With carefully carved wood, metal, and horsehair, there is an instrument that can play almost every tune that exists, the violin. When I started playing the violin five years ago, my life significantly changed. I found a new passion. I enjoy playing the violin because it helps me in many ways. Practicing the violin relaxes my body, sharpens my brain, and brightens my day.
Playing the violin relaxes my body. From the moment I pick my instrument up, I forget about all my homework and tests. I separate my mind from reality and move to a dream world. I have been working on a piece called Canon in D by Pachelbel. With such a rhythmical piece, I notice my body swaying in accordance to the phrasing. When the notes go up, I stand on my toes, and when they go down, I bend my knees. After memorizing a piece, I sometimes close my eyes to maximize the effects of the sound of the violin. After the time in my dream world is over, I clean my violin and put it in its case, happy

knowing that I will play it once more. Playing the violin helps me focus. Memorizing music is not only for a soloist in a concert, but also helps focus the brain. Whenever I have a hard time concentrating, I pick up my violin and memorize a chunk of music. Recently I have been memorizing Canon in D. After playing a few measures of notes with sheet music, I look away and try to play it by memory. My brain concentrates on the notes, the rhythm, and the dynamics. As I do this, all my stress fades away; my brain refreshes itself. Then, I continue to work, fresh and focused. Playing the violin brightens my day.
At times when I am bored, I often pick up the fiddle, search for an interesting movie theme, and try to play it by ear. For example, I once searched for the theme of The Hobbit. It took me about a minute to find the first note, but after that, the rest was easy to find. After completing the tune by ear, I got a sense of accomplishment and joy that is inexpressible through words. Also, competing in a regional and state levels is thrilling. I am currently practicing a movement called “Allegro” by Joseph-Hector Fiocco. I enjoy playing the presence of judges because their feedback helps me become a better musician, but more importantly, I receive a medal!
The violin helps me relax, focus, and be happy. Playing the violin is like walking through a colorful forest filled with singing birds, tall trees, and mysterious adventures. My violin has been there for me through good times and bad times, providing me with a sense of comfort. Playing the violin is my greatest
passion.
For almost 8 years of my life, playing the cello has influenced my life in so many extraordinary ways. Choosing the cello over any instrument, was probably one of the best decisions I will have ever made, in the 5th grade. The violin was way too high, the viola was way too small, while the upright bass was way too big. I knew at that very moment that the cello was the instrument that I wanted to play. The warmth of the instruments tone, and the powerful sound that came out of the f-holes drew me in so quickly.
In string orchestras there are four instruments used: the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Most high schools contain this type of orchestra; however there are many other instruments that can be added to create a symphonic orchestra. From the string instruments the best is actually the most undervalued instrument. The “Middle Child” of the family of strings. The one that everyone should want to play is obviously the viola. The violin, cello, and bass are all wrong. Each one has their own handicap that prevents them from being the best.
Nothing lasts forever. Everything, whether good or bad has to come to an end. But people do say that sounds and voices do not die. Melodies we hear in our life lives on for generations and ever after. No matter who we are or wherever we come from; in whichever situation we were in, at some point of our lives, we have come across certain melodies that still live in our heart. And I am no different from others. There are certain musical pieces that have not only influenced my life, but have made a significant impact to change me for the better.
Learning to play an instrument benefits the brain in numerous ways, similarly to physical activity, and it is a significantly safer option. Additionally, except in extreme cases of paralysis, everyone possesses the capability to learn to play an instrument, whether it is something that comes easily to them or not. While some instruments and lessons can be pricy, individuals can choose an instrument to fit their price range and look for good deals online. Also, the lessons will be provided by the school so individuals will not have to pay that expense. Finally, one of the main reasons that we should have every middle school student learn to play an instrument is to increase their neuroplasticity, so they can continue to learn and acquire new skills and information. Whether you are a dancer or football player, handicapped or well equipped, whether you live in a multi-million dollar home or an old shack on the outskirts of town, if you are in middle school, learning to play an instrument is for
I began taking violin lessons at the age of four and have since shared my music with others in many ways. I have been in the community orchestra at Jacksonville University and am in the first violin section of the University of North Florida's string ensemble. When I performed on violin for 4-H's Share the Fun event, I placed first at the county and district levels and second at the state level, and was later asked to play at the 4-H Foundation Dinner and two Volunteer Recognition Dinners. The most unusual playing job I have had was when I played for a sale at Rhode's Furniture!
I grew up in Yazoo City the middle out of nine children, and like the rest of my siblings I was almost entirely homeschooled. Music was possibly the most important subject, which incidentally happened to be the only one my mother didn’t teach. While my parents never actually said it, we all knew that it was a given that we would be taking piano lessons from around fourth grade to graduation. But when I was little I had zero interest in piano. I –for no reasons I can remember anymore- was very draw to violin and tried my hardest –without actually coming out and asking- to get my parents to let me take violin. As a six year-old my idea of “subtle hinting” was cutting out a violin shape from cardboard, and using a pencil as a bow to show my mom how well I “played”. In the end when I turned eight my
The obstacle I had to confront a problem my freshman year in high school. I entered into orchestra class to learn the basics of playing violin. I use to play before, but I forgot how it was played. Our teacher gave us a book to read called the “The Inner Game of Tennis.” Told us to look through it and find the deeper mean towards the book. I found it interesting that he gave us a book of tennis theme. The thing we should focus on is the position of our finger patterns and note names.
Music is that one friend that will always be there and will never judge us. It changes and has a huge impact on lives tremendously. There will always be that one song that can make a person get up and go. Sometimes, when we are sick it helps to take away some of the sorrow, pain, and it comforts us the best way it can. (White)
The following Christmas half way through my fifth grade year, I received my first string instrument. Immediately I dropped the clarinet and fell in love with that cheap, 45 dollar, first act guitar. Everywhere I went, it followed. I was 11 at the time and that 45 dollar guitar made me feel like the hotshot of the town. Music made me happy.
Ever since I was a small child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the
I am majoring in violin performance and music has been my passion, life and soul for the last fourteen years. Everything for a year had been leading up to this point and here I was in the middle of the happiest place on earth in tears because my friends had abandoned me in the middle of Disney on the senior trip.
These musical experiences can lead to an abundance of other positive feelings within individuals. She expresses how music can affect and increase peoples’ awareness of feelings (83). Pellegrino states in her journal, “She [Dolloff] describes feelings of ‘utter joy’ while music-making, observing that ‘music and music making [are] ripe, with emotions and emotional potential’” (Pellegrino, 83). In the same way, music can affect our moods, “We all know how greatly music affects our feelings and energy levels! Without even thinking about it, we use music to create desired moods-- to make us happy, to enjoy movement and dance, to energize, to bring back powerful memories, to help us relax and focus” (Brewer, 1). These feelings are often common within students, or other individuals, that participate in music programs. Music programs can introduce music with concepts that trigger frequent emotional feelings in those who engage in these
Playing a musical instrument as a hobby, gives an immense sense of achievement and true satisfaction, in that one can never feel like playing difficult songs or playing it flawlessly. Learning to play any musical instrument, benefits an individual in all aspects of life, whether it 's academically, socially, physically, or emotionally. Instruments that were created to make musical sounds are categorized into five main groups; strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboards. Becoming a musician will also open up so many opportunities that are undeniably gratifying.
