I gave her a fake smile, and slipped my own shoes on. The left foot boot had a huge stain that was as black as the midnight sky. I looked at the doorway and could see my mom and dad carrying huge loads of presents into the back of the truck. I keep looking to see if they were carrying a small rectangular box that was the size of an iphone that I have been wanting for like, EVER! I decided to look away and have it be a surprise because maybe if I got something good this year for Christmas people would start to notice me. Anyways, my cousin Bella had a iphone that was so cool, we used to play on it all the time, just me and her.
Suddenly, my mom was yelling, “Emma! Becky! We have something for you guys!”I jumped, I was scared half to death.
I opened it and saw the words "You're right I shouldn't, but for some reason I just cant help it. I need to tell you one last thing." At this point, my emotions were as troubled and jumbled as trying to find a needle in a haystack. He answered right away and as I was about to open it when my little sister came barging into my room, "Haley wanna ask mom for ice cream?" Hesitating before I answered saying, "maybe not tonight for me Lexi Lu." "OK then I'm still going to have some without you." She sassily responded before turning around and skipping upstairs. Resuming to how I was before she barged in, I went to check what he sent me. Nervous to what it would be, I pushed my arm out further away from me in attempt to make the screen smaller. I soon as it popped up, I read the words I would never forget, "Haley, I love
“Lauren! Let’s go!” My mom yelled from the bottom of the stairs, interrupting my thoughts.
The next day i woke up and went downstairs to eat some breakfast. On the kitchen there was a not from my mom saying that her dad and Alec had gone shopping for our trip out of town and there was a checklist for what i needed to pack. Most of it was just essential things like toothpaste and a toothbrush.
Hey mom. PATTY Oh my goodness. Honey, you scared me. MOLLY
The next thing you know, the whole school came outside to see what was going in. Five minutes later the fire truck , the ambulance , and the cops showed up. My sister's third grade teacher was riding in the ambulance with me, because my brother and sister couldn't come and my mom and dad were at work. Five or ten minutes after I got to the ER my mom showed up and she came in like a cheetah running.
Leaving the bodies for last we walked down the drive to take a look. Several rifles and shotguns were leaned carefully again the big oak. Two handguns and some knives were on the grass in front of them. Four people dangled from a branch of the tree close enough to each other to bump like a weird wind chime. A young couple and the other twice their age at a guess from the gray hair and styles of dress. They were probably parents and a married son or daughter with their spouse. Other than being hung there were no injuries apparent on any of the four. From the condition of the bodies they had been dead about a day.
I was making my way to the cafeteria for lunch, when my friend Allie grabbed my arm and whisked me out the front doors of the school. My other friend BethAnne and another girl she knows were close on our heels. Allie announced that she was getting us Little Caesar's. Little Caesar's pizza is my favorite kind of pizza and I can usually only buy it occasionally, so I was reasonably excited.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Said a ruffled voice, coming from my half-opened door. Raising my head from the bed, squinting my eyes, trying to see who was at the door, there stood my chloric father.
Then right after she had said that the tornado siren went off. I got a jump scare.
Next I secretly followed them upstairs into my parent’s room to see what they were up to. But I couldn’t see what they were doing clearly because the door was just open a little bit. All I could see is my dad handing the big box to my sister and they both had a really happy face like they just went to a roller coaster and that’s when I saw the side of the box. At that moment my subspecies face turned into a really mad face. What I saw was a brand new laptop and it was my sister.
It was my fault, no one else’s, the time where failure hit harder than someone beating a drum. End of spring 2013 I found out that I was repeating the grade all over again, never have I imagined myself being in that position till that year. Leading up to this was beginning of ninth grade year, terrified knowing that I wasn't going to know anybody I was going to be alone. I went through so much emotionally it began to show the first few weeks of high school. Constantly having anxiety attacks where I end up staying the entire day in the office since I kept crying eyes out.
I got her to drink some water and moisten her lips. I so wished we had some of the cosmetics that she had spent thousands of dollars on over her life that I had always thought foolish and frivolous of her. I wished for her powders and colognes and creams that used to annoyingly crowd our family bathroom. I wished for one of the thousands of outfits she had selected for herself over her life that took over most of closets in our house, but had always made her, by far, the most fashionable mom in
back to the room and was scolded by my mom. My mom held on to my arm
Finally, we arrived at our destination. I left the car leaving my parents and little brother behind and ran up the steps to my grandma’s house. I just had to be the first one to knock on her door, so I did. She opened the door for me, and I went inside parting with the bitter cold and darkness surrounding me. Inside the house I was immediately encircled with the aromas of her Christmas cooking and baking. A real fresh Christmas tree which was already beautifully adorned with old family ornaments perforated the air with more holiday aromas. I went into the kitchen with my mom, and together we helped my grandma finish preparing the Christmas Eve dinner.
When I arrived at home I ran straight to my room and found the wrapping paper and ribbons inside a huge bag. Realizing I needed tape to complete the task , I went looking for the remnants of the scotch tape I had thrown into the depths of the enormous bag the night before when I had helped wrap my mothers gifts to the family. As soon as I found it I went to work on the job of wrapping the gift. The gift wrapping took a while and several attempts to wrap the object since it was so oddly shaped. When I had finished, the present resembled a clump of wrapping paper more so than an actual Christmas gift. I was very proud of myself since my father would never be able to guess the contents of the box now. I stashed the gift away under our tree and left it there for what seemed like ages, although it was in reality only a couple of days.
