I am thirteen years old and I am interested in building and designing things. When I was younger, I enjoyed building lego structures with support beams and other things that help keep the structure stable. I mastered the three by three Rubik’s cube and later solved the two by two and four by four. My passions include lacrosse and bass guitar. Lacrosse is mainly an East Coast sport but is slowly rising in California. I play bass guitar for a rock band called Element. Problem-solving is one of my main skills. P.E. is my favorite subject, but science interests me the most. I enjoy all of the physical activity in P.E. and I enjoy all of the experiments and labs in science. Each of these reflects some aspect of my personality or my daily activities. For instance, I am currently learning how to play the piano and other forms of music and enjoy getting feedback; this could be considered a form of Performing Arts, as well as my participation in church and school-based chorus throughout the years. Additionally I combine my love of Visual Arts and Programming to create small video games or mess with websites for fun. As far as Mechanics & Construction go, fixing broken devices around my house before they were thrown away was something that I used to do, but haven’t for awhile. This leaves only one interest area almost completely unused, Office Management. I would consider this a work-based interest, and a lifestyle choice of sorts: I like having things organized and efficient. Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. Although I am a fairly well-rounded student outside of school, I focus on the passions I am adept at: art and music. My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility.
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. I grew up in a household where education was seen as a form of self-improvement and empowerment. Being raised in rural Central California by two Filipino immigrants who had nothing more than a high school education, my family did not have an educated or intellectual history I could look up to. That is, until my mother decided to get a college education at the age of 45. I must have been in middle school at the time, before which the word “college” was never really spoken or talked about and I could honestly say I only had a vague idea of what it even was. Rather than having the traditional sit down talk with my parents about higher education, my mom clearly spoke to me through example. I distinctly remember times where I would be her study buddy, and while doing so, I found myself leisurely enjoying the pages of her science textbooks. Instead of asking her questions related to her upcoming text, I inquisitively asked juvenile questions like, “How do the genes make us?” Today I know that this is a very big and complex question that we are still trying to answer. Yet at that moment, I wanted an answer, but mother did not have the solution, nor did the textbook. That was the birth of my pursuit of scientific career.

Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side.She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.
Since the beginning of my academic endeavors, I have long cherished a dream to be a member of the social science research community, which gives our society progressive insights into human ecology. I began my undergraduate studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey with a passion for ecological justice and with the intention of majoring in environmental studies. Ramapo College’s progressive liberal arts foundation provided me with ample room to explore the multifarious array of social science courses. As I took more social science courses, however, my understanding of human social groups underwent a metamorphosis. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in Social Science, with minors in the two fields I felt most passionately interested in, Women’s Studies and African American Studies.
Creativity is another important part of me. Just as the color blue, Im creative, bold, artistic and imaginative. I can see spot beauty in the most simplistic of things. Whether its the way an artist makes flowers three dimensional or the graidents of shadowing, all thanks to my creative abilities. Im capable of creating things imaginable to other people. I can draw, paint, i can sew. If i put my mind to it, and have the creativity engulfing me, i can create just about anything i set my mind to. For instance, I've won multiple art shows, all before the age fourteen. Getting my working in places like the Dali museum and the Morean arts. Ive created dresses which have been worn in fashion shows. Ive created murals, ranging from 10x15 feet all the way to 45x60
My favorite area of science is definitely Zoology because it has to do with animals and they are my passion.
Academically I am a student who likes to be mentally challenged and I enjoy both hands on projects as well as conventional learning. I am an enthusiastic drama student and I love to act. I also enjoy math and economics. Last year I had many different types of roles in both small and large productions at ASB. I enjoy TOK class as it is often different from other classes but yet as meaningful. It provides you with great insight on many things one does not normally think about.
