My religious faith and my upbringing have instilled in me the belief that high moral values such as integrity, honesty, fairness, and compassion define the personal character of an individual. These values are important to me because, my personal code of conduct, derived from these moral values, allow me to make correct choices and act ethically, both in my personal and professional lives. I consciously make every effort to lead my life adhering to these principles. These values help me lead a guilt-free and happy life irrespective of the many hardships and failures I have encountered along the way. These values guide me to make better decisions, to create a pleasant environment both for me and those around me, and to deliver the highest quality …show more content…
I was the second hire (but, first engineer) into a new division formed to explore business opportunities in the industrial automation market. This—my first job— provided me with a wonderful learning opportunity, allowing me to hone my computer applications skills very early in my career. In ten years, the division grew to be a seventeen member team. I was given ample opportunities to demonstrate technical excellence and quickly rose through the company’s ranks. I became a team leader, and eventually, the manager of this division. Just around this time, I got an opportunity to take up an employment with a US based firm. After ruminating over several weeks, I finally decided to take up this opportunity and migrate to the US about four months later. Just when I was about to declare my intention to leave the firm, I learnt that the company, having performed extremely well, was just about to announce the first bonus ever to its employees. I, being the senior most and key employee of this startup division, stood to gain significantly a large amount of money as bonus. However, I also knew that if I disclosed my intention to leave the company at that time, I would automatically become ineligible for the bonus, which was to be declared a couple of months later. I could have held back my decision to leave the company, collected the bonus, and then I could have left the …show more content…
We frequently have our customers visiting with us for project discussions and review meetings. It is customary for us to take our clients for dinners during their stay with us. The company has strict rules on how much one can spend on food and alcoholic beverages. The company has zero tolerance policy for any infractions, especially with business expense reporting, and using company the credit card at night clubs or casinos. On this occasion, I had asked one of my direct reports, John (not his real name), to host a visitor from overseas for dinners over a weekend. At the end of the month, when he submitted his expense report for approval, I was shocked to see that he had spent excessively for dinners, and for alcoholic beverages at local nightclubs during the weekend. This was a total violation of the company policy. Just then I realized that I could have indirectly been a reason for this major infraction on John’s part. I had observed, on a few occasions earlier in the year, that John had exceeded his limits relating to food and other incidental expenses during his business travels. However, I had ignored to intervene and correct these infractions due to two reasons: first, any intervention would require a written report to HR, and second, John was a key member of my team, and I was instrumental in selecting and hiring him, and I felt questioning him or penalizing him for these infractions would be tantamount
According to Willard (n.d.), the ethical body can be examined by evaluating the personality, actions, and character of an individual. My own ethical characteristics includes being honest, fair, compassionate, courageous, patient, and generous. These characteristics developed through learned behavior and actions that led to my current ethical body.
I, Rob Geis, commit myself to the code and values that I am about to describe. As a person I have vast life experiences that have affected who I am and what I believe in. As a Public Relations professional it seems that our industry is often under ridicule for being unethical and known as spin doctors. As an ethical student and person I consider these key values as guiding stones to my applied ethical choices. Family, friends, school and religion have all made me the person I am today and influence my ethical choices.
In a health care organization, it is important that the organization’s mission, philosophies, and ethics are followed through properly. . With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is no different. . The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “mission is to protect people’s health and to support the quality of life in humans by prevention and control of diseases, injuries, and disabilities” (About CDC, 2010, page or paragraph number with quotes). With the organization's mission, philosophies, and ethics it is important that everyone’s health is protected and proper prevention of diseases, illnesses, and disabilities are given to the public in a timely manner. In this paper, the members of Team A will “describe what are the organization’s goals, how are they tied to its ethical principles, and the role and importance of the corporation’s ethical values” (University of Phoenix, 2012, Week Three Supplement). Team A will also specify “what the relationship between the organization’s culture and ethical decision-making is and why is it important that the organization’s ethical values support Team A's ethical values” (University of Phoenix, 2012, Week Three Supplement, see above)? In addition, Team A will explain the social responsibility for the Center of Disease Control and Prevention in the community” (University of Phoenix, 2012, Week Three Supplement, see above). The major areas of my values and ethics can be summarized in six words: excellence, personal integrity, responsibility, ambition, accountability, and determination. Excellence guides me when setting targets in all my undertakings; I normally strive to achieve my best. Personal integrity and accountability enable me to make sound judgments to avoid engaging in actions that will hurt me and/or other people around me. Responsibility is important to me as it enables me to identify the part I need to play in my family, at the workplace, and in the community. Lastly, ambition and determination are applicable in providing me with the momentum needed to ensure that all my initiatives and tasks are done to completion.
