Humanity has come a long way from our first steps on this Earth with accomplishments such as medicine, industries, factories, etc... Not too long ago though, a new type of method called for developing resources called “synthesization” took the chemistry field by storm with the creations made possible like never before. Certain individuals, such as Percy Lavon Julian, have used the method of synthesization to explore new ways of creating limited or rare resources. Percy Lavon Julian was an African American who, despite being faced with racial prejudice, was able to create synthetic products that people are positively impacted by today because of their availability and low cost. Percy Lavon Julian was not a known name by most people until …show more content…
With Percy as the director of soybean research, he made some of his most memorable inventions that are still in use today. These included aero-foam (used to put out fires), testosterone (male anti-aging), progesterone (prevents abortion for females), and the most impactful of the 4 “Compound S”. Compound S was a synthesization of natural cortisone created because the previous technique of obtaining natural cortisone required the bile of nearly 15,000 oxen (“Percy Lavon Julian,” 1994). Percy Lavon created a world in which African Americans decided to strive for what they believed in and vastly modified the chemistry world with his many inventions. He will always be remembered as a role model for anyone who aspires to do anything. With Julian laboratories, many more individuals are able modify and enhance his
Julian of Norwich was raised up at St. Julian’s church and lived as an anchoress. In 1373, Julian of Norwich received a serious of visions when she was seriously sick and she would write down these visons which became known as the Shewings or Revelations of Divine Love. Julian of Norwich is the most spiritual and blessed person to live in the fourteenth through the beginning of the fifteenth century because she begs three gifts from God, she is constantly praising God for his unconditional love towards everything, and she wants other people to receive God’s grace better than she did. The three points are the most crucial beliefs to prove that Julian of Norwich was the most spiritual and blessed person to have lived in over half of the fourteenth
African American Contributions in Science Throughout American history, many African Americans have been overlooked in the field of science. Some powerful minds and great inventors haven’t been re-introduced to new generations. African Americans have contributed a great deal to the advancements of our country and one of the major fields they have made contributions to is in the field of science. Many successful African Americans have been overshadowed by their Caucasian counterparts.

Giovanni and Aylmer demonstrate manipulation of authority over women in order to pursue their unhealthy infatuation with scientific experimentation. The capability to exercise this desire while controlling another human’s life threatens the Romantic ideal of love for the natural world.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is a novel written by Rick Riordan published in 2004, and was adapted into a movie, released in 2010. Percy Jackson and the lightning thief focuses on Percy Jackson, a 12 year old boy with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia. Percy discovers near the beginning of the story that Greek mythology is all real, and that he is the son of Poseidon, God of the sea and one of the three most powerful gods.
An important event in this book is that Percy Jackson Finds out that he is a demi-god or also known as a half-blood. This important for a few reasons. If he had not found out he was a Demigod he would think he was going crazy. He would not understand what was going on. Plus he would be in danger.
Percy blinked. “So your brother is a winged horse. But you’re also my half brother, which means all the flying horses in the world are my… You know what? Let’s forget it.”
A master and maker in many fields, Linus Pauling lived a very long and productive life spanning nearly the entire twentieth century. By the time he was in his twenties, he had made a name for himself as a scientist. After many significant contributions including his work on the nature of the chemical bond, he turned to chemical biology and is generally accepted as the founder of molecular biology. Later in his life he became very involved in issues of politics and peace for which he is somewhat less well known. In his later years, he became interested in health and medicine and specifically in the use of vitamin C to prevent ailments from the common cold to cancer.
This chemistry book report is focus on a book called “Napoleon's buttons: How 17 molecules changed history” by Penny Le Couteur and Jay Burreson. The publisher of this book is Tarcher Putnam, the book was published in Canada on 2003 with 17 chapters (hey the number match the title of the book!) and a total of 378 pages. The genre of this book is nonfiction. “Napoleon's Buttons” contain a fascinating story of seventeen groups of molecules that have greatly changed the course of history and continuing affect the world we live in today. It also reveal the astonishing chemical connection among some unrelated events, for example: Chemistry caused New Amsterdamers to be renamed New Yorkers and one little accident of detonating cotton apron in a minor housekeeping mishap lead to the development of modern explosives and the founding of the movie industry.
... book to those that have a entrepreneurial drive but also to those entering nearly any field. All fields are changing over time, formulas may stay the same and chemical properties will remain the same but new technologies or ways to get to the answers are always emerging. That is one of the points that this text strives to make, everyone need innovation and it is a skill that takes practice. This text was an easy read that laid out a step-by-step program in changing one’s future perspectives on problems they may combat. Johansson explains each topic in depth so that someone who is just starting from ideation can pick up his book and start to think differently. While also explaining topic ideas in detail there are also cases in each section that help supplement key ideas. These cases show how past companies have succeeded and failed through each stage of the method.

St Jerome in his study is an iconic painting, one of three prints referred to as Durer’s master engravings and it represents the best achievement in adopting two separates methods of painting. An evocative lighting, contemplative surrounding, and a detailed interior make the painting exquisite and remarkable. (Bussagli 2014)A realistic scenario surrounds the saint, including writing material and devotional material gives the saint a persuasive presence. The painter composed the print using rigid mathematical concepts, contributing to an intellectual feeling, spiritual discipline and demonstrated his advanced knowledge. Antonella de Messina was born in Sicily, Italy.
In this expert from the “Lightning Thief,” the author uses Percy’s point of view to achieve his purpose, of creating suspense.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, known for his use of allegory and symbolism, is now one of the most studied authors. He became famous for his novels and short stories that revealed the portrayal he had of the world. His works have been properly recognized for more than a century. Hawthorne’s perspective of life comes from his history that gave him a sense of inherited guilt. Even with the setbacks during his journey to success, Hawthorne managed to surpass them and become the wonderful writer he is known to be.
Synthetic biology, also known as synbio, is a new form of research that began in the year 2000. The Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration (ETC Group) says that synthetic biology is bringing together “engineering and the life sciences in order to design and construct new biological parts, devices and systems that do not currently exist in the natural world’ (Synthetic Biology). Synthetic biology is aiming to create safer medicines, clean energy, and help the environment through synthetically engineered medicines, biofuels, and food. Because synthetic biology has only existed for fourteen years, there is controversy involving its engineering ethics. In this literature review, I am going to summarize and correlate the International Association for Synthetic Biology (IASB) Code of Conduct for Gene Synthesis, the impact of synthetic biology on people and the environment, and the philosophical debates.
