When someone is a child, they are cared for by someone. As they grow they are taught how to care for themselves and others. Some people are taught to take responsibility for their actions almost as soon as they say their first words. Once a person reaches high school, it becomes more clear that people expect them to have a certain level of independence. It is vital that people have a strong sense of personal independence when they are adults. It is valued in all aspects of life, but it is a very challenging thing to deal with. Personal independence helps someone gain a sense of self and some freedom. Think about it. They begin to become their own person, so they can independently choose what they want to do and who they are. This sense of self comes with freedoms. When someone is able to become themselves and develop who they are as a person, they are also able to say they have some freedom. When someone becomes an adult, they can break away and change who they are, so in a sense they are free to be themselves. When someone is free to be themselves, they are able to do and say as they please. Equally important, there is a few challenges to someone gaining a sense of self and freedom. When someone is an adolescent and is in school, being themselves may be hard and they may be outcasted by their peers. When it comes down to it, it is easy for someone to be outcasted by society and peer groups. In terms of personal freedoms however, everyone always has to worry about the laws. People can't just run around stealing cars and committing murder every day and say they are exercising their personal freedoms. If that were the case, the world would be in chaos. A way to keep some people in check would be expectations. Expectations can be both a godsend and a curse on everyone as a whole. Following
