Several miles outside of Portland, Oregon, on a cool September evening a green Subaru outback drove along the highway. I was riding in the backseat, no more than ten years old. My dad and I were on our way back from visiting my Grandparents for the day. Darkness had just begun to fall across the wide expanse of the fields surrounding the city and a light mist was falling. I remember my dad driving in the front seat, his hands locked on the wheel, the wiper blades sliding across the windshield every few seconds, soft classic rock coming from the speakers behind me. There was a slow breeze of warm air coming from the vents in front of me that mixed with the smell of the air freshener that hung from the rear view mirror. I was watching the cars …show more content…
It was a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara, from the mid 2000s. One moment it was passing by us like any other car had. And in what seemed like an instant later it was swerving into us, the right corner of its bumper hitting us dead center. Later, I found out the driver had glanced down at his phone, trying to call his friend, for just as second too long. He drifted too far and swerved accidentally into the other lane. But that was later. In the moment all I knew was the sudden noise. The loud crunch of metal on metal, the sound of breaking glass and my window shattered, the screech of tire on the wet pavement, and the powerful wompf as the airbags deployed, slamming out from the dashboard. I was too shocked to make a sound, we slid off the road and onto the gravel shoulder, out tires kicking up rocks around us before we finally stopped. And then everything was quiet. The only sound was cars passing on the highway. I felt the cool glass from the window cut into my exposed face and arms. My seatbelt cut into me, the impact tightening it around my chest. Cool air rushed into through the freshly opened window making my cuts sting and I felt the evenings mist on my face. My arm was pinned below me, but it didn't feel
The racecar was not the most creative or what some would call beautifully designed. But the owner and his father worked for weeks on that little wooden block to turn it into something the ten-year-old boy could be proud to race. A previous race showed what needed to be done for a car to make it in the top five. After careful designing, sanding, painting, and graphite the car was finished.
The weight of the car pressed down on the bottom half of my body with massive force. It did not hurt simply because adrenaline pumped through me. All I could feel was the weight of the car’s hood pushing my body farther and farther into the ground. My lungs felt clamped shut and air would neither enter nor escape them. My mind was buzzing. What had just happened? In the distance, on that demonic road, I saw cars driving by completely unaware of what happened and how I felt. I tried to yell but my voice was unheard. All I could do was wait. Wait for someone to help me or wait to die.
The day started off like any average day, I took a hot shower, got dressed and got prepared for the day. It wasn’t until I sat down and started eating my bowl full of cheerios with extra sugar, that I realized what was actually happening. Today would be the day I finally bought my first car, after a year of hard work and conservative economic decisions.
I got my car right before the beginning of summer. Brand new was not an option so I opted for a shiny-black, used Jeep Liberty. It was not in meant condition, but I was just exstatic as long as it had air conditioning that might just turn my fingers blue with frostbite. I had my car for a total of four months, however, before it became an unsightly crime scene. How did my car get wrecked one might ask? It all boils down to one decision I made. One bad choice could destroy a lot of things, so don’t let people convince you into making rash decisions. That was my mistake, and I'm still paying for it.
I walked outside into the cool April morning. The air around me was a slightly stinging cold; nevertheless, I took a big deep breath of the refreshing mountain air. I walked over to my dads red and white 1979 Ford F150 pickup and started it for him. I brought it around to the front of the house, put the transmission in neutral, and set the parking brake. After hopping out of the cab, I met my dad coming out of the house, and went around the front of the truck. I hopped into the passenger seat while my dad got into the drivers seat. We fastened our seat belts and we headed off to Paonia.
