) When my freshman year of high school almost ended and summer was creeping closer and closer, I started to get too big for my bridges. My parents have always trusted me because I have never given them a reason not too. So when summer break had begun to start, and the possibilities to hang out with friends became endless, I had so many things I wanted to do. I was afraid my parents wouldn't let me do the things I had dreamt of doing all school year. I got into this habit of lying. Once I started to tell little white lies, I couldn't stop. Lie after lie would build up, and I had to make my story of why I was late coming home. It had worked for a long time throughout the
