Being a college student is already difficult as it is, but being a college student athlete can be tougher and drive more students away from the opportunity. Now a days it is hard enough to get students to join any extracurricular activity because of electronics, drinking and parties. Sports are not a first priority someone would participate in because there is no reward in it or it does not serve them a great purpose in their life, causing it to "waste their time". If there was some kind of goal they could work toward, it may cause more students to join. Rewarding them with paying for school, money or another kind of offer could push someone to join a sport in their college or professional stage.
The first reason to pay student athletes would be for the advertising world. Advertisers who want to spread the word about their product could pay the athletes and players to be in commercials displaying the brand and the company would be able to have them wear the item as well. It would be a bonus for the students because they would receive new gear towards their team and school. They would be getting paid as well for advertising the merchandise and using the money to pay off classes or personal needs such as living spaces or grocery shopping. Paying for college is not easy on the wallet, for example paying for admission, classes, school supplies, textbooks and more could cost over 1,000$-2000$. As well as the students living, whether it was off campus or on campus, could add up quite a bit depending what place you're living in and what kind of school you're going to. Necessities, such as food, water, clothes and hygienic items can add up over time. With all these items needing to be paid for, paying an athlete could give them a chance to live a stress free money
