Morning comes and the sun began to rise. We were getting ready for our journey to Mt. Rinjani. For first timers like me, I was extremely excited for our journey ahead. After we packed our things and daily needs, we went for our breakfast. We were served fried race, eggs, and hot sweet tea by our host. Reserving energy for our long journey is necessary, so we eat well and have some bananas for dessert. After we reserve energy, we began to start our journey. Before we start the hike, we had to go to the meeting point where we should ask permission to the locals. It is required in order for safety of the hikers. The guide gave us a short brief about the journey, and we started our hike! On the first couple of hours, I was very spirited on the journey and striving through the field of grass. There were cows laying there, the sun was brightly shining. The wind blew softly and the weather is very nice. After some time, we started to enter the woods. It was much steeper than the path before. My legs felt like it would come off. But we could hear people cheering from above. That means the campsite is close! Me and Tharriel started to regain our spirit and we gained our pace. In just around 30 minutes, we finally reached the campsite. Gosh! It was very relieving and the view from the campsite was entertaining. We were literally camping above the clouds now. Some of the locals even sold beer there. Many foreigners also celebrate their arrival. Me and Tharriel took some photos, and continued to our tent. Finally, in the tent we can rest our feet. Poor feet forced to hike for approximately 12 hours, you deserve rest now. After awhile, we enjoyed our view around the campsite. The view is just getting more beautiful. Thick clouds were bellow touching some part of the mountain. The sun is starting to fade away, and the wind is very cold. Just reaching the campsite is eyes spoiling
Wiping the sweat from my brow I called a halt to the crew. Phil and I dumped our packs and found a comfy boulder to rest on. I looked back to where the last guys were coming from back down the trail. They had stopped talking a while back and marched slowly along the dirt trail. Phil produced an energy-bar he’d saved from breakfast and began to munch on it as I drained another water bottle. After the refreshing drink I laid back against the rock and stared up at the pine trees. But a moment later, hearing grumble about sore legs, I sat up, grinning, “By the map we only have another couple hours.”

The diversity of the group members was a strength for their success on the mountain. The members ranged from doctors, journalists, Sherpas, to professional climbers. They came from different backgrounds and past experiences in high altitude climbing and possessed a variety of mental capacities while on the mountain. This is apparent in some members’ decision to return to Base Camp as their health deteriorated. Other members also questioned proceeding to the Summit when the weather turned for the worse. Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, proved the spring’ 96 expedition to Mountain Everest to be the most tragic in mountain history. I believe the storm, and a series of mistakes and the arrogance of human made the deadly result and which breakdowns of the expedition. Many of climbers died on Homologumena, including the very experienced guides Rob Hall and Scott Fischer. I truly believe the trip was not worth it, because they ended their life, and it was a pain losing their family. The unlimited desires of humans are horrible. Even thought, Rob and Scott had reached the top of Everest, they still wanted to challenge themselves as the water who drinks it will be thirsty again.
There were a great many sights to see and memories to be made as we traversed across the beautiful landscape. The trek consisted of two ten mile segments so the younger scouts could just do one part if they became exhausted, but the older scouts were encouraged to tackle the entire journey. It was a warm sunny day in Tucson, Arizona, day three of our summer vacation. Me, my dad, my step-mom, and my sister had planned a hiking trip to Sabino Canyon. My dad and step-mom loved the outdoors and were very experienced with hiking, but however, my step-mom has horrendous Rheumatoid arthritis. Unlike me, my sister kept to herself and is not very fond of hikes nor is she big into nature. Once we got there, I unloaded my backpack out of the car and the rest of my family did the same. Our planned destination were the Seven Falls which was originally planned to only be about a four mile hike all around trip. However, we shorty figured out it was eight miles in total, but we were up for the challenge.
After a quick breakfast, I pulled some of my gear together and headed out. The car ride of two hours seemed only a few moments as I struggled to reinstate order in my chaotic consciousness and focus my mind on the day before me. My thoughts drifted to the indistinct shadows of my memory.

Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
