“Time to go to Lake Tahoe!” I exclaimed as my parents and my grandpa announced that it was time to go. After three years of waiting, it was finally time to go to lake tahoe. We couldn’t go there the past three summers because we had to visit other family. However, now it was finally time to visit my great uncle in Tahoe! I was most excited about going on a motor boat for the first time in my life. My great uncle, whose name is Bob, promised that we could all go on a motor boat when we got there. My dad wasn’t very excited though. He said the last time he went on a motor boat with Bob they crashed and my dad fractured his arm. “Time to go!” yelled my mom, everybody got in the car and we started heading out. The drive was long and boring just like all drives are, in my opinion. …show more content…
After about an hour and a half of constant boredom, I dozed off.
“Wake up everybody we’re here!” My Dad yelled in an extremely loud and annoying voice. With a jerk everybody had woken up. “It’s only been an hour and a half.” My mom mumbled. “I know I’m just kidding, we’re not even halfway there!” “Oh my gosh, why did you do that?!” my mom screamed at him. “I don’t know because I was bored.” “Dad, what the heck was that for!” I asked. I was really bummed that he did that because I actually had fallen asleep. A few hours later we finally got to Tahoe! “Hello there everybody!” My uncle shouted. “Hey Bob how are you?” “Doing fine, doing fine. Hey, let’s go inside and eat something. You guys must be starving.” “Oh no, we’re not very
hungry.” “Oh no, I insist!” “Okay then, Thank you very much for having us at your cabin!” “My pleasure!” So we went inside and ate some sandwiches. “Hey are we going to go on the motor boat today!” I asked in an anticipating tone. This was the thing I was most looking forward to on the whole trip. “We sure are buddy. Let us talk a little bit though before we head out.” “Okay, sounds good!” While the adults talked I went outside for a little while with my grandpa. We walked for about a mile and started heading back when a huge grey husky came out of a bush and started barking at us. It was a huge dog about my height at the time. I was about eight. We started slowly backing up and eventually it walked away. When we got back our family was ready to go. So we all got in my uncles truck, which had a special board that the boat could go on while we were driving. When we got to the Lake, we started getting the boat ready. I was so excited. I can’t remember a time before that I was this excited for going on something, or for that matter I couldn’t remember the last time I was this excited to do anything. Finally, after what felt like hours we were ready to go. We all got on the boat and started going. I felt mesmerised by the boat’s speed. I looked down into the lake. I could see the bottom of the Lake it looked beautiful. I even saw a few fish swimming. “Watch Out! We’re gonna crash!” My dad exclaimed as a boulder came close to us. CRASH! We had rammed into the boulder head on and our boat had a huge hole in it. “Leak! My uncle yelled. Somehow we all managed to drag the boat out of the water, since we were very close to the land anyways. Soon help came and the people had a special boat tower that towed our boat to the shoreline. After an hour of waiting for our uncle to sort things out we could finally go home. The rest of our trip was wonderful but as our dad reminded us that’s Bob’s second crash in a row. THE END
Zig-zag, back and forth, down, down, down, Jonathon, Dad, and I went into a mysterious new world. Now that I have gone into this hot, dry canyon surrounded by monstrous hoodoos, I have seen what it is really like to leave the small town of Seymour, and emerge into the greatness of this world. I have now seen several other National Parks on one of the most renowned places on earth for mysterious creations, the Colorado Plateau. Of all the beautiful places on it, even the Grand Canyon, I have found my favorite one. Bryce Canyon National Park. I thought it was amazing, because it was the most diverse to anything I have ever seen before. We hiked down into it and I felt like I was surrounded by skyscrapers. We trekked around a little, but we didn’t
The Grand Canyon, it’s truly is grand. The animals, the plant life, and the canyon’s history is something my father and I have been interested in for a long time. My dad, Erik, shows me plant specimens and fossils of animals i’ve never seen before. He once told me there was a type of vulture that are so close to extinction there are only 20 left alive in the world. We visited Arizona to see the Grand Canyon once dad got enough money to go on a roadtrip. I’m so excited to see my friends there, too. I brought so much snacks, maybe too much, and my backpack is kind of heavy for the hiking trip, but I’ll live through it.
“Where are you from?” The question for me, has always been conflicting. You would ask my mom and dad the question and they would not hesitate for a second before letting “Beledweyne,” or “Somalia.” fall from their mouths. All my other siblings who were born in America would probably answer the question with “Mankato,” or “Eagle Lake,” maybe even “Minnesota.” and not put any thought into it. I however have put plenty of thought into in. Maybe too much thought.
