William Marston developed his DISC model through his book Emotions of Normal People. William Marston’s book does not give a behavioral assessment instrument for determining one’s behavioral style. Dr. Tony Alesandra develops such an instrument for one to use, assisting individuals, and teams into understanding how these behavioral styles may adapt to promote effective communication. The developing of a professional development plan (PDP) ensures that individuals of a learning team hold a tool for assessing the individual member’s skills, strengths, areas of improvement, and the resources necessary to help these individuals reach their goals. The PDP ensures that a learning team can work together efficiently, and assist the leader in leading the team. Professional Development Plan Jerad Davies is the leader of Learning Team C for Organizational Leadership. Lena Moore, Michael Paulley, Nicole Presser, and Paul Frisbee also exist as members of Learning Team C. All members of Learning Team C have taken a DISC behavioral assessment. The core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis were seen in several of this weeks required readings, appearing in all or multiple sources. Their definitions varied in each reading, all providing more clarification upon the previous. The first term, applied, refers to the "commitment to affecting improvements" in the field. Psychology consists of countless different components that help describe various aspects of individuals both mentally and physically. Though Psychology is used for multiple different areas, one of the most common areas to observe in this field is behaviors. Behaviors range from person to person and can be altered by different situations and variables. The point when behaviors can become of interest is when an individual’s actions and behavior are extreme or they are inconsistent with the appropriate behavior in certain circumstances. I am drawn to the field of applied behavior analysis as it is a way of understanding that allows me to address the needs of my clients and determine how to help them beyond just the label of a diagnosis. Through using applied behavior analysis effectively the origin and meaning of a behavior can be highlighted. When a behavior occurs a detailed report is created to describe the situation prior, what the behavior was and the consequences of that behavior. Furthermore behaviors within some cases can be used as a form of communication when words are not available. For this reason the study of behavior allows me to help my clients and those around me in a way that is more definite and lasting.
A particular approach to the idea of leadership style is provided by ROBERT R. Blake and JANE S. Mouton. Blake and mouton managerial grid will be showed in the figure below reflect a theme that is common in many approach to leadership. That theme is that effective leadership requires attention to both task and people. We saw the theme in the Ohio state leader behavior dimensions of initiating structure and considerations. Likert also develops this theme in his theme research when he discusses job centered and employees centered supervision.
