In the beginning of sophomore year I got my first job, and I still work there currently. Everyone always remembers their first job, whether it's good, or bad. First jobs are influential, and are the starting point for the rest of your career. My first job, all started out going into Romanos Greenhouse for a Mother’s Day gift for my grandmother. My mother was looking for a job, because she was in between job searching and quitting her current job at the bank, and I was a sophomore, thinking about job opportunities but not wanting to work somewhere like Market Basket. My mother and I both made a comment on how we’d love to work there because it was so pretty, and right then and there he offered us both a job if we were interested. We both …show more content…
The values that I’ve learned working there will continue to follow me, and influence me throughout my life and career. I would say that working at the greenhouse for my first job, was a great overall experience because I really enjoy what I do there, and I get along great with my boss. He is very understanding and has taught me a lot about the greenhouse. Everyone thinks that I just water plants when I’m at the greenhouse, but I am there for the whole growing process, and I get to see all of the plants I seed, grow. I think that's pretty cool. I believe that first jobs are important and they are able to shape you into responsible and proactive adults. Everyone has to begin somewhere when starting their career path, and I think a first job is influential for everyone. Everyone’s first job impacts their life in some way, either good or bad. I am very thankful that my first job, and what I have learned has impacted me, and my life in a positive way. The values and skills that I’ve learned in this process will continue to affect the rest of my life, whether it comes to jobs or meeting and talking to new
Growing up all my friends had perfect jobs for teenagers. As a teenager, I spent a lot of time applying for jobs and searching for places to work because money didn’t come easy and I wanted to be in control of my own money. But I could never score a job. I applied to at least 100 jobs at least twice and I still couldn’t get an opportunity.
I was hired quickly and kept my first job for a year. During that year, I worked quite often, which had affected my school work. I didn’t make time to study and went to bed late most nights. As much as I wanted to quit, I kept working. I wanted to quit, because I feared I couldn’t keep up with school anymore. It terrified me that I would fall so behind, and never get anywhere in life. I kept faith, and I worked hard to get where I am today. I never gave up. I did not like asking for money at home, because I knew everyone was already struggling. I felt like I needed my job, so that I could make money to pay for things myself. Without work, I wouldn’t have any lunch money for school. My grandparents helped as much as they could. It's not their job though, I felt that it wasn’t fair they had to keep spending their money on me. Working has taught me great skills. I was shy before my first job. I am now more outgoing and social; I love meeting new people. I still work to this very day, and I am working hard in school. With good time management, I’m able to keep up with
We all want our first job when were in high school and to some of us it makes us feel more independent. Who wouldn’t want to stop relying on their parents for money? We all hate that moment when we want to go out with our friends but were too scared to ask our parents for money because you asked them for money couple days ago. But then again, were scared to apply for a job because some of us are scared for the interview we might get or you’re just scared to get a job. Although getting your first job can be a hard and new experience, it is a very important lesson in life of showing dependability and growing up.
I consider that a great accomplishment even though the majority of people my age have jobs and consider it easy to obtain one. My parents were never too keen on me getting a job, but I did it anyway because I felt it was time for me to take on that responsibility. It was a part-time position at a frozen yogurt shop. I recall feeling as if my heart was going to burst out of my chest during the interview, but I tried to keep my composure. It did not go terribly as I assumed it would. I came out feeling ten times more confident than I felt going into the job. Shortly after, I was told I began in a
Sophomore year began, and I became a student leader at robotics. I was the youngest leader there, most people started when they were juniors. I gained so much experience and so many valuable life skills that will help me throughout. I learned skills such as communication, and people management skills. This year was by far the most difficult in high school. I put so much time and dedication into robotics that I fell behind in school. By the end of the year I knew that I had to
A recent job that I have held was for the duration of the summer. I was a part-time employee working as summer help for Wegmans grocery store. The job included many tasks at hand where I worked in various departments throughout the store. This work experience has many similar attributes as that of the student “job.”
After high school, my first job was working as an electrician. Being very young and new to the working world I learned a lot very quickly. I was a teenager on job sites with grown men with many skills that I was able to learn from. Math is critical in the electrical industry by being able to ensure you do not overload a circuit, calculate the amperage and wattage, and how to get the correct bends on wiring conduct. Learning to read blueprints that had all of the details were critical as well. Being able to relate a small drawing to an actual build was hard to learn but one you wanted to make sure you fully understood. If not you could make mistakes by placing items where they were not supposed to be located and having to move them, causing wasted time and money. The two most important items that I learn was safety and working as a team. These both go hand in hand with each other. Safety is not just ensuring that you are safe but also looking out for the others around you. This job provided me some of the critical building blocks of my career.
I took the job since this brought me closer to my goal and these experiences helped me achieve my next step towards what I wanted in my life and where I wanted to
You always want to put your most important goals at the top of your schedule. I got a job before my junior year and it has impacted my schooling in many ways. I would work about four to five days a week and when one of those days was a school day I started to ignore my school work and focus more on being my greatest in the work environment. This did not work out for me, I started to fall behind in classes. When you take on a job, that job is to be made to work around your school schedule.
First Quarter has finished and I’m pretty proud of myself. I achieved straight A’s, though I was extremely worried I wouldn’t (“nerd problems”). My life has pretty much stayed the same besides the added activity of procrastinating finishing homework and yearbook. I plan on signing up for Power of the Pen like I did last year (which I’m very excited about). Lunch is the standard “talk with your friends time” that it was last year, just with different friends. The classes are the same as last year and are as fun as they always were. I didn’t realize, until it was mentioned, that this would be my last first quarter at RMS. I’m not sad or sentimental about it, but genuinely excited because it means progress.
It was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and place the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. In addition, when viewing what I value in the workplace, I realized that I find intellectual stimulation, security, and economic rewards to be the most important values.
Whenever i was working this summer we had someone not show up just because he didn't want to. He didn't call to tell anyone he wasn’t gonna be there and we had to close down the place i was working because someone decided not to come into work. We had another person who wouldn’t show up on time and would leave before it was closing time everyday and each day he made up excuses to leave and why he was late. If I was a boss or manager of a department and i had someone constantly doing something like this I wouldn't let my employ do that either he gets on time and stays till closing or he leaves and that is it. Everyday I would get there 15-20 minutes before i was scheduled so i can get everything cleaned from the previous worker the day before
There is no way to prepare them for that than gaining experience and responsibilities with each paycheck. Having a job can also help students gain perspective of the real world where they are treated as adults. They are taught to act professional and learn new tasks for each position. Many students get their first job while they are in high school. According to bls.gov 20.3 million youth ages 16-24 are employed by the end of july 2015.
It’s lucky for me to have parents who can support me to go to school and have a happy life. I see the miserable life of those people and I feel more than ever that I should work hard so that I’m not wasting my advantages. That’s the most important thing I learnt from this job. And it’s good to learn it before too late.
I was collecting the bus pan from the front of the restaurant when the woman called me over to her table. As soon as I approached the table she began chastising me for the preparation of her food. Her words swirled around my mind but I could not comprehend exactly what she wanted from me. How did I, a 17 year old high school student, have any authority in this situation?