Aspen, Colorado, the town I grew up in. The town where I first learned to speak, swim and do many other things. Life in Aspen is perfect. Skiing on the powdered slopes during the winter, hiking grueling mountains during the summer and exploring it’s majestic beauty any season. Aspen’s captivating beauty is also filled with fond memories everywhere that take me back to my childhood: seeing mom bears desperately reaching for the tart crabapples to feed their young, playing volleyball with my brother on the scorching sand, and getting frustrated because I could never hit the ball with enough force to make it over the net, watching the crystallized ice charging to take over the last bit of green left. I had it, the mountains, the snow, the house, I had it all. Although in the summer of 2012 everything changed.
Several years ago I was employed as a biologist by the National Park Service. This tour-of-duty was located in Del Rio, Texas, which is located in the south-central portion of the state along the Rio Grande River. During my six month tour, I was responsible for implementing an Aquatic Invasive Species action plan to assess if Zebra or Quagga Mussels had entered the Lake Amistad watershed.
When I was six years old, I moved from Ottawa, Ontario to Edson, Alberta, then later to Sylvan lake, Alberta. Even though I was young when I moved to Sylvan lake, I remember the area, the house, and the people perfectly. I was around eight years old when I moved from Edson to Sylvan Lake. We moved from there because it wasn’t a good area for children to grow up. Edson was full of people who did drugs, sold drugs, and wanted drugs. Edson was filled with people who were secretly in groups of bad people who did bad things. My mother didn’t want my brother and I to grow up in that environment, hence why we moved to Sylvan Lake.
When I was a small child, I would always play by the docks on my grandparent's lake. I vividly recall dangling my feet off the docks and having the seaweed softly tickle my toes. Seeing my reflection is the cool dark water made me feel light and giddy, often resulting in me diving head first into the murky lake. It's been several months since I've last been there. My grandfather recently had some heart issues and has been resting in the neighboring hospital, seeing as though the lake house is far out of town. I've offered to help them maintain the house until grandpa recovered, my grandmother was exceedingly grateful. So that brings me here typing this story for whoever willing to read it. Looking out of the sliding glass door that borders
Whenever I think about my family's trip to the Grand Canyon over the summer, I always wonder what it would have been like if I had not been too afraid to hike down the rim. When planning our annual vacation, my family decided that we would fly into Denver, Colorado, and slowly make our way to Las Vegas. The one stop along the way that I was looking forwards to the least was the Grand Canyon: I am more afraid of heights than anything else. Although I felt mentally prepared upon our arrival, I quickly decided that the Grand Canyon wasn't for me after a quick glance at the sheer, unprotected 3,000 foot drop.
No place in my fifth-teen years have compared to it. The wonderful sound of the rippling water that is reflecting sunlight into my eyes on a warm day can’t be beat. Sitting on the deck balcony that could overlook the lake, the cool breeze could always enhance my mood. I could see and hear anything from here like the subtle buzz of the jet ski down in the lake. The jet ski created ripples of water behind it which created a v-shape. Branson, MO is a unique and meaningful place to me and my entire family.
I go to the lake with my friends and family. I go with the Webbers and my family. The lake I go to is Cold Water.
A week before my birthday I asked my mom if we can go to Circus Circus and she said yes. I was turning seven years old. On December 28,2009 we took a road trip to Las Vegas,Nevada. My mom rented a hotel for 3 days right next to Circus Circus. We chilled at the hotel and visited places but on the 30th of December at 9:30 we went to Circus Circus.
him. We didn’t know what it meant, but my dad would always wake up in
The summer of my junior, my friend Brandon went to Big Bear. He was there for a week and said “I got something for you”. He refused to tell me what it was no matter how much I insisted. My first thought was that he was going to be the goofball that he is and say he brought me snow. When he finally got back and we both entered our summer class he showed me. In slow motion I could see what he had in his backpack. It was a coca cola bottle, but as I turned it I realized that it had my name on it. I have always told him that merchandise with names on it usually never have my name. It was such a simple gift yet so thoughtful. It meant a lot to me because something so small made me smile. It meaningful because it was a surprise but not one I expected
I took my spot in the crammed back seat, and I couldn't believe what had happened in that endless night. As we drove away, I hoped that we would never return to that dreadful place again. Before the vacation was even over, the Hawke family vacation goal was a success. We managed to spend only $25, and we were to start home the next day. To my dad this was a fun filled vacation, but to the rest of us, it was the most dreadful time we had ever had. Still crammed between my brother and sister, I couldn't stop thinking of our awful experience. I could only hope that our final destination would better than the previous encounter.
This was new. I wasn't really sure what to make of it. My father entered my room and told me that I was not allowed to leave my room for the rest of that night and all of the next day. He did not seem to be very amused when I pointed out that I wo...
