A Hole In One
It was a Saturday afternoon, and I was at golf practice. It was a gorgeous day. The sun was out, there was just a slight breeze, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. No one could have asked for a better day.
Three of my teammates and I were golfing together. We teed off at one o’clock. Walking down the fairway of number one looked just like a scene out of a movie. The lake off to the right and a line of trees along the left, were just gorgeous.
Number two is a one hundred and forty-two yard par three. I was kind of nervous because, of all of the times I had played the course, I had never hit the green. I debated for a moment, because the distance is right in between clubs. I finally decided on a seven iron. I would choke up on it and take a nice easy swing. I teed ...
mind of a rare, sunny day when I peeked out the window into the yard.
The journey back home was full of singing and celebrations of winning the tournament. Although it was the early afternoon that we arrived home, I was exhausted. The remainder of the day was spent telling everyone about the days gone past. Then life went back to normal.
...e law, it does not mean that it is right and that we should be so ignorant to reason. In this situation, I would not be able to live with myself knowing that this one little boy is not being fed, being kicked, and left alone to basically die for my happiness. That is completely unacceptable. I believe that while it is innate for us to settle for comfort, we should not live a life that needs abuses someone to accomplish something. According to the categorical imperative, one should abide what they ought to do because it manifests from the moral law. Thus, I would walk away from Omelas because all people are equal and I would not be able to view this boy as a means to my end, which is happiness. Also, if that is the only way for me to achieve happiness then it is not true happiness but superficial emotion that can easily be demolished if anything happens to the boy.
According to the American Dietetic Association, “exclusive breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and health protection for the first 6 months of life and breastfeeding with complementary foods from 6 months until at least 12 months of age is the ideal feeding pattern for infants.”1 Breastfeeding has many benefits to mother and baby.1 Infant and children mobility and mortality are greatly improved due to the promotion of breastfeeding as an important health strategy.1 The promotion of breastfeeding as a health strategy also works to improve maternal mortalities and reduce overall healthcare costs.1 Breastfeeding for the duration of the first year significantly improves an infant’s overall health and chances of survival.1 Benefits of breastfeeding span from improving family dynamic and maternal health to reducing health care costs and decreasing the impact on the environment.1 Breast milk is unique in that is perfectly tailored to meet and infants need and provide optimal nutrition.1 As experts within the field of nutrition Registered Dietitians should promote and support breastfeeding for its benefits to both mother and baby.1
Every athlete dreams of becoming the best player in their sport. For most athletes, this dream was created in their childhood watching their favorite player perform at great levels to achieve success. Most athletes will stop at anything to achieve success, even if that means breaking the rules. An athlete whether the biggest, fastest, or strongest, will always look for something that will give them and extra edge over everybody else, even if that means performance enhancing drugs. With new records being broken day by day, I believe performance-enhancing drugs should be legal in all professional sports.
so we walk up there connected his hands with his last finger with his first finger. we stood him up squared him behind the ball and walked away and as soon as we did he went right back to the way he was. Me and my father let out a big moan, like a lion roaring in the air. My friend looked back at us with a look like, what did I do this time. we walked up there and explained what we were doing and why. So this time we stayed on the tee box, but took a step back from him. again he went back to the way he was and swung before we could do anything. I have never in the short few years I have played golf seen a ball get a humongous leap in the air and fall such a short distance . I wanted to explode with laughter like a volcano about to
Growing up as an only child I made out pretty well. You almost can’t help but be spoiled by your parents in some way. And I must admit that I enjoyed it; my own room, T.V., computer, stereo, all the material possessions that I had. But there was one event in my life that would change the way that I looked at these things and realized that you can’t take these things for granted and that’s not what life is about.
Many Athletes are willing to do whatever it takes to become a professional. One of the easiest ways to enhance natural ability is through performance-enhancing drugs or, PEDs. PEDs are substances used by athletes to increase their performance. The use of PEDs in athletic competition can date back to ancient Greece. Athletes use PEDs to run faster, jump higher and recover at an increased pace. Many athletes are pressured into using PEDs by coaches or managers and are not thoroughly educated the harmful health issues that can come along with taking performance-enhancing drugs. A rising issue is if performance-enhancing drugs should be allowed in professional sports. I believe that in any professional sport, the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes should continue to be banned because this rule will help to keep athletes from abusing these harmful drugs.
Sport enhancing drugs been a problem in the sport world for many years. Sport enhancing drugs first started with the ancient Greek in 776 BC - 393 BC (Cons). The Greek used hallucinogens and drank special wine to gain and edge on their opponents in the Olympics games. With that being said sport enhancing drugs isn’t going anywhere. It’s been around for many years and Recently MLB (major baseball league) has had issues with athletes using sport enhancing drugs. In 2013 Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz and Jesus Montero were all...
As most New York Yankee fans know, Alex Rodriguez finished the 2013 baseball season with 654 home-runs on his career. 654. He is currently fifth in home-run record books. Sadly for A-Rod fans, there will be no 2014 season. Following a lengthy bout with the MLB, Rodriguez was suspended after testing positive for PEDs--testosterone supplements to be exact. Tied to the, now-closed, Biogenesis clinic, Rodriguez and (at least) a dozen others are in the spotlight for cheating the game they love. Non-baseball fans might recognize the name Lance Armstrong: multi-cancer survivor, cyclist and guilty of cheating his sport as well. These two, among several others, are the posterboys for a dark era in athletics. As most people would agree, steroids and other drugs are a major problem in athletics today, not just for the athletes but for those of us who enjoy a just, fair, clean game.
I can still remember that day. All the beauty of nature collected in one moment. I can still feel the sponginess of the winter-aged leaves under my feet. I felt as though I was walking on a cloud, the softness of the leaves cushioning my every step, they were guiding me along the wooded path to a small creek. The humming of the water moving with the crispness of the air, together they were singing a promise of a fresh and clean new season. It was a beautiful spring that year. Every so often a day like that comes back and I am reminded of posing for our picture together.
It was a beautiful day like any other with the clear blue sky and the
In conclusion, performance enhancing drugs have a harmful effect on the body and I can’t see why with all the recent news of disallowed 1st place wins, deaths rooted from undetected performance enhancing drugs uses in the past, people focused and determined over years, going into a competition and coming out a winner is more respected in my view than an athlete performing well on the day and later being found out to have cheated. That is just amplifying the injustice not setting an example for young athletes possibly breeding a new race of deceitful people in the world of sport
In that split second I saw the world a little differently. I felt as though I had been shot. My mind paused and took a photograph of the view in front of me. I was only able to take one quick vivid photograph in my mind though because it all happened so quickly. The shimmering green grass was blinding my eyes as the strong rays of sunlight beamed down upon the fairway. There was a little gully about fifteen feet from me where there was tall grass that looked like pieces of green and brown string sticking out of the ground. A little patch of grass was missing by the gully to reveal a small sparkling creek that flowed rapidly. There was no wind to blow the strings, so they sat there motionless. I saw the bright green leaves of the trees that were almost completely surrounding me.
They also need this relationship to be able to plan their lesson effectively. For children, understanding the nature and process of science is dependent upon their developmental level and the experiences teachers provide for them. Children can begin to understand what science is, who does science, and how scientists work through classroom activities, stories about scientists, and class discussions. Teachers should provide children with many opportunities to make observations with all their senses, to look for patterns in what they observe, and to share with others what they did and what they learnt from their
