Literacy, ability to read, write, listen and speak is a backbone of all type of learning. It would be difficult in to survive in this world without literacy. My literacy journey began from my high school. According to Fredrick Douglass, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. Student's motivation toward studies increases when their parents get involved in it and pay full attention toward their child education. I remember the days when my mom helped me to learn number and alphabets. She always played my favorite TV show “Sesame Street “. I loved this show in my childhood. Playing Crossword puzzle with my father helped me a lot in learning new words of English. My literacy journey began from high school. Although English is not my first language, I worked very hard throughout my school life to read, write, and understand English. Mostly people believe that English is the way to succeed. People spend a lot of time and money to learn English. From reading people develop the skill of understanding sentence structure, grammar, and spelling. As everybody, I also came here to get a better life in future. I was very excited to go to new school at a very different place, make new friends. One of the biggest challenges for me, after coming here, was to learn English. In our house, academics were the main priority for my parents. In the start, I had very hard time to learn English. I did not pay too much attention to my English classes. I liked to study my other subjects except for the English. In my junior year, I had to write a thesis about William Shakespeare.
