The things that shape us as individuals into who we are now, and who we want to be are all different. Everyone has unique events in their life that caused them to have make tough decisions, and decide if what happened will make them or break them. These key events are what make our own personal origin story. Now our stories may not be as exciting as Wonder Woman or other well-known super heroes; however they are what makes us who we are and who we hope to eventually become. The home I grew up in getting foreclosed, straining my hip flexor really bad and having to go through physical therapy, and the story of my first car are the three impactful events that create my origin story. My parents had gotten behind on payments and we received our …show more content…
30 day eviction notice. It was really tough to come to this realization that we had to leave, because this was my childhood home for majority of my life. Living in this home was all that I knew, and I could not imagine living anywhere else. Each day that passed the process of moving and trying to find a new home to live in was getting tougher and tougher. Although we were experiencing a devastating situation I feel this is where I learned it was time to start growing up. I knew my parents were under a lot of stress and were in desperate need of something to help ease their minds. I began to pick up tasks around the house that my parents usually did, or had to constantly remind my sisters and I to do. I cleaned the house frequently to keep my mother from having to do so, and I made sure I kept the trash in the house dumped, because I knew that was a major pet peeve of my father to have the trash overflowing. These tasks may seem minor, but a major part of growing up is doing what you know needs to be done. This situation also forced me begin to grow up because I learned that everything was not about me. The foreclosure was taking place around the time of my birthday, and I knew my parents were struggling trying to figure how to find somewhere else for my family to move and give me a birthday present. To help ease their minds I told them that I understood what was going on and that I would not be upset about not receiving anything for my birthday. This I believe was a true showing that I was maturing. Most kids would have been very selfish and complained about not receiving something, but I knew and understood the circumstances. Even after the foreclosure happened and we found a new home to live in I continued to act in this manner and did everything I could to help the course of our drastic transition. After learning extremely important life lessons of growing up and responsibility I discovered what I wanted to be in life.
I figured this out not simply by just picking something I was good at, but from what I originally saw as a failure. During one of my track practices I chose not to warm up properly and strained my hip flexor really bad. The pain I felt was excruciating. Not only physically, but mentally as well. The pain hurt me deep as I knew that I messed up. I immediately felt as if I had failed myself and my team by not doing what I knew I was supposed to do. I limped to the training room and I was told by the trainer that I was projected to miss 6-8 weeks. In high school track and field 6-8 is an extremely long time frame as the track meets are held weekly and the regular season isn’t very long. This recovery time frame would only give me about 2-3 weeks to train and hit the qualifying times I needed for conference, regionals, and states. As optimistic as I was I knew that was not enough time to accomplish the goals that I set for myself. After hearing this devastating news I was referred to a physical therapist and that is where I learned that was exactly what I wanted to be. I remember how I felt when he said I would be back competing in 3-4 weeks instead of the 6-8 weeks I was originally told, and that is a feeling that I want to give other people and
athletes. The things that shape who we are as individuals are different for everybody. For some it takes one drastic event and others it may two or three major events like myself. These twoevents in my life helped define who I am. I learned to grow up, and what I wanted to do with my life. I easily could have let these situations tear me down and lead me down a different path; however I used them to my advantage. This is my origin story.
Stories are the way humans share, create, and explore their many experiences and identities with each other. When a story is told, the original content lingers depending upon how the storyteller recalls the content. Once the story is retold, it often takes on different details and meanings, because each storyteller adds their own perspective, experience, and meaning. The story then begins to have its own life. Each storyteller has a connection to the beginning and the end of the story.
I am now officially in my Senior year of Cross Country , and am close to the end of my season. My first race of this year though was a big accomplishment for me, because I hadn`t been able to run. When I ran that race though it made me just so happy I was able to finish it, I was`nt happy with the time, but there is always time for improvement. I was glad to be racing again and being apart of the team again. I believe that my injuries were a barrier in my way, but they did not stop my sports career.
