The Ski Trip Standing in awe, cold air permeated through my hair. The smell of fresh and minty pine scent complimented the beautiful vantage of the wilderness. With my boots wedged in the snow, a shiver took over my body. This is was a place of peacefulness and tranquility. Never before had I been so close with nature. Facing the north was the vast forest. To the left and right, only the crystal white snow was visible. While looking up, I caught a glimpse of the old ski lift, the solo apparatus which was my passport to this great adventure. All that could be heard was the sweet chirping of birds nestled upon tree branches. "This is indeed a moment to remember." I thought to myself. Being that close to nature could put anyone in a state of nirvana. As I stood admiring the clear blue sky and the world around me, I was interrupted by my friends' constant taunting, "Come on, let's go!" They were not rookies. They had experienced the sport of skiing and the atmosphere around it and were not as enthusiastic toward the surroundings as I was. Their calls became louder, with annoyance. I stepped up to the edge of a great slope. The steepness of this colossal block of snow I stood upon, was frightening. The only was to go was down. I took a deep breath with no worries, for this was not the first time I was confronted with a suicide mission. In a heartbeat, the exhilarating feeling of going downhill on a pair of thin skis took over.
“I shall never forget the awful climb on hands and feet out of that hole that was about five feet deep with greasy clay and blood (although I did not know then that it was blood).
Bean and Ender have many similarities that set them apart from their peers in times of peril. Their intelligence made them the most promising weapon in the war against the buggers, rating highest among the smartest children in the world. This is surprising on account of the dissimilarities of their lifestyles before they went to battle school. However, before and during battle school Bean and Ender had to cope with being small. Ender and Bean were both prodigies in their time, but ironically they had completely different personalities. The similarities Bean and Ender shared took them to the top, yet their differences gave them the skills that helped them defeat the buggers and survive as long as humanity needed them.
At 6pm on a Saturday evening, Sally and her parents were on their way to go skiing for their 20th time. The whole family was extremely excited and looking forward to this, especially since the place was somewhere they’d never been to before. As they were in the car, Sally was daydreaming about what the place would look like, and wondered if her worst fear would be there: ski lifts. Everything about this scared her. The car is out in the open, has no roof, and the ride could malfunction at any time. Since this unanswered question was on her mind now, she decided to ask her parents to see if they knew. “I’m just wondering, do either of you know if there are going to be ski lifts at the place?” Both of her parents paused in confusion but didn’t
Even as a young child of six years old Andrew Ender Wiggin must use his judgment to constantly overcome physical and emotional challenges. During an aggressive confrontation at school, Ender is taunted and tormented by a school bully named Stilson and his gang of followers. Even though Ender is unprepared and outnumbered, he is able to quickly evaluate the situation and conclude that the interaction cannot have a happy ending. Instead of simply deciding on a strategy to win this fight, he looks at the situation in a whole new light. He chooses not to be the victim anymore. Ender engages Stilson in a fight and to his surprise is able to knock him to the ground. As Stilson lies helpless on the ground, Ender proceeds to kick him in the ribs and groin until he can no longer even move or make a sound. Why does Ender continue to beat on someone who is no longer a threat? He knows that he must not only win this fight, but he must win all the next ones too.
First of all, Ender was known throughout the book to have great potential. He wasn’t an ordinary kid. He didn’t even have to pay attention in class, like in chapter one it said, “The teacher would know of course, that he wasn't paying attention, but she wouldn’t bother him. He always knew the answer..” Everyone knew he was outstanding. Even his classmate, Bean said so when Ender was explaining how the teachers were trying to break him. “You’re the best, Ender.”, he said as encouragement. On top of all that, Ender had entered Battle School at the early age of six and was constantly promoted early. He was youngest to ever become a commander of his own army. He was given many difficult challenges to face in the battle room, challenges that no one else could handle. No matter how badly these ‘games’ messed with his brain, he never failed to win. He was later graduated to Command School. This made him the youngest graduate of Battle School. Ender, was truly a genius. His strategic victories, triumphs, determinatio...
