A Sweet Dream
I am floating down a glorious river enjoying a warm chocolate chip cookie, when suddenly I come upon even more desserts. It is like some sort of Candyland, or a funky version of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and goodness is it a place I was really starting to like. The river took a sharp turn and I nearly fell off my dream cookie when all of a sudden someone caught me. Goodness I am glad to see Sarah. Come to think of it, she probably is a lot of the reason why I am so into sweets in the first place. Whenever I go over to her house, her mother would feed me pounds of her fantastic cake and she never fails to give me more than enough. That’s it, she is the one to blame for this obsession of mine. But honestly let’s worry about that later, after I’ve enjoyed this dream world I am currently in.

I am saved from falling by my dear friend Sarah and before we could speak in front of us was a ginormous waterfall of chocolate.
Yes, there in front of me was a galore of deliciously fantastic chocolate. It was cascading down perfectly for me to enjoy. I used the word ‘me’ right then because I really am no good at sharing, so at this point in the dream Sarah needs to disappear, so she did. Anyways, coming upon this chocolate amazingness and the minutes after that suddenly become a blur. That’s probably something called chocolate poisoning, but oh well. Then suddenly scenes began to change. It is very cold and we are in some sort of freezer. Sarah is back and looks as startled as I am. I silently wished to myself that this meant ice cream, and luckily just as I am having that thought it appeared in front of me. A bowl of Vanilla Haagen Daz Ice Cream. Even better, next to it is a piece of Brenda Turner’s vanilla cake with strawberry filling. Life could not get better at that moment and I want more than anything to not wake up from this heavenly
dream. One would call a fantasy such as this an obsession, and others would take it as far as to say I have a full on addiction to sugar. You know, I would not completely disagree. I keep telling myself that it is something I may grow out of, or fix with a nice diet, but that never seems to work out quite that smoothly. So I guess for now I am just going to face the fact that I was born with tastebuds that just really love sweet foods and it is just something I am going to have to live with. There truly is nothing better than a bowl of ice cream, or a warm chocolate chip cookie. I sit on my couch realizing how badly I needed to work out, when really all I want to do was fall back asleep so I could continue my dream and eat something yummy and sweet. Next thing I know I am flying back up into this dream world. I am some sort of astronaut soaring very far away. Just as I am getting used to flying through space, the random machine I am flying comes to a sudden halt. Then suddenly, I am floating on a giant chocolate chip cookie down a river of milk and even better, it was a warm cookie and a river made of creamy, white milk. I don’t think one really understand how badly I was craving something so sweet and delicious at that moment on my couch. I sure hope some of you out there can relate with me on this obsession of mine.

An average human will eat almost 19,000 chocolate chip cookies in their lifetime. And the great person who let us have all those cookies, is the person that invented it, which is Ruth Wakefield. But, did you ever think about how it was before that cookie was invented? Probably not, the chocolate chip cookie, started so many other inventions. Imagine life without chocolate chip cookies, we would miss so much more than just than the one treat. Your last chocolate chip cookie probably wasn´t very long ago, that´s why you will be interested in this topic. Today I am here to convince you that Ruth Wakefield, the creator of the chocolate chip cookie, needs to memorialized for her invention. In my speech today I will cover why Ruth Wakefield should