You are going to want to give up, you are gonna get impatient but it is vital that you listen to what you are told. The old saying, “Minor setback major comeback” is very relevant to the patients going through any kind of injury. You may be broken now, but if you heal correctly you could come back better than you were before. The most important outcome for me is that my patients have gotten the best care they could have received and they have recovered to the fullest extent and for my patients I would like them to know that their injury does not define them, it is what happens after that matters the most. The methods that I would want to use would be pushing my clients to always work hard for what they want to achieve; Granted, there are different injuries so each one will be handled in a different way. For example, if a client comes in with a torn ligament in their arm it is not going to be an easy process for them. My job just does not involve making sure my clients heal, but also motivating them not give up and to always see the brighter side of their injury. I will know that I have accomplished all of my patients’ goals when they are healthy and ready to be active again. Giving someone a second chance and watching them make the most out of it is rewarding enough. As long as I did my duties as an Athletic Trainer, I would feel accomplished
Every culture has a different story of their origin. Each story varies in setting, main characters, and religious aspects. Although the stories are different, the sole purpose is the same for each – to explain how each civilization came to be. In order for a civilization to fully understand their past, they must critically break down the components of their origin story. Creation stories establish appropriate relationships within society by the revelation of the punishment laid out by the gods on unsatisfactory vassals, the importance of a hero figure, and the exposure of human survival based on nature.
Throughout my life, my work ethic, my mental strength, and the skills I have learned, are largely because of my athletic background and all of the things I have gone through with them. To be good at sports, one does not have to
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
I am an undocumented student at UC Davis. When I am asked a simple question such as, "describe your personal experiences", I ask myself: Where do I begin?
From a young age, I was very curious. Curiosity caused my mind to see everything from a different perspective than most. I saw what could be improved and how I could improve. For example, when it came to editing movies, I was always able to see what could how it could have been better or I questioned how they had created it. My curiosity led me to try many different activities throughout high school, such as film camps, stage managing for plays, yearbook, and even creating videos for Rochester High School’s awards day. Finally, my junior year, I decided it was time I made films of my own for competitions. I wanted to have something that I could call my own. When it came to the two films I did for contests, I was there throughout the whole process.
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Well, who really am I? Am I rude, strict or obnoxious? Or am I loving and caring? Think and know me better.
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My mother, father, brother, and two sisters were all born in Pennsylvania and I am the odd ball and I was born in Adrian, Michigan. From when I was a child I always loved being involved with sports because of my competitive nature. I grew up playing soccer and having success with that but then my love changed and I began playing lacrosse and football. I started playing lacrosse in middle school and played
I devoted so much time and effort into that sport and to stop playing seriously like this was heart breaking. I listened to all my family and friends about how fast I was and decided to try out track. I knew that I wouldn’t hurt by doing this and I didn’t want to stop playing sports. I always thought how track would be a sport where if you have natural talent, you will be good. I decided to give it a go and after running over a mile in the first practice I was a little reluctant to keep going. I couldn’t keep running all these long distances when I’m not in shape for it. I kept telling myself this so I would just keep pushing through it. My mind was in a million places questioning if I should have just stuck with playing basketball even though I didn’t find it was fun as it used to be. So, after a few months of hard training and practice, I stuck with track. My coach, my family and my friends all persuaded me to do it because they thought I would do good and strive throughout the season. This was a hard change for
I am by myself wearing my blue jeans and an old flannel shirt. It is cool outside but I decided to leave my gloves at home, feeling comfortable with my warm shirt and my sturdy boots.
Having to relearn all those skills that I once knew was a frustrating time especially since I was starting up again at a pretty advanced age for the sport. Faced with countless mental blocks, I wasn’t able to advance nearly as quickly as I had originally hoped to. Nevertheless, my passion for the sport pushed me to keep trying and oftentimes brought me way outside of my comfort zone. I had to learn to really trust myself because if I didn’t, I would be extremely prone to injury. As I kept trying, I progressively gained more and more new skills that I once thought that I would never be able to perform.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
