For a lot of people the best moments of their lives are major life events like the birth of their children or getting married, for me it was a simple weekend with my mom. About a year ago I had a doctor’s appointment to check how my ear was doing because three months prior to that I had surgery to repair my hearing and create a new eardrum, but that’s a different story. This particular doctor was two hours away in Lebanon and I didn’t enjoy waking up at seven to go to a 20 minute check up with something I already knew the outcome of. “I know my ear is fine, I’m not saying we shouldn’t go, I’m just frustrated we do have to go anyway,” I explained to her. “We’re just going to see how you’re doing, so it’s not that bad,” She replied. That sounds awesome” The factory was around an hour from where we were and we needed to leave so we could be there before it closed, so we finished our meals and got back into the car. The car was in the sun so it was muggy and hot like after a day at the beach. I wasn’t driving so I was in charge of directions. I felt like a co-pilot instructing a plane on where to go in the middle of a foggy night, the roads were unfamiliar and the road had lots of turns but I got us back onto the highway. It had been about 10 minutes since we’d got on the highway when I realized we needed to be going north but we were going south. “Mom… I just noticed… that the possibility that we may or may not be going in the complete opposite direction of where we need to go is becoming probable” I told her. “Well the next exit is in 2 miles so you got lucky…. This time” She explained while she glared at me. Once we started heading in the right direction I started to realize that the exits were becoming more and more spaced out until the next exit was 20 miles away. The car was quiet for five minutes until she said “How do you think that person gets to their house if the closest exit is 20 minutes away?” In reference to a house next to the
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
The car ride lasted for what felt like an eternity, my parents continuously tried to make small talk but it never helped all I could think of was what I lost and couldn’t ever get back. We finally arrived at the gate leading to the house which looked more like an old...
could be better," he replied. "What do you plan to do?" "I don't know yet. But we'll
We drove in silence, the only noise being her deep breathing and my short, shallow sighs. I realized just how far I had walked, as we drove to my house- at least 5 miles. When we reached our house, I looked at it, as if I was seeing it for the first time in my life- the old fashioned porches, the balcony, the huge, beautiful windows. I stayed in the car, as did Micha, neither of us making an attempt to move as she commented on the grass needing cut, and the mess the neighbors had made in the front yard. I heard her, but I wasn't listening- I was merely staring ahead of me, debating if I should get out and run inside or try to justify my actions.
We decided that rather than walking down the road we would just wait where we were. After a half an hour went by we began to get concerned as to where Aimee’s parents were. I checked my phone only to realize that I had no service. We began to walk down the road until I had a connection. I called Aimee again. She explained that they had the road blocked off from traffic for the event and that they could not drive up there to get us. With our broken spirits we carried on down the road, hoping we were heading in the right direction. After an extremely long walk we started to hear traffic. It was the highway! With excitement we hopped over the traffic barricades. We could see the starting line where we had taken off from many hours before. While walking down the highway a man on a four wheeler pulled up along the side of us. He was working for the trails festival and was concerned that we were the runners who had been lost. We told him we were and he offered us a ride back to the festival. With frustration in our voices we told him we would just continue walking, since we had just walked for miles
“I’m pretty sure she will. You should have had something a while ago. I guess they were hoping it would just clear up itself.” Her mom said softly. She ...
Lucky Chance smiled. "Hey, don’t feel bad. Haven’t you ever almost failed like this when you were starting out?"
As the two men driving us, they stopped us in Perkins which was in North Dakota. I was very hungry and the two drivers were nice enough to pay the meals and as I was sitting there, I realized that I wasn’t no longer in Minnesota. At the time, It’s been four years since I haven’t stepped a foot outside Minnesota. As I was in North Dakota, I felt happy and peaceful because it feels good to take a break and see other parts of the United States. As the crew and I finished eating at Perkins, all of us went back to the car. It took us about two day ½ to get to the national park. I’m the type of person who can’t sleep at night, there was about two girls who were sleeping on me. I was keep looking at the window and was asking to myself ‘’Are we there yet’’? As everyone woke up to the next morning, I was the only person who went to sleep. I want to get some sleep and everyone was being loud and it wasn’t cool at all. As hours passed by, I was in Wyoming and the city was small and rural. I wasn’t used to seeing rural
This old/new bus continued our route, and we all sat quietly, awaiting our stops. Everyone had a tired, almost forlorn look, as though they had been through much more than just switching buses. I did not have any concept of time as the bus chugged along, stopping occasionally to let people off, and all of a sudden I recognized that it was almost to my stop. I jerked out of the stupor I was in as the bus stopped in front of my apartment complex. As I gathered up my things to leave, I looked at my friends and said, "Well, this will make one interesting story at school tomorrow!"
The day seemed perfect. The sun was shining through the fluffy white clouds in the sky. The leaves on the trees had turned colors and were beautiful to watch from the windows. We traveled up and down hills like we were riding a roller coaster. When we finally arrived at our destination, we slowed down and pulled over into a small parking area at the top of a large hill. My parents opened the doors and stepped out warning us, “Stay inside the blazer and do not touch anything.” We wanted to go with them, but there was a steep hill to climb and they said they...
It began as a beautiful morning in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The sun was glistening so beautiful, nothing could ruin that day. The sky was cloudless not a cloud in sight. The wind was blowing ever so slightly, making the temperature astonishingly perfect. My family and I were on our way to Buffalo! Cruising down the highways so fast , we were faster than the speed of light or though, is appeared that way to a 7 year old kid (me). We were in 2 cars, our car and my uncle’s car. In our car it was my parents, my brother and I. In the other car it was my uncle his wife and their two kids (a son and a daughter). The ride was long, the smell of Tim Hortons swirled around our car. The bright yellow sun suffused heat on our car, it felt as if our car was slowly filling up and up with lava! The heat constantly increased and increased, until finally we gave up. We opened up the window , slowly the cool
Once the car filled with our bags and some snacks, we took off. The car is packed with no were to move. About one hour later we arrived at the train that would take us to Chicago. It took a lot of waiting but the train finally stopped at our station. Most of the seats were already taken by people who got on before we did. I sat with my dad and my little brother sat with my mom. The sad thing was we didn’t get a window seat I really wanted to see the scenery. We got closer and closer until I could see huge buildings. Then errrrr! The brakes went. We made it to the Chicago train station.
“You sure? I mean you’ll be alright? We can change the subject if you want?”
“Not quite. I’ll get to that, just let me finish,” I said, while trying to put myself back together. I was getting a bit weary because of the
I opened the door, and got a gust of fresh air. Immediately I felt relieved. I felt great for the rest of the night. On my way to the after party, I realized I left my phone in the limo. I immediately began to flip out. I knew I had to do something fast because the limo was on its way back to Laurel, which is about two hours away from Raymond. While I was having a conniption, Taylor was on the phone trying to locate it. When we finally got in touch with the driver, he was already in Richland. As soon as I heard that, I did a U-turn in the middle of the road and began to drive fast. When I arrived in Richland, the driver was waiting on me with my phone. After I retrieved my phone, we went back to the after
