On September 4th, 2016, my brother Josh and I went to a large, beautiful green park to try out some frisbee golf. The only type of golf I have played before is regular golf that includes a club and a small, white, round ball. Josh had recently picked up frisbee golf with his friends back home in Iowa and decided to bring the frisbees with him. He wanted to play in an area that had the rocky mountains as the background because he thought that they were breathtaking and peaceful for a quick game. He decided that on a warm, sunny day he would teach his sister how to play. Originally, when he brought up the idea of playing I thought it would be stupid. In my mind, I was thinking, what is the point of flinging a disc in the air hoping it would hit …show more content…
His wife, daughter, and my mom decided to go shopping for a good part of the day and my dad was at work so it was the perfect time to squeeze in a game or two. When we decided to leave to this nice park that we found from searching around on the internet, I noticed that my brother grabbed a black duffle bag. When I proceeded to ask him what was in the bag, he zipped it open to show me. Inside was an assortment of frisbees; two driver frisbees, a wedge frisbee, and a putter frisbee. When I saw these, I was very confused. I thought a normal frisbee would be used to play, but I guess there are special frisbees that can be bought in any sporting store for the game. Each frisbee is a different size and weight, which can create more distance between the throws. Josh explained each frisbee as a different type of club for each hit, the driver frisbee can be thrown the farthest out of the three, the ones he had were red and white and could go anywhere between 175 to 200 yards. Then there is the wedge frisbee that is used to get the frisbee close to the hole marker depending if the par is longer, his frisbee was blue and could travel between 100 to 125 yards. Finally, there is the putting frisbee that is used to hit the chained hole marker at a closer range, it was orange and could travel between 50 to 75 yards. When using each frisbee it is allowed to pick up the frisbee and switch them out …show more content…
When he saw that I was struggling with throwing the disc, he paused and watched my technique. He saw that I was not flicking my wrist and was instead forcing my wrist to twitch and holding on too long. The advice he gave me at this point was to act like I was going to strum a guitar and to let it flow naturally. I listened to that advice and when we got to the back nine of the little course I was feeling more comfortable with my strategy. The only issue with the back nine of the frisbee course was that there was a lake on the side of a hole and a couple rough patches in other areas. It definitely was for a more challenging game but it was still fun. My brother was very patient and my throwing was getting better. It even got to the point where I was beating my brother by a couple points but that didn’t last long because I think he was letting me win. Once we were at the end of game we realized that we had walked a little over a mile which is exciting because it didn’t even feel like we did as much walking and it proved to us both that it’s a great form of
The agency I chose to do is the Hillandale golf course, which is located in Durham North Carolina. The reason why I chose to do my project on Hillandale golf course because since the beginning of the semester I have been traveling over to the golf course twice a week for a class learning the rules and the way the game of golf is played. Hillandale golf course is named the “Granddaddy golf course of Durham/ Research Triangle golf”. Hillandale was donated to the Durham area back in 1911 through the philanthropic interests of long-time Durham resident John Sprunt Hill. Donald Ross and Perry Maxwell originally designed the course. Donald Ross had designed the first 9 holes and Perry Maxwell came up with the last 9 holes. Since 1960 over 1.7 million rounds of golf have been played that being an average of 45,000 yearly. This public golf course provides a challenge from each level of players in the game of golf. In 1960, the Hillandale Golf Course was moved to its current location in Durham and was redesigned by George Cobb, who is also the designer of the Surf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Contrary to what most think, an “Arnold Palmer” is not just a blend of tea and lemonade. One day, all might be able to swing a golf club like Arnold Palmer. Golf has been around since the thirteenth century and was introduced by the Scottish and Dutch. The main goal of golf is to reach the hole in the fewest amount of shots possible. One main difference between golf and many other sports is the lower the score the better. Regardless of the fact that the game was once banned, golf is now enjoyed by many (“The History of Golf”). Despite the images in common golf commercials, the golf swing is endlessly complicated.
