As my dad, zach devries, braden hansen, his dad, and I are driving through North Dakota all of the sudden our pickup loses all speed and momentum and we urgently slow down. we are only going 47 with the truck floored. We pulled into the dealership after driving all night. We walked across the street to eat while we were waiting for the dealership to open. When it opened we unhooked the trailer full of snowmobiles and pulled into the dealership to have them fix the pickup. They replaced the clogged up filter and a few other parts. As we drove into wyoming close to the montana border We drove about an hour and a half up the mountain. We took many pictures of the beautiful scenery from a very high elevation You almost feel like you can see the whole state. When you finally get to the lodge you look around and all you see is mountains and pine trees. We were a few hours later then we wanted to be so we flew to get our stuff on and took of on our snowmobiles. On the third day on our way out we found and open meadow with around 5 feet of snow and a few trees surrounding it. I saw a jump that looked pretty fun. After i landed i look in front of me and a tree just popped out of nowhere. I hit the brakes urgently and as hard as i could. I …show more content…
later we found a huge Avalanche shoot. we did not know that it was an avalanche shoot at that point. as I got around halfway up of the avalanche shoot I realize that I had picked a pretty bad route to go up the mountain. I turned around and got on the high side of the snowmobile so that I cannot roll it. apparently I did not get high enough because I ended up toppling over the other end of the snowmobile. luckily the snowmobile did not roll much. I got back on and rode down as in my mind I was still shaking. That night we were back in the lodge eating we saw Cody,me and Zach told him happy
It took about an hour to climb to the top of the mountain because the higher we got, the steeper it was and the more challenging it got to climb because of the loose gravel and rocks. Once we reached the top of the mountain we sat down on the floor to eat some hot Cheetos and drink some of our Gatorade. After catching our breath, we began to take pictures and we saw a skunk on the opposite side of the mountain away from the park. We had never seen a skunk before so we were eager to take a picture with it. As we began our journey down towards the skunk, there was a huge rock on the edge of the mountain that I wanted to stand on and take a picture so that I could capture the beautiful scenery in the background. Smiley wanted to take the same picture as well but when he stood on the rock, it tilted over and rolled down the mountain along with my brother. He was holding the lantern when he fell so I no longer had any light. The only light source available was the screen on my phone and the flash on the camera. The first thing I did was take a picture of the bottom of the mountain to see where my brother was at. To his luck, he only suffered a broken leg. So he wouldn’t think about the pain,
The next morning we decided to go back to the Grand Canyon to see it in the morning. We drove in and stopped at multiple viewing points that morning and got many more pictures. So when we stopped at some points my brother was climbing around and my mom was freaking out because it was icy and snowy and she was scared he was gonna fall. We also didn't spend a whole lot of time there because it was also only in the 20s that morning.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
I was dropped off at the top, I would meet me dad at the parking lot at the bottom. As I started skiing, I decided to go far left, where there was few tracks. I was instantly met by deep snow and a very steep chute. I dropped into the chute, but
It was a cold and snowy day in December and I just got my snowmobile license a few weeks earlier, and I was looking forward to my first time driving on the trails. “ Dinnng DINNNNG” rang, the alarm clock as I hit snooze slowly getting up I thought in my head that today was going to be a good day because it was going to be my first time driving on the snowy trails. I slowly walked downstairs noticing that everyone else was already up and getting ready so I had to rush and gear up to go out on the trails. I quickly hopped into my snow pants, put on my black and blue boots, and the put on my bright, neon yellow jacket. I started heading outside and on my way, I grabbed my shiny white helmet and the keys to one of the snowmobiles.
When we reached the top of Stein's, I looked down and it was steep. We thought about waiting for my dad and sister. We waited for about ten minutes and no sign of my dad. Oh no! The worst part was that there was barely anybody on the this trail.
We were light enough to be able to crawl on all fours without breaking through the snow too much. Every now and then a hand or knee would break through and we would fall face first into the snow. Getting back out of that hole was hard to do but really funny to watch. Having finally made it to the back, we saw a sight which had us dying in laughter. My dad had jumped from the roof into the snow and was now in it waist deep: stuck.
We ran rapidly assuming and thinking the worst possible outcome. When we got to the wooded area would could hear the crunch of the dead leaves and twigs as we ran and still in shock, I took the wrong path which was the longest to reach my father. When we arrive, my father was white as can be. We called for an ATV to come to pick my father up and take him back to the lake house. While we all waited, we were trying to keep my father calm and not letting him pass out from shock.
I almost fell off a cliff on the side of a mountain. I was in Pitkin, Colorado, on a camping trip during the summer of 2009. The trees were green, the air was fresh so were the lakes, rivers, and ponds were stocked with fish and wildlife was everywhere. Usually, on these camping trips, I would be accompanied by a large number of people. However, this time, it was just my parents, my three brothers, and my two sisters. I was almost 12 years old at the time and having three older brothers made me very competitive. Naturally, when my family decided to climb one of the mountain’s which were around us, I wanted to be the first one to reach its peak.
My father parked the car, we all bundled up, and then we climbed out of the car. There was a lovely gift shop next to the congratulator Pike’s Peak sign. My family and I separated as we searched for souvenirs. After finding a shirt, keychain, or pocket knife we started off on a scavenger hunt to piece together the family. My mother was located in the bathroom, she had an overactive bladder and this trip, thankfully, was not too long for her. My sister was examining the gemstones found in the nearby mines. It took a decent amount of time before we found my brother and my father. However, when we found them it made sense why it took so long. The elevation was not being friendly with my brother and stole the majority of his oxygen. We hurriedly purchased the overpriced souvenirs and decided to head back down. Exiting the building we caught glimpse of the breathless view. My mother noticed that it was in alignment with the Pike’s Peak sign and decided that we should huddle together quickly for a photo. We had a stranger take the picture and we headed down the mountain. After careful review, we decided that it was the best photo that we have ever taken together; I still hold pride in it.
I saw all the green trees that had little piles of snow falling from branch to branch. We were at the couloir (rough terrain close to the peek); ready to go. I put in my earbuds and looked at my cousin. She put her thumb up and said, " 1...2....3... Go.
