Loyalty, it’s a bitch, it can be good or it can be bad. Sometimes you can be very loyal, but still be betrayed. Loyalty is a noble quality people look for in a partner or friend. The word loyalty means being faithful to one’s oath, commitments, or obligations. Loyalty is one of the most stressed aspects in a relationship, whether it is friendship or an actual relationship, it still causes a great deal of heated debates. Some people feel that loyalty is not that important, however, I feel as though loyalty is one of the most important qualities you can have. It is not easy to deal with someone that isn’t loyal. Some of my personal experience I’ve had with loyalty would have to start in elementary school when I struggled to fit in. As I started my middle school years, I had struggled with people being loyal because my …show more content…
As the year started, I was wanting a fresh start, new friends, and maybe to find a “loyal” best friend. As basketball season came around, I decided to join the team. As I became a team member I was hoping for a good season and a lot of new friends I could trust. But, as the season started, I started to be bullied again. Everyone was making fun of me and calling me names, even my own teammates. The only one who wasn’t bullying me, was my only friend in elementary school, who wasn’t really my friend, but an acquaintance. He then became my best friend again. We would hang out all the time and were inseparable. We decided to have some friends over to play flash light tag, yet I was stilling really nervous. Judging by what happened in elementary school when we hung out with other people and not just ourselves, I had a feeling that would be the end of our friendship again. After that night he started to blow me off again. Soon to find out he had a girlfriend and didn’t feel as though he needed me as a friend
Loyalty in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Odyssey by Homer and Don Quixote by Cervantes
A very obvious example of loyalty is, Penelope. She is faithful to Odysseus for over 20 years and does not give up for long time. Even when the suitors came to her house and ate her food and overstayed their welcome she did not budge and still stayed faithful to Odysseus for the whole time he was gone. She told the suitors that when she finished her tapestry she would choose who she wants to marry, but every night she would undo a piece of the tapestry just so it would take longer and it would give Odysseus more time to come back just so she would not have to choose one of the suitors.
Loyalty allows people to make sacrifices in order to protect the ones that are deat to them. In the book The Chrysalids written by John Wyndham, there are individuals willing to die for one another just to keep each other safe from the society trying to hunt them down.
Loyalty is like glue, since it keeps the camaraderie in a relationship intact. If someone breaks the loyalty, then that trust and camaraderie are damaged as well. But yet, one can remain loyal without sacrificing one’s needs or desires. Examples of this have often appeared in modern day literature. For example, take the Tillerman siblings from Cynthia Voigt’s novel, “Homecoming.” In this novel, the oldest sibling, Dicey, has to take care of her three younger siblings after their mother deserted them in a mall parking lot. In addition, Dicey has to lead her siblings to her aunt’s home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is well over 60 miles away. At the beginning of the book, I believed that Dicey had to sacrifice everything she loved to keep her siblings close and together. But, as the novel goes on, you see that Dicey did not have to give up as much, since the one thing Dicey treasured the most was her family. Sure, they did make her mad and annoyed at times, but she loved them, and all she wanted was to keep them safe. Her love is what made her so allegiant toward getting to Aunt Cilla’s home. A similar situation applied for the siblings. Sammy, the youngest child, was a real, “mama’s boy.” You can tell that when their mother left them, he was the child that was in denial for a while. “Go on, because nobody cares about me except Momma, and Momma will come find me but she won’t find you, so you ahead (Pg 41).” But eventually Sammy finally admitted that Momma was gone, and that made his loyalty to Dicey even stronger. He fished, cared, and even stole so his family would be safe. In this example, loyalty kept the Tillerman siblings close together. But, even in a more futuristic, fictional story, this concept exists.
Everybody, at one point or another, has done something for a friend or a group of friends that might have been inconsistent to their values. They might have lied to one friend for another, making them feel uncomfortable, or help them cheat on a test, which they wouldn’t ever have imagined him/herself doing. People in the book, The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton, struggle in the theme that loyalty to friends can prevent individuals from showing their truest self.
Loyalty can be expressed in many ways whether it be by doing anything for someone else or just being very trustworthy person overall.
Loyalty is a hard quality to find in a friend, so once loyalty is found that friend is usually in it for life. Faraway friends are the ones we find ourselves turning to in our darkest hour of need and the ones that we would step into battle with. Marion Winik perfectly explains the importance
Then on January 18th we started texting about our issues. My friend had not been very nice lately, and she had changed since she was my buddy in crime in elementary school. So, we started texting about our issues. I was about to send the text, “Gtg”, and go downstairs for dinner, when she sent a text saying, “I don’t think we should be best friends anymore.” As soon as the text lit up on my phone screen, I started sobbing. I was heartbroken, destroyed, and most of all, disappointed. My best friend since 2nd grade had told me she didn’t want to be my best friend anymore, and ever since then, it really did feel like that. I was lucky if I ever felt that we were just acquaintances. This text devastated me. In most situation, if you make a friend in early elementary school, usually you’re friends and you stay friends forever, and get closer year by year. But, in my case, that fate did not happen. My best friend turned around on me and said she didn’t want to be my best friend anymore. So I realized that even though friends can promise things, you never know what will happen to a friendship five years in the future, but if friends are loyal to you, a friendship could last a
Throughout the year, there have been multiple values portrayed throughout the numerous characters we have read about. Out of the many values, loyalty has been the most expressed. Loyalty has also been a value that supports and expands the story's theme. As an example, Of Mice and Men has a theme of how strength and opportunity can change a person, not always for the good. Therfore because Lennie is loyal to George, the amount of power and opportunities that George gains puts him in a rough situation, changing him for better or worse. The three main characters that showed the most loyalty are Boxer, Lennie, and Antigone. Each character distinguishes loyalty at different times and in different ways, however these characters are best defined as loyal.
My team and I, who have been playing together for years, were all good friends. That season was when one of the owners of the league i played for went up to my coach (who was also my dad) and asked him if I was interested in joining the league’s club soccer team. I was so excited about doing it, but I also didn't want to do it at the same time. The summer before I played that season my brother had gotten me into liking basketball so I didn’t know what to do either stay in soccer, or start playing basketball. I also didn’t want to leave my team I was playing with because we had been playing together for years . So I end up declining the club offer, and finished the rest of the season with my team. I also ended up choosing to play basketball as my next sport and i still am playing basketball (I am hoping to try out for the GCA basketball team) as of right
Loyalty is one of the only things that can hold the bonds of family and friends.

One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
What is trust? Is trust essential for the way we live our everyday life? Trust is a quality or condition of being trustworthy; loyal; reliable. I think trust is an essential way of life because you cannot make a relationship, friendship, a business, or an organization if there is no foundation. Part of that foundation is trust and loyalty because you should be able to depend, rely, and trust others that they will do exactly what is right for them and you. Trust can be broken so quick, it is scary, because once trust is broken it is a lot harder to gain back then when you first gained trust in someone. This relates to my life because my trust with my dad was alerted going into my freshman year.
“Relationships are what make up our world today, they shape the ways we see things and the way that we do things, relationships affect how we see the world today”. I believe supporting what your partner does, having a great sum of trust and showing your affections towards your partner is what will make a healthy relationship great.
