In Education, you are forced to always consider the possibility of classroom deviation. What if certain students are unable to work together based on group dynamics; or if certain students have different developmental needs than the rest of the class? But in the process of creating the unit plan, I overlooked these crucial factors. I had unintentionally created the perfect classroom.
The peer review helped with much of the disillusionment. I had not thought about addressing children with different learning styles, or seating arrangements. The teacher would have to plan everything. Much of my revision featured procedures for transitioning between different activities, and how students would get into or disassemble from groups. Most of it was changing the lesson to fit as broad of a classroom as possible, and then to change items to fit the needs of individual current students. Planning reading was also an

Boredom means that you are not considering your audience and the purpose of instruction. “Planning starts with determining what students already know and what they need to understand and be able to do” (Alberta Education, 2003, p.5). However, it is also dependent on determining what students will be expected to know and understand. Activities will always manifest to suit an objective. A writer does not find a moral after he is finished writing, nor should a teacher. Lessons initially need clearly linked, progressive outcomes; a general purpose, not meaningless activities. If a student is complaining, it is probably the activity that is stunting learning, not the objective. “Children don’t go to school to do things; they go to school to learn things” (Wright, 2012, p.33); the activity can be changed while still providing students with the necessary skills to continue learning. You cannot plan the kinds of reactions that students will give you, but you can plan the objectives that students will react
Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as often as I did, why they felt so bored, they always gave me the same answers: They said the work was stupid, that it made no sense, that they already knew it. They said they wanted to be doing something real, not just sitting around. They said teachers didn’t seem to know much about their subjects and clearly weren’t interested in learning more. And the kids were right: their teachers were every bit as bored as they were
I felt the modifications made to the curriculum helped Peter complete his assignments in a way that was beneficial to his learning style. In particular, the modification made to how he completed his journal seemed to encourage to think things through before providing an answer. An additional benefit this particular modification offered was he was allowed to discuss his idea aloud with a partner who would then write down his answers.
Teachers need to be allowed to teach the students how they want so the lesson plan is more fun and exciting. Boredom is just an emotion and teachers shouldn’t have to feel that because of them, they are affecting the state of mind of students.. Teachers should able to engage the students with their own thought process. Teachers need freedom and should not have to worry about how fast they teach a subject because the government wants it done in a specific way at a specific time. Teachers understand that students all learn differently and many teachers want to help all of their students, but they are stuck in a school system that tells them how they must teach.
This classroom management plan was created to address the needs of a first grade, general education, inclusion class. The majority of the students have attended kindergarten at the same school, so they are familiar with the school grounds and know their fellow classmates. Classrooms today are the most diverse they have ever been; population changes have affected the dominance of social and cultural backgrounds; while inclusion has moved to mainstream students with more diverse needs and abilities. Emmer, Stough, Sugai and Horner (as cited in Capizzi, 2009) state, that these changes demand “well-managed classrooms to promote positive behavior and optimize learning and achievement” (p. 2).
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
...ualized plan due to time constraints, it is reasonable to treat each student as they do have an individualized education. Teachers should know their students well enough to individualize the classroom activities so all students have strengths in each lesson. Through collaborative efforts, teachers can gain knowledge about the students and new ways to teach according to different learning styles. Working together, each student can receive an individualized education where their full potential is used.
13. Preventing Boredom and filling “free” time: To prevent students from becoming sidetracked and bored, I know it is important to have a continuous flow of activities. To ensure this, I plan all of my lessons with extra activities for unexpected “free” time. These efforts will help ensure that class time is used wisely for furthering education. I feel that the busier I keep my students the less likely they will have time for inappropriate behavior.
Getting people, especially kids interested in school is the one and only thing that no one has quite figured out yet. If you teach on a project based learning curriculum you take the risk of having kids fall into a lazy slump. If you teach primarily with textbooks and lectures, you run the risk of kids skipping and falling asleep. Is there truly a way of keeping kids entertained while teaching them the necessities? A study done in Lincoln, Nebraska by Laura Parn states “As teachers, we are getting so busy and burdened with the federal, state, and district requirements that we forget to think about the emotional needs of our students. It is not common that we have time to stop and think about what our students want or desire, but according to Damico and Roth (1994), it is necessary for the success and engagement of our pupils”. This proves that the challenges in the educational system need to be seen and acted upon by higher ups before public schools can even think about making a difference. That really does make things exceedingly difficult because we all know how long it takes federal higher ups to make decisions. Laura also says that teachers tend to forget about the emotional needs of students. Which is very unfortunate because when a teacher helps you with a math problem, or eve...
