The film Pedal is an exciting journey that takes the viewer into the world of New York City bicycle messengers. From start to finish I was blown away by how well the film was constructed as a whole. Although many documentary films take themselves too seriously, this one in particular took a lighthearted approach that allowed the audience to fully connect with it. This fast paced film truly kept the audience interested in its content, and remain invested with the people they decided to interview on screen. After initially hearing the description of the film, I was ready to tune it out. But upon watching for the first few minutes, I realized that this film wasn’t exactly what I had been expecting. Pleasantly surprised, I continued watching only …show more content…
Overall, this documentary was not what I expected at all and in turn I was impressed with its storyline and structural elements. The main thing that stuck out to me in this film was the filmmaking. The amount of comprehensive camera work was mindblowing. The filmmaker used a combination of complex and simple filming techniques to truly tell and story and captivate the audience. The creator of this film shot most of it himself; often on a skateboard! This first person view of the world of the bike messengers places the audience front and center for all the action. The filmmaker also took advantage of the fish-eye lens in striking ways. Although not always ideal, the fish-eye lens allowed for the camera to capture a full landscape view of downtown New York City. This was an especially bold choice due to the fact that the lens itself made the tall buildings wrap around themselves in a very illusionary way. Although this made the film stand out, I felt like it was used to an unnecessary extent and often fell short. Also, many times throughout the film the shots were overwhelmingly disorienting. However, this ended up being a small price to pay for …show more content…
For starters, the soundtrack completely blew me away. Many films that I have seen seemingly forget about one of the most important elements of films: sound. However this film had a handcrafted original score that enhanced the film ten-fold. The soundtrack itself is very industrial and mechanical sounding. It fit perfectly with the theme of the movie and takes the audience through a journey. The music backs up the films message displaying the thrill and excitement that being a bike messenger can be. The music helped place an emphasis on the chaos and rush that this world is full of. And as a whole, the music helped to further construct the world this story takes place in while helping to emphasize certain themes the filmmaker created. Another element of this film that made it more move-like was the component of the rivals. About halfway through the film, the filmmaker introduced taxi cab drivers and policemen into this already crazy world. Their sole purpose was to show the fight AGAINST bike messengers as well as how dangerous they can be to public safety. Through interviewing these two groups the film was able to transcend to almost an action-thriller in which the bike messengers were part of some sort of vigilante justice group. Personally, I believe that this portion of the film could be sold to hollywood and adapted into a full length feature film. This good vs. evil part of the
The seventies style truck made this movie even more inspiring. Listening to the sixties and seventies music throughout the movie was actually fun. This movie will make you smile, feel like crying and excited all in one setting. It was like you were right there and truly touched you every minute all the way up to end of the movie. Watching a movie that can reach out and grab a hold of you even years after production in October 2003 is truly an amazing production. Looking at this movie with a different way of thinking actually made me realize how much I didn’t notice the first few times I watched it.
The author of the film shows the audience what it is really like on the streets of New York. Also, he lets us into the background of their lives. Most vendors got their occupations due
Overall, the score was beautiful and appropriate, adding suspense and mystery at all the right times. The sound effects added psychological flavor to the story without drawing too much attention to it.
In one particular scene, director was truly a great one, featuring special focus on his dad life and the Colorado River. It was so cool to highlights of the movie by one of his favorite poem written by his dad when he was born, the Important Place. Also, this film was a good length, not excessively long but long enough to tell the story. This is really important today there were no such unwanted scene in the film, which literary the most closely and accurately delivered. In my opinion, this film is forced to possess the characters of a great aspect, and turns to make for quite the adventurous. There was no special character encounter rather than his dad, learned something from the secret Colorado River. Another great aspect of the film was the special footage that were introduce in this film was an enjoyable aspect to be a good documentary film, and that’s how this film is different from the rest.
When I watching this movie, I notice that I felt less separation from the movie. Initially I could not find a reason for that but, soon after I realize that the camera is not static but it wobbling slightly. In most movie, camera does not move and it creates the frame. In the other hand, this movie’s handheld camera type of camera works imitate the human eyesight feeling and make people feels like to experience the event in a movie as a one of the character. In this perspective, do not explain too much about the detail is emphasizing this experience. Consider these things, I really excited and enjoyed couple of scene which are the running through battle field and engaging to the baby. In the every day world, both scene is pretty rare to experience. For the battle field scene, majority of the people have avoiding to be in there so that is rare. The engaging to the baby experience is quite normal event for most people and of course it is grate experience but, in this movie setting, baby is extremely rare and seeing baby is truly miracle event. To emphasize and provide this miracle event, this camera work is perfect to apply.
Baz Luhrmann has done this film in a unique and brilliant way, with help of the above, and of course a great loved story as a base.
I personally believe the film ends on a negative note. The credits eerily force the viewer to relate the

The director Antoine Fuqua vision for this film was to bring that intense love-hate relationship onto the big screen and showcase it for the world to see. To ensure a convincing film setting, Fuqua shot on location in some of the most hardcore neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Fuqua also wanted to show the daily struggles of officers tasked to work in the rougher neighborhoods of cities and how easy it can be to get caught up in a street life filled with killers and drug dealers. Overall the film displayed the city of Los Angeles in a different perspective. One which m...

was a spectacular film there were some things that I did not enjoy like, the
...movie that I fell in love with. But most of all I love how the story line is a great overlap into the cinematically engaging movie. There is a great use of camera, timing, shots and story line that are portrayed in this movie without being too overwhelming. This allows the audience to relax during the movie and just take in the scenes as a story from reality. To this day, and even still doing this paper I still come to find different aspects of the movie that I missed the previous times I have watched it.
Due to the film’s quality and interest it became an award winning film. The film had excellent sound effects such as the battle scenes. The image quality was also outstanding; it used many different angles to depict the actor to make you feel involved in the scenes. In the action scenes the most common viewpoint used was a close up shot which allows the audience to see and feel the intensity of the scene. The second viewpoint mostly used was a tracking shot due to the actors c...
In fact, generally the special. effects are awesome, close to perfection even they also manage to. convey the massive scale of destruction exceptionally well. Without this fantastic leap in visual technology, I think the film would be. utterly dead.
