Trip To Blackpool

An experience I will always remember was when I went to Blackpool with my football team. It was early April 2009, my football team had enlisted in a tournament in Blackpool and we were eager to go.

When the day came to leave I was woken at the crack of dawn. I was keen to get to Blackpool as swiftly as possible, not only for the football that was ahead of us but also for the famous Pleasure Beach. The coach picked us up at around 8 am and in we crammed into an already full coach. The journey down was full of laughter and friendly joking from the parents. That day, it was particularly hot and inside the coach a number of people were becoming uncomfortable. I was unaffected by the warmth inside the coach, with my earphones in I relaxed and paid more attention to the vast countryside we were passing through. The vivid scenery blew me away, with colossal hills to calm rivers that we met on the journey.

Arriving in sunny Blackpool at 11 am, we had the full day to ourselves. Firstly we were required to check in to the hotel we would be staying at. At first impressions, it seemed disorganised with parents being sent to wrong rooms and the long wait to be served by the only receptionist. Once we had our key another walk up the three flights of steep stairs. Finally we arrived at our room, again it was disappointing with holes in the curtains and dust lying like a sheet over the small table. However I forgot about it as we were off to the Pleasure Beach. The ten minute walk from the hotel seemed to fly in, although the sight of the elusive Pepsi Max made me reconsider the rush.

Once we arrived at the gates, we queued for ten minutes before getting access to the park. We all hastily made our way to the main attraction of the pa...

...e bus and off we went. As soon as we arrived we were told that the kick off would be in ten minutes. After a quick warm up we were ready. My hands were shaking, heart pounding but I couldn’t wait to start. When the game started my nerves escaped from my head and I was focused on the match.

The game was one sided with us scoring early on then again in the second half. The final score was 2-0. I was ecstatic, I couldn’t believe that we had won the tournament. At the presentation of the trophy, all I could hear was the parents shouting and screaming, I was so proud to be part of the team.

The journey back home was full of singing and celebrations of winning the tournament. Although it was the early afternoon that we arrived home, I was exhausted. The remainder of the day was spent telling everyone about the days gone past. Then life went back to normal.
