Introduction
Performing a professional development plan is something new for me, but i took it as a challenge that will help me achieve my goals, it will also help plan my ideas and future plans. I have found it very difficult to find work as a nurse in this country for not having, neither the experience nor the license in the state of FL. It had been a long time since I finished my studies and unable to find work as a nurse I gave up, stop looking and did not want to go back to school so soon. At the insistence of my mother and with the support of my family I decided to go back to school and finally start my baccalaureate so that I can open new doors and hopefully have a better job opportunity. She was my best example growing up and my motivation in becoming a nurse when I was growing up.
Professional History
• Professional Organizations. I am part of the Professional Association of Puerto Rico. They provide continuing educations, do research and studies, monitor the practice of health professionals and also have a code of ethics.
• Committees. At the moment I am not part of any committee since I am not working at a hospital and in my current job they recently did a moral committee but I am not a part of it. But in the future I, would love to be a part in as many committees possible.
• Certifications. I am a part of the Board of Nursing in Puerto Rico and am registered in the Professional Registry from Puerto Rico. The support of my family, especially my mother and enthusiasm of my daughter when she sees me studying encourages me and gives me the necessary strength to keep going. My daughter every time she asks me when I am going to go work in the hospital like grandma, she wanted me to finish studying already and take my tests so that I can get dressed as a nurse, this gives me strength every day and in union with my desire to achieve my goals, this time nothing will stop me until the end and with my effort and the help of my family, Keiser University, Professors and especially God I will accomplish it. "A mentor is an experienced nurse who is committed to nursing and to sharing knowledge with less experienced nurses to help advance their careers" (Black, 2014, p.128). My mentor is my mother who is who encourages me and helps me as far as you can, she was a nurse, BSN in Puerto Rico with 28 years of experience, seeing and living with her since I was a little girl she was reaching her achievements and that I was involved in them I want to emulate her and become as good or better than she is. “Yet through exchanging ideas about strengths over lunch or finding a mentor or coach we may find a way to begin to reap the benefits of developing potential through strengths” (Welch, Grossaint, Reid, and Walker, 2014).