This was the first lesson that I taught in Practicum 1, and overall the lesson went very well. During the lesson I used different strategies to adjust the lesson to fit the needs of the students. The tiered lesson strategy was used through out whole group because of the different materials I handed each group of students. Prior to the lesson I prepped the group activities according to the students’ interests, readiness, or learning profiles that out mentor teacher sent to us. The next time I use the tiered lessons strategy I am going to make sure my lesson addresses a particular standard and I have more than 3 pathways available for students to arrive at an understanding. Flexible grouping was a strategy that I used through out my lesson’s procedures but I did end up changing some of the grouping on the spot due to absent
There a easier and simpler reasons to not be bored. People could listen to music or read a book once in a while. By listening to music people could let their mind be clear and just focus on the music. When reading a book we would just focus on the words on the page. We could take a hike and let nature clear a path for you. Instead of having to deal with boredom we could do things that sound boring , but actually do these things to help us.
My teaching career has been spent learning how to provide appropriate support, guidance, patience, & understanding, as well as to enhance academic growth & success, for all students. My purpose as a teacher is to enrich and inspire the lives of young students with moderate/intensive needs by providing access to information instead of functioning as the primary source of information for students to flourish. My teaching methods will be to create an environment ripe with opportunities for discovery and exploration which will allow all students to learn at their own pace, generate questions and construct knowledge, while providing hands-on practice of skills in authentic situations as well as to make learning intriguing and meaningful to all students. Carefully planned and constructed learning environment will also allow the teacher more time to meet the individual needs of each student. Another important factor to a well-prepared learning environment is to facilitate learning, and providing students with balance and consistency (2004). Young students require a balance between various classroom dimensions, including activities guided by the teacher and independent work, quiet work and active work, gross motor and fine motor activities, and open and closed aspects to the curriculum and classroom materials (2004). Consistency is also a required condition for learner success. Schedules (daily and weekly), the enforcement of classroom rules, and student expectations should not be in flux but remain consistent. Without a sense of consistency in the classroom, school life would lack the necessary feeling of safety and reliability young children need to focus, to take risks, and to t...
Classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement, so students cannot learn in poorly managed classroom. Additionally, research has pointed out that the quality of teacher-student relationships is the main aspect of classroom management.(…2). Furthermore, when teachers set classroom management plan, the plan will give structure to everything from seating to lessons to grading to the relationship between students. Teachers should incorporate strategies for addressing student behavior into classroom
I did not realize it would take as much time as it did. Our group really wanted to get it right and perfect it as much as possible. I also discovered that collaboration enhanced the lesson’s creativity and variety of activities. I had previous ideas about what I thought would be good for each 5E section. After meeting with my fellow classmates multiple times throughout the weeks, I see now how the lesson plan got better and better each time we planned. It became more creative and included variation with activities. With lesson planning, I realized that it has to be detailed in order for the teacher to be fully prepared and be through as if a substitute teacher or another colleague was going to perform this lesson plan. At first, the lesson plan seemed tedious and going to be large commitment. After completing the lesson plan, I learned that every step and component had a purpose
First of all, I would let her know that I am here to help and support her. I would ask her to evaluate her classroom environment, and classroom management; and consider making some changes. Classroom environment plays a big role in a student’ s education. If children feel safe, comfortable, welcome, can express themselves, and enjoy being in you classroom, then they are more likely to have a better learning experience. They will be open to try new things, participate and communicate with the teacher and their peers. As a teacher, all of your students should feel like they are a part of the class; regardless of social economic status, cultures, or disabilities. One way to include all students is to get to know them by having them tell/about
Through the implementation of my lesson, I learned I have to work on the assessment and the details of lesson planning. During the planning of this lesson, the assessment was an aspect that needed more thought. The students had a problem with reading the words for the word sort and understanding the writing section. If I were to reteach the lesson I would add pictures to the words on the word sort to help the students to read and understand the words. In addition, I would include a sentence strip for the assessment that the students could copy but then finish the sentence on their own. The writing prompt was too hard for the students, I received various answers some students copied the prompt only while other students understood it and wrote appropriate answers.