Opening the refrigerator door, I locate two ingredients: eggs and butter. Grabbing the ingredients, I place them on the island sitting vertically in the middle of my rectangular kitchen. I then walk around the island to a cabinet to find baking powder and vanilla extract. Scanning and searching through all the spices and other items, I see the desired components. Finally, I walk across the kitchen to a cabinet standing high on my tippy toes because the protruding countertop makes the cabinet hard to reach. In this cabinet, I find the flour and sugar. I examine all of the goods on the island. The ingredients needed for a sugar cookie recipe, I have made countless times for the last five years.
Probably some of the most pleasurable and enjoyable memories of a person has to do with sweets. When thinking back to birthdays, there is always the memory of the wonderful cake that mother beautifully made and decorated with frosting and glazes. A typical night out with dad can be transformed into a magical evening with a trip to the ice cream parlor. The end of a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner turns heavenly when a hot apple pie is brought to the table and topped with delicious, melting vanilla ice cream. A good wedding is never complete without the cutting of the splendid multi-level wedding cake, when the happy new couple gets to playfully shove and smear cake and white frosting into each other’s smiling faces. Everyone knows that as a child, the only good part about going to the dentist is getting the candy bar at the end of the visit. Why do some people get sick after eating too much suger? Some people do not even know that the abuse of sugar can lead to negative effects on your body. There is something strangely enjoyable and resplendent about the consumption of sugar. Why is it that sugar is so deliciously enjoyable and at the same time a food product that has many negative affects on people’s health?
I am what my uncle always calls a “Half-baked cake”. I was born in India, raised in Kuwait, cultured in America, and am currently living in Qatar. Although one would say that’s only four countries, I was transferred to different ovens while still being baked.
And she looked at me. No, not at me. It was like. . .like when you're driving over a familiar stretch of road and you know it so well that you just stare straight ahead and almost forget you're driving. It was like she knew me. It was like she was me. And then she turned down the cookie aisle and was gone.

In 2013, about 7.4 million tons of chocolate is expected to be consumed globally, totaling to nearly $110 billion (Pardomuan, Nicholson). I can honestly say that I will be one of the many people who contribute immensely to those massive quantities. Chocolate has always been one of my guilty pleasures, leading me to consider myself a “chocoholic.” After 20 years of eating chocolate, I learned there is more to chocolate than meets the eye. Many chemicals compose each delicious piece creating multiple psychological effects on the mind. With the knowledge of the chemical and psychological influences that chocolate has on the human mind and body and my own curiosity as to why I love it so much, this led me to ask: Why is chocolate considered such a pleasurable and craveable food?
For two years, I pranced ignorantly through out my life. Views of the pentagon, flooded the panoramic windows of my apartment. Chandeliered lobbies, tennis courts, a sauna, multiple pools, a gym, a balcony, roof top access, twenty-four-hour security and many other amenities blinded me. It was the place to be. Every night there were parties, people, liquor, music, and food. Two hundred miles away from home, I lived what I thought was, the ultimate life of independence. Completely naïve to the reality of the world, I impractically coasted up the hills in my life. Life was sweet, but have you ever heard the saying life is a box of chocolates? I soon learned, like a box of chocolates, no matter how sweet life is you never know what you’re going
Although I have grown up to be entirely inept at the art of cooking, as to make even the most wretched chef ridicule my sad baking attempts, my childhood would have indicated otherwise; I was always on the countertop next to my mother’s cooking bowl, adding and mixing ingredients that would doubtlessly create a delicious food. When I was younger, cooking came intrinsically with the holiday season, which made that time of year the prime occasion for me to unite with ounces and ounces of satin dark chocolate, various other messy and gooey ingredients, numerous cooking utensils, and the assistance of my mother to cook what would soon be an edible masterpiece. The most memorable of the holiday works of art were our Chocolate Crinkle Cookies, which my mother and I first made when I was about six and are now made annually.
There are many myths and misunderstandings about chocolate. For example, chocolate is not addictive. Many people might consider themselves “chocoholics”, but the fact of the matter is that there is now actual chemical addiction. Researchers, instead, insist that chocolate cravings are stimulated by the “sensory properties”, such as the smell, taste and texture, of chocolate (Brody Pars. 26). In a study concerning the satisfaction of a chocolate craving, one group was given a milk chocolate bar, one group was given a white chocolate bar that contains no actual cocoa, one group was given a capsule of cocoa powder, a...
Everything for a year had been leading up to this point and here I was in the middle of the happiest place on earth in tears because my friends had abandoned me in the middle of Disney on the senior trip.