I have chosen the business profession topic of higher education administration. I am extremely familiar with this profession; as it is the job that I currently hold. There is a plethora of different activities and task that are dealt with on a daily basis within this profession. Some of these items consist of assisting both full and part time staff and faculty, maintaining order within budgets and finance, including all purchase orders and check requests, facilitating student awards, including scholarships, staffing and training within the department, as well as dealing with public policy and laws within the college. It is immensely obvious that this job would keep anyone busy. This alone is one of the reasons I love this profession so much. Each day brings something new, and important group of items to accomplish. Anyone who holds this job, would go into work everyday knowing that the tasks that they are about to perform, will create a difference to not only to the departments and its students, but will also make a difference within the entire college. This person alone has the responsibility of making ethical decisions every single day as well as watching out for others who may need help being pointed in the proper ethical direction based on their knowledge of the school’s ethics plans that have been put in place. If someone were unaware of the ethical standards in this profession, there is a lot of room for things to head in a corrupt direction rather quickly.

We human beings live in a society. The society or the social world we live in is based on human cooperation. In other words, the individuals in a society do not live in an isolated self-centered world. The human interactive system presupposes ethical and moral standpoint from which we operate. My personal ethical system is based on “service before self” and “love your neighbors as yourself”.

In this paper I am going to be discussing my values and morals in life that helps me be successful with knowing what is right and wrong in personally and professionally everyday life. There are many things that go on in the world today and it is extremely important to have values and morals set in place. Also going to be discussing how cultural heritage has shaped my values and what ethical behaviors I see in myself.
Personal ethics play a crucial role in the life of everyone around us and it represents specific features and characteristics that have been formed through our family and society. Our personal ethics are influenced by cultural, beliefs, morals, and spiritual values. These decisions can have positive or negative impacts on society. In our daily lives, each and every person is responsible for making decisions that can influence those around us, such as people we work with, our family, and even those we go to school with. The focus of this paper is to identify my personal ethical values, indicate the primary influences, values that guided my decision, and the progress of my ethical goals.
As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice.
These are values that I think will make life better and easier for a person.
During everyone 's lifetime, there is always something we hold closest to our hearts; it maybe our principles we live by, values, and even our own beliefs. Values are those things that are very important to us but never really realize how much we actually value them in our life. Have you ever been asked to define three of your main values and rip them up? I have and I never noticed how much they meant to me. Each and every one of us believes in our own personal values. These values are what gives us strength and strive us to do what makes us happy. These values are very important to us and are standards that we live by whether we realize it or not. Everyone has something we value including me. Some of the values I might think highly of,
Values make up a large part of our life and influence the decisions we make. I will continue to live my life with honesty and I aim to become a person of integrity, my ambition and work ethic will help me develop into a better being. I don’t doubt that my values will carry me on to a successful and fulfilling life. Without my family and friends I would have not been able to reach the point where I am today, and I would not be able to personally grow and develop my own way of living and personal beliefs. These influences will help guide me to the path of becoming a decent man. Fortunately, I have my spirituality in hopes to continue growing and develop a better understanding of everything around me.
My Personal Ethics Plan. I have most of my life considered myself to be an ethical person. I try to empathize with others, be kind and respectful, and definitely not be deceitful. I was raised in a family with morals, values. I come from a Christian home, but not overly religious.
