Dyeing Hair is Powerful My desire to control every aspect of my earthly life has always been a part of who I am. Steve Maraboli, a highly sought after motivational speaker says “The reason many people in our society are miserable, sick, and highly stressed is because of an unhealthy attachment to things they have no control over”, for a while I myself tried to control the uncontrollable; I have since learned. There have been times in my life when I lost control and wasn't attached to anything, my future was at the control of everyone and everything. That is a dangerous place to be. Dyeing my hair was something that I could always control, to no avail, something to attach to. The addiction for me began after an unfortunate hair bleaching accident, long story short I got prescription face cream touch my hair and woke up to it being orange everywhere. I’ve had brazilian hot oil treatments that promise to repair every hair cuticle on my head, I’ve had a breakthrough swedish product; olaplex, shipped to my house to rebind my hair proteins. That in itself is powerful, being in the sole position to take something broken, withering away and through time making it strong and luscious. However it’s also powerful how these products promise to fix everything in one box, in 35 minutes or less, for only $19.99. In reality the only word that can describe this act is a temporary band aid. The only thing these products do is make one’s hair appear healthy, until seven days later when one’s hair returns to its broken, dry heap of over processed hay. Similarly we can lie to ourselves and make it seem like we have the essence of control, and we might even be able to maintain that for a little bit, until it all comes crashing