He makes huge decisions, many of them. He was the main one making the decisions of his life, others life and even the world's existence. All of his decisions for himself and others were all based on not giving up. There were many times when Ender felt like he lost, or like he is done trying, but Ender always succeeds to get thru the battle of life and the battle of the buggers. Whether it was training people to fight ,Him learning to fight, or even his personal life and family. Ender never ceases to give up. But not only Ender was the one not giving up, His sister Valentine, Brother Peter, The Buggers and even the people who train Ender, never give up. Almost everyone has times where they kept pushing to do better than they thought they could. They all suprise and continue to do better every time. They all have such astounding perseverance, it feels unnatural the way they all get thru their own problems so
“I am given such a useless, untrained, hopeless specimen of underdevelopment as yourself,” (pg.76 and 77). The fact that Bonzo is saying that Ender is underdeveloped or small shows that because of his size Bonzo thinks Ender is useless and unworthy. “You're about as strong as a fart … Ender kicked out and hard ... he dropped,”(Pg. 7). This shows that Stilson thought Ender was weak and he could easily beat him, but Ender won the fight. Ender's opponents underestimated him which would create chances for him to strike. When Stilsons friends let go of Ender he is able to kill Stilson. ‘Ender's Game’ is a lot like World War 2. Stilson and Bonzo would underestimate Ender in his smarts and what he could actually do whereas Hitler was underestimated by Americans ;consequently Hitler mass murdered Jews. Hitler was underestimated, people assumed he could not do as much damage as he
Snowboarding, one of the hardest snowsport to learn but easy to master, it's also one of the most enjoyable snowsport on the planet. Even though it’s fun, you can really injure yourself if your not careful. In this narrative you’ll witness the pain I had to go through trying to learn snowboarding but also witness me mastering this incredible sport. It was a cool afternoon in the frosty month of January, the time was around 5:30 pm and my dad just dropped me off at Snow Valley hill in his black Mitsubishi Lancer. I took my blueish green Burton Custom snowboard from the back of the car, grabbed my helmet, gloves, jacket and snowpants and went to the bottom of the hill. There I placed my board on the soft snow and put on my gear. I was wearing a blue jacket with dark
At the age of seven, my life changed forever. I was no longer living in my native country; I was now a fragment of the millions of immigrants who come to the United States in search of the American Dream. At the time, my father had recently lost his job and my mother was unemployed, which caused incredible financial stress for my family. My father decided to risk his life crossing the Rio Grande River for our family to have a better life and greater rewards.
That was made apparent in the beginning, and with that I was captured and felt something in common with the character. That opened my eyes as I turned from one page to the next, focusing on each word and just racing to get to the next word as if they were going to evade off the page and forever be out of sight. Not only did the book show depth to me with the characters, it also allowed them to grow with the book and evolve in which only strengthen the realism of the characters. In the beginning Ender was not as confident inward as he was outward. Constantly doubting his judgement and abilities never wanting to get the wrong answer. In the book towards end his confidence had grown and not only had it in himself but also expressed it more when he gave his commands leading his army during war. Throughout the book during his training he was pushed harder than others time and time again. Each time he meets those challenges, but not flawlessly that you would find in so many young adult books. In the battle room he shows true out of the box thinking with his tactics to get the job done and win. He was promoted to commander of the worst collected group in the academy. During one of many sparing events they faced was against the best team on board, and when they opened arena door the door they had no barriers on Ender’s side to hide behind
I 'm not sure when I 'm going to be in the library next it probably won 't be until Judy 's retirement party. I 'm leaving work that day at 2 so I should be there about 2:30ish.
Thin air encompasses me as I commence the final day of skiing at Vail, Colorado. Seven days of skiing elapse rather painlessly; I fall occasionally but an evening in the Jacuzzi soothes my minor aches. Closing time approaches on the final day of our trip as I prepare myself for the final run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I coast toward the junction of trails on the unoccupied expert face of the mountain. After a moment of thought, I confidently select a narrow trail so steep that only the entrance can be seen from my viewpoint.
When asking most people his or her favorite season that person will say the basic spring, summer, fall, or winter; however, I think of seasons differently. My seasons consist of track season, from the end of February until April; no school season, from May until July; cross country season, from August until November; and soccer season, from November until the middle of February. My life as a high school athlete revolves around school and sports; therefore, my thinking of seasons also revolves around school and sports. There is an attraction to cross country season unlike any other season; consequently, it is my favorite season. Cross country season: the weather, the team, and the euphoria of winning make this the best time of the year.
I lived for getting to travel to different cities and spend my whole weekend competing in a tournament. Throughout my four years in travel SAYBA my couches were Greg Cambell and Greg Johnson. As a result, these two men were my biggest influence in my basketball career. Greg Cambell taught me how to be a hard worker and how to stay tough, physically and mentally. I can picture in my head Greg Cambell always making us to sprints up and down the court for every missed layup. He told us that the better basketball teams are the ones who are in shape. Evidently, you have to be able to make it up and down the court to compete in a basketball game. For this reason, Greg Cambell making us do sprints taught me to keep my head up and push through the end. There has been many times in life where I have started something and wanted to quit right away. However, I have been reminded and told to never give up, and persevere till the end. SAYBA basketball also taught me the importance of discipline. When my team was at practice we set free throw goals for ourselves, and if we didn’t make our goal, the whole team had to run. Therefore, learning the skill of discipline carried over to my schoolwork. I have disciplined myself to study for a test and getting projects done ahead of time. I know that when I do not study or complete a task, there will be consequences involved.
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
