Monday October Thirtieth at three forty in the afternoon, I scrambled to get ready for work. I grabbed my work clothes out of the dryer and threw them onto my body as quick as I can. At almost three fifty, my mother bursted through my door holding a phone to her ear and asked me “Have you had anything stolen from a locker at school or your car recently?” I answer “Yeah, I had four dollars stolen from my wallet at school, but I got the money back. Why?” Directly after I reply, she tells the person on the phone what I said and walks away. Curious about why she asked that, I quickly went out to the kitchen to find out what was going on. While she talked to someone on the phone she writes on a piece of paper “Property of yours was found in a stolen car.” I read that and immediately my heart began beating faster. I was thinking to myself what had happened, and where was I involved in the stolen car. I looked at the clock, and it was three …show more content…
The jeep and motorcycle I have been dreaming about for last year or so would never become a reality. As I thought about this, my heart sunk. If I am wrongfully arrested and thrown into the slammer I thought to myself “I might never see my friends again.” As I thought this statement in my head my heart beat was so fast it felt as if it was about to explode. I knew that I was starting to panic, and needed to calm down. I began taking deep breaths and my heart beat just a little slower. As I calmed down, I finished stocking all of the Monster energy drinks and began working on Rockstar as Staci comes through the door and says to me “Can you come help a guest with her ice?” I respond “Of course, I will be right out.” As I load about a hundred pounds of ice into her car, we begin talking. After having a very brief conversation with the lady, I begin to forget about the stolen car for a
When an offender is sentenced to imprisonment, post sentencing considerations must be made based on an evaluation of the individual and this will determine the manner in which the prison sentence is served. Post sentencing considerations include security classifications, parole and continued detention orders. These offer different levels of incapacity, accessibility of rehabilitation programs and incentives for good behaviour, and are implicated in order to achieve justice through upholding the rights of the victim, the offender and the wider community.
Today was another interesting day. My friends and I went to our traditional tree to look out, yet another day, for kidnappers. To my surprise, I found some! It was up to me to alert the neighbor kids so that they could capture the man before our parents returned home. These foreign men were always trying to come over and steal us, most of the time we were able to group together to fight them off.
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
When I was 8 my dad went to prison. He had a feeling his time was coming and spent as much time with me as he could before he was taken away. He bought me a silver box chain necklace with a cross before he left and I still keep it hanging from the wall.
Statement of Intention I am writing an opinionated column piece about the prison system and the publics culture towards prisoners. I am writing to persuade the reader/s that there needs to be culture shift in the way prisoners are viewed and treated. I will do this by using persuasive language, examples/facts and emotive language. Twenty three hours in a cell, cramped living spaces, often treated unjustly and yet everyone wonders why re-offending rates all around the world are increasing each year, along with the dangerous criminals comfortably roaming the streets.
Every child deserves a second chance, don’t they? These opinions could be swayed one way or another, depending on perspective. The kind of actions these children have committed have been present for generations and more to come. Innocent people have been harmed, killed ,and even slaughtered due to the underaged, innocent, and immature children. They have been given life in prison without parole and even the death penalty. Many would consider this a violation of the 8th amendment because of the unusual punishment. There are many others who believe the punishments aren't harsh enough. While I can see that a child doesn't know what it's doing, there is still reason to punish him just like we would for not brushing their
In the simplest terms, prisons exist for punishment, deterrence, and reform. Many forget that nearly all prisoners will return to society. Prisons should give inmates the right opportunities to turn their lives around. Through fair, just, engaging, and structured successful reentry programs, they can make a positive difference, which means everyone will be that much safer. Over time, prisons have begun to overflow and loss sight of their mission. Prison reform is important not only for the inmates, but also affects all of society. To make the best of our prison system we need to reduce prison admissions, and increase successful reentry.
for youngsters who have a long history of convictions for less serious felonies for which the juvenile court disposition has not been effective” (qtd. in Katel).
Those blocks (block, block, block) in just plain gray (gray, gray, gray): the perfect surroundings to leave one's mind blank... or insane.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
I’m 10 years old, but don’t ask about my parents their dead. They both died when i was 8. I live on Maryland St. by the sewer gates and feast on whatever things drift along. I joined a big group of pick-pockets and we make actually a decent amount of money every now and then. One day i was with my friend Zachary and we were scavenging for food when I saw a middle aged women drop her purse and not notice that she even dropped it. I ran over and grabbed it debating if i should take it or give it back to her, I started running toward her when i got close enough I reached out and grabbed her shoulder. She whipped back and grabbed my hand then I said “Sorry mam for startling you, but you dropped this”. Holding it out
1. Procedure to File for Anticipatory bail Application The reason behind the procedure of arrest and detention of the accused is to secure his presence at the time of trial and also confirm that in case if he found to be blameworthy he will be available to receive the sentence. If appearance of accused at the time of trial could be assured other than his arrest and detention, it would be unfair to deprive the liberty of the accused during the pendency of the criminal proceedings against him.
It was a sunny day. The leftovers of last week’s snowstorm still blanketed most of the surrounding area. I decided, after straggling about the house for nearly two hours, lethargy slowly creeping in, that I would go for a drive. I leaped in my trusty old Maverick and roared away. The Maverick, which I bought in 1975, was dark blue, (my favorite color). It was a steal and only ten years past its prime. It was a good, trustworthy car and until today, I had not had any problems with it. This was a spontaneous kind of getaway, so nothing was planned, no basket of food prepared, nor did I make any other preparations. Living in the city can be depressing so getting away from the concrete jungle for a few hours was a welcomed escape. I have not lived in this city for very long, although I knew the names of the adjoining towns, there were a few that I did not know. However, being the adventurer that I am, I drove off in a direction that I have never been. I do not know why I did not think to look at the gas gauge before I left perhaps I was too preoccupied with the thought of fleeing that I did not care.
Not everyone is considered to be a model citizen within society. There are individuals who murder, steal from, and rape others within society. When people commit such crimes against others and not abide by the laws that were created they must be punished. It is the mission of prisons to protect and maintain a civil society by restricting offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and properly secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to contribute to the idea of offenders becoming law-abiding citizens. The primary goal is to teach an individual right from wrong and rehabilitate an offender back into society, another goal of prison is