Since the time of Aristotle, romantic comedies have sought to tell a story about two people, and questions whether or not they would end up together as Billy Mernit (author of Writing the Romantic Comedy)informs. They also make us question what it means to be in a relationship and tell us a little about ourselves. The romantic comedies were extremely popular with moviegoers during its Golden Age of the 1930’s as Daniel M. Kimmel (author of I’ll Have What She’s Having: Behind the Scenes of the Great Romantic Comedies) informs us. The good romantic comedies of this time were referred to as “weepies” or “three hanky pictures (Kimmel). Over time, though, the romantic comedies dwindled to the point where nowadays the romantic comedies seem to be dead (Mernit). Today, the romantic comedy is alive and well, but it goes unrecognized due to it adapting. The appearance of the romantic comedy may have changed, but the key elements have not changed. The key elements of any romantic comedy include two characters who will meet and fall in love with each other, a conflict that will tear the two of them apart, and an ending where love has changed the main characters and they will either accept or deny love such as the events of Philadelphia Story.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
A time in which I had to make a big decision that had consequences was the time I had to pick my first car. In the decision on to pick which car I had to think about these three factors gas milage, time frame, and part availability. Picking the car that met all these goals would be the deciding factor in which one I got.
I went to Disney World in the summer and it was my first time there so I was really excited. Me and my mom had the all inclusive package and the food there was amazing. We stayed for 1 week and we got to see everything. My favorite ride was Test Track where you could make your own car and then you got to go through all the stages in this simulator ride to see if your car passed. My favorite park that went to was Epcot. People have said that I am great at reading and can pronounce and read difficult words. ELA is not my favorite subject. Mostly because I do not really like ELA. I used to read a lot when I was 6 and 7 years old. Now I don’t really enjoy reading as much as I used to. I have trouble understanding which words are adjectives, nouns,
Have we ever had something that we really loved, then one day it was taken away just like that? Well, that was me with my first car, a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT. That car to me was my dream starting car. I felt so cool when I drove around as well as caught people’s attention when I drove around town.
My keys bring me lots of memories, from the time I first got my car to the places I’ve been. I can remember the first time I received my car keys, it was around Christmas time and it was much unexpected that I was receiving a car. I can remember going with my parents as they told me we were just going out for the day but really they were taking me to see my car. It was a really exciting day for me that I will always remember because it was a part of me growing up and getting some freedom. I have been many places in my car from driving my friends and I shopping to riding around with them. I was around to receive my license because I am one of the oldest in my grade due to me having a late birthday. So being the first to
As we raced through the streets, as we approached an intersection a car had speed in...BAM the wheel of my bike slammed into the rim of the front right tire. I flipped over my handlebars; my body struck the hood of the vehicle denting it. My head had shattered the windshield. The momentum of the moving car had launched me forward and airborne.Everything went black.
There are life-defining moments that will always evoke certain emotions when fragments of events filter through my mind. My appreciation for life intensified on a cool fall night late in September, as I was driving to the farm after Homecoming. Several kids from our church youth group had gathered at a home for a bonfire after the dance. While the road to home was only five miles, driving in the country has its hazards. With the air conditioner turned all the way up and music blasting, I began driving on a road that had taken me home hundreds of times.
It was just like any other morning, I woke up, ate breakfast, got dressed, did my hair and makeup and then hopped in my pickup to drive the 45-minute road from Adel to Lakeview to get school. I was on time and not in any rush, it was cold but the roads were clear so I was driving around 55 MPH. I came around a corner where there was a straight away right on the other side and in the blink of an eye everything changed. I hit black ice, all remember is my pickup started fish tailing and before I knew I had completely lost control. The pickup began to roll and due to me being careless and not putting my seat belt on I was ejected from my driver window. I remember waking up on the ground, looking up at my pickup and just thinking to myself “What just happened?” I stood up thinking nothing was wrong and immediately began searching for my cell phone which had been thrown out as well. Before I could find it a lady in a red car pulled up and she immediately called 911 which upset
Last year I got involved in a massive car accident. It was the most terrified part of life. It was the moment. I will never forget in my whole life. Before, I never realized how people really feel when a car accident happens. But,after this car accident I know what really it felt like. It was the moment. My mind was totally feared of driving. I was crushed by the hot metal and cold dirt of car. I was not feeling my arm,my body was numbed. It was felt like my lower body pressed down with monster force. All I could feel was the noise of car accident ringing in my ear.I was barely able to move my body. I was kept thinking. What my parents going to think about this? Where is my friend John? I looked through the window and saw the cars passing by
