“Oh shoot…… That was too close. I literally almost died. Let’s just take a break and play basketball.” That is what I ended up saying to myself just yesterday. “I literally almost died” isn’t something you say to yourself everyday. It was a nice day with 55 degree weather and I was heading outside to ride our fourwheeler at my house. In our waterway we have a crossing, about 20 feet wide, and it dips into the ground about 2-3 feet and then on the other side of the crossing the land rises about 3 feet. We usually use it to cross to our other field while we are harvesting, but I decided to make better use of it - if you know what I mean. When I started riding the fourwheeler I went through that crossing going 20-25 mph. I hit the crossing and
“Ex-basketball Player” seems to have a more negative tone than “To an Athlete Dying Young.” Though, both a talk about former athlete’s glorious past when the runner in the first dies and the athlete in the second retired. In the poem ‘To an Athlete Dying Young” the runner dies at a young age of natural causes even though his fame does not but while in “Ex-Basketball Player” the fame of Flick washes away in his growing of age. The tone of “To an Athlete Dying Young” overall is much more positive since the poet praises the young athlete as "smart" to leave a world where glory does not remain and can only vanish. It is far better to die young, as Houseman suggests, than to join the many who had enjoyed glory but now have faded. Dying young

It 's the day before my last high school varsity basketball game as a senior… Wow four years went by this fast who would have imagined this day would have came. All day I was thinking about the season ending. This game meant everything to me, it wasn 't any ordinary game. It 's a section game! Win or go home.. With it being my last high school game I wanted to close the chapter knowing I gave it my all. Practice was probably the most intense it 's ever been for me. Emotions were flaring and we were all on the grind.
Road I descended a hill and came upon a narrow bridge. The car went off
“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.“ These inspirational words of Michael Jordan have been the motto of the successful basketball player on and off the court for more than 30 years. Many people consider him to be the greatest basketball player of all time but a lot of people don’t realize how great of a person he is. Michael Jordan should be considered a hero not in the sport of basketball but as a member of society because of his contribution to the world as a inspiration to kids across multiple countries but also for his generous donations to countless research facilities and charities.
Just a few degrees… we stared at the tilted ground in the searing sun, our sweat dripping onto the parched earth. After eight hours, slaving away at the path, our masterpiece was complete. We successfully carved a bike pump track from the carnage of a dying forest. However, our overseer saw our masterpiece as dangerously sloped. Our spirits sank as he promised another day of sweltering labor.
“Quick shoot the ball” Yelled the coach. Running down the field I shoot we won I scored the winning goal.” As I looked over at the scoreboard beep the game was over. We have won the game we are going to the championship. As we were going out to go eat with my team for our win “Bang” a loud crack of the thunder.
When I reached the level road again, I was able to see the road ahead. To my
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. There were never any practices, it was just one or two unorganized games per week. I never took
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
Since this event, more attention has been drawn towards other similar experiences with footbridges and has led to the subject being more widely researched. Since 2000, the number of published papers during that decade relating to this subject has increased more than eightfold over that during the previous one, Venuti and Bruno (2009). This also brings to light the possibility of potential problems for bridges that may not have yet experienced high levels of pedestrian loading.
