Exploring My Mexican-American Heritage and Family

Culture is something that we all have. It illustrates who we are as people. There are many types of cultures in this world. The one culture that illustrates who I am is Mexican. I was raised in which some would call a typical Mexican family. In my family are my mom, stepdad, and siblings but my real dad is German and African American, which I still see whenever I want which is a lot. It's common that my parents have extended family over like cousins, grandparents etc. and nobody in my family is quiet and I mean nobody. Everytime I walk in my house it's loud, festive as if we were having a party or a fiesta. A lot of my family were born in both Mexico and America. My mom was born in America like both my sister, brother and as well as my real father, but my stepdad was born in Mexico. My stepdad was born and raised in Mexico and he didn’t move to the United States until he was twelve. My mom is the third oldest out of five siblings and my stepdad is the fourth oldest out of seven siblings. My mom lived in decent conditions when she was my age but my stepdad didn't live in similar conditions as my mom. I love the food, the people and our continued traditions, so I basically love every single thing about it. When I was younger I never new what culture meant or what it was. I thought it was just a word, but now I know the meaning of culture which is “A way of life, behaviors, beliefs and values”. Behaviors are the way people act toward and about their culture. Beliefs are your own opinions and what you want to believe in and what you don't want to believe in. And than we have Values of culture in which are really everything above.