There are many different brands of Frisbee due to the high demand for this fun toy or sporting item. This product is usually plastic, generally 20 to 25 centimeters with a lip used to grab and through the
I have always been a big fan of the game of Golf, I have always loved both watching and playing it. I always borrow my dad’s golf clubs whenever I go out on the course, on this particular occasion I had happened to accidentally break one of his clubs. I was afraid to my teeth as to what my dad was going to say, as these were his favourite clubs. I decided to hide this fact from my dad, until I could find a definitive solution to either replace or fix the club. I had a tough time sleeping at night, just thinking about the potential consequences I might have to face. In the morning I conjured up the strength to tell my father the truth and accept a potential penalty to my actions. To my surprise, my dad was more ecstatic than angry. He explained to me that he is proud that I was honest and truthful to him, he also commended me from battling my fear to muster up the courage to do the right thing. In this scenario, fear worked as a positive thing when thinking about potential outcomes in the future. I was successful in preserving my “dignity”, while being oppressed by my fear of continuing to hide the truth. One must strive to balance their respective fears with their foresight of the future, in order to truly be successful in their

When I started golfing, it wasn’t serious at all, it was just something to go and have a great time with. My dad and I would go out on the course and spend the day out there, but it wasn’t just playing golf: we would eat snacks that we bought from the store, we would obviously play
I guess it started when I was about twelve years old. My father took me to this place called a golf course. I did not know why or what we were here for, but I was interested in finding out. We entered a building called a clubhouse; then, he paid for a bucket of practice balls. I followed him to the driving range. Once we got there, he got a metal stick from his golf bag and gave it to me. I grabbed the stick, and he showed me how to hold it. Then, he told me to swing it. I swung it back and forth as careless as I could. He then said, "Son, you have one of the nicest golf swings I have ever seen." I did not even know what I was doing with that stick, but I guess my dad saw something I didn't. My father then decided that he was ready to teach me how to use the three clubs of golf: a putter, iron, and wood. He handed me the putter, and we went to the green. He explained to me that a putter is used on a green to get the ball into the hole. I took a few smooth swings back and forth to get a feel for a putter. He said, "Hit this ball until it goes into the hole." I was impressed with myself because it only took me six hits to get it in the hole. He laid twenty balls on the green, and he told me to hit every ball in with one shot. It took me about three hours, but I accomplished what my dad told me. He thought I was ready to try the next club, so we headed to the next location. We went out onto the fairway, and he handed me an iron. He laid out some more balls on the ground and told me to hit them towards the flag on the green. The first ball I hit did not even get close to the green. The rest of the balls I hit went either over or on the front of the green, but I never let another one fall short. My dad said, "Keep practicing until you hit all of the balls on the green." I kept practicing until all of the balls were laid up around the flag.

A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way
When I started playing golf around age twelve, I was uncertain about the technicalities of the game or any of the rules that are involved. It took a long time for me to understand the nuances of golf because of the challenges it presents. It started with learning about the golf swing and the fundamentals. Sports are usually reactionary, but golf is very different because the ball is stationary, so a good shot requires proper body movements to ensure consistency. In fact, golf instructor Roberto Borgatti describes the swing as “Much more like dancing…that really involves your entire body in a coordinated effort, combining grace and power” (5). I did not think about it like that when I first started playing golf, but it makes a lot more sense now that I understand the swing. I started to notice that the swing is like a pendulum, where a constant back and forward motion leads to the best result that has a nice tempo, or rhythm. I learned that having this pendulum motion, commonly referred to as a swing plane, is pertinent to consistent play. It is about repetition and muscle memory in order to reduce too ...
I have been playing softball since the age of six. From the time I could walk, my dad had me out in our yard teaching me how to swing a bat and throw a ball. Growing up, softball is all I have known. Both of my parents played softball and baseball growing up and in college. They both have taught me everything they know about the sport. Softball has taught me more than the physical aspect of the game. In softball a player can strike out seven out of ten times and still be considered a good hitter. Everyone has rough days, but I have realized that I just need to come back the next day and work harder. My parents have showed me that working hard at it will help me succeed. Whenever I have a bad game, instead of getting down, I take it as motivation to try harder the next time.
Softball was my main sport, but I did everything else until it was time to play softball. I fell in love with softball at an early age. I would play every summer or I was asked to play which helped me travel all over the place and meet new friends. Each year I played my love for the sport grew more and more. I played on multiple teams throughout the summer. Playing with one of my teams I gained the advantage to visit Santé Fe, New Mexico two years in a row to play softball. When I reached 8th grade I was excited about playing for the high school softball team until I figured out how it really was. Although I was not happy about having to sit on the bench, but I understood that I had to earn the privilege to play, and that the upperclassman were more seasoned.
It just always seemed like something that I had to do. Ever since I was ten years old I’ve been playing, practicing, and talking about golf. I always have had a love for the game, but I never really thought about how stressful and painful it made my life. Even at ten I thought my future had already been planned for me. I was already thinking of life as a professional golfer. I was certain that I would go play golf for a big college, and instant fame would soon follow. It wasn’t until the last couple of years that life has changed for me.
Before you hear about Ultimate Frisbee, you should first know the history of the Frisbee. The Frisbie Pie Company sold their pies all over the East Coast, and it just happened that the pie tins were easy to throw around. At Yale, students began to make up games to play with the tins, and started to call them “Frisbees”. The name stuck and tossing the tins around became popular at many East Coast colleges. Several years later, an inventor decided to recreate the Frisbee tin. He wanted to make it out of plastic, which was one of the new post-war materials. He shaped his new disk like a U.F.O., complete with little windows. This was the first real Frisbee, and since then, the design hasn’t changed much.
