After finally being able to be her version of white, Pauline starts to become a devout Catholic and starts her journey of becoming a nun. From the beginning of her path to rid her Ojibwe heritage, Pauline decides she wants “to learn the lace-making trade from the nuns” to become diverse in her knowledge of artistry (14). Since Pauline no longer felt attached to her Ojibwe heritage, she veers towards Christianity to guide her through the rest of her journey in becoming a nun. The first thing Pauline wants to do before going to the convent is confronting the lake monster. She talks about how, “(her) fingers closed like hasps of iron, locked on the strong rosary chain, wrenched and twisted the beads close about his neck until his face darkened
and he lunged away. Eventually, it took on the physical form of Napoleon Morrissey (203)”, which makes sense due to the fact that Pauline carries a deep hatred towards him. Napoleon Morrissey happens to be a man Pauline sleeps with during her dark time. After turning to Christianity, she immediately regrets her decision, finding him repulsive and calling him the devil. He manages to have a place in her life whether she wants him to or not. Pauline killing Napoleon symbolizes her letting go of sin. The imagery of this scene gives off the grand idea of Pauline confronting the devil. She lifts a weight from her shoulders and can finally be the woman she wants and can be. Fortunately for Fleur after killing Napoleon, and successfully blaming the act on Fleur, she becomes a nun. She speaks on about how, “(she is) now sanctified, recovered, and about to be married here at the church in our diocese and by our bishop (204)”, which gives off hints of irony. Irony is present due to the fact that in order for Pauline to become a pure symbol for the Lord she has to kill a man. One would say that the statement is symbolic because, in order for her to be completely pure, she had to get rid of all unholy commodities in her life.
One of the most striking characteristics of Pauline Puyat is her devout Catholicism and her desire to be disconnected from the Ojibwa people. Throughout Tracks, she openly chooses Catholicism over her native religion and abandons her native ways almost completely. When Pauline tries to help Fleur prevent a miscarriage, she is literally held back by her conscious separation from the Ojibwa culture.

The main character, Louisa Ellis, lived a life which paralleled both of her pets' lives, her dog Caesar's and her yellow canary. The animals and Louisa are trapped by their captivity, and because they have lived like this for so long, no longer crave freedom. Both Louisa and Caesar live solemn and isolated lives. This is shown when Freeman describes Caesars house as "half hidden among the tall grasses and flowers" (258). Given the setting of where Louisa lives, she is fairly isolated as well. There is only a little road running through "the quiet and unguarded village" (265) which she lives in. Because it is quiet, one can make the conclusion that there is little interactions between the townspeople and Louisa. They fear her dog, for it has bitten once when he was a puppy, and tend to stay away. Freeman does a good job in portraying the solitude among the characters. By showing their day-to-day routine and the setting of the houses and town, it is clear that Louisa is isolated and Caesar is hidden from society.
The “beautiful young woman” began to show her stubborn ways early. According to the reading, Bertrande was concerned more about putting aside her wifely duties than to ruin her reputation and independence (27-28). When Martin abandoned Bertrande, she was left without a defined position in the village social structure. Being the honest women that Coras said she was, Bertrande would not separate from Martin, and under Catholic law she could not remarry unless there was strong proof of death. The values that Bertrande grew up with showed that she never saw herself leaving village customs (32). Though the devastating experience of Martin leaving left her weak and yearning for a husband, she lived “virtuously and honorably” through her “stiff-necked sense of herself and her reputation” (34).
In analyzing this story, there are several other interesting facts that merit further exploration. For instance, throughout the story all references to the little convent girl use black or dark references. But, when plunging to her death, the author describes the little convent girl as a "flutter of white petticoats, a show of white stockings". What is the significance of the sudden color change? Also, Since the reader must assume that the little convent girl is Catholic, what can be concluded about a proper catholic committing suicide?
In life, empty, forsaken, lonely people in dire need of help put their faith toward God or a significant individual. Imagine this you turn on the television, you flip through a few channels and stop on one that shows an elderly lady dressed in a habit talking. You listen for a while and realize that you are actually captivated by what she is saying. Even though Mother Angelica was not born in to a perfect family (she was actually born in to a family that lacked a father and a mentally stable mother) and her childhood was tough, she somehow managed to build what one article calls “the largest religious broadcasting empire in the world” otherwise known as EWTN (McCloskey). She has the ability to captivate her viewers and have them agreeing with what she is saying. Like many girls her age she was taught like many other young girls her age not how to read or write but to sew and spin. but unlike some girls her father was a peasant farmer. At a inferior age of thirteen she had experienced a vision known as a flash of light while hearing an unearthly voice that had enjoined her to be diligent in her religious duties and be modest. soon after at the age fifteen she imagined yet another unearthly voice that told her to go and fight for the Dauphin. She believed the voices she heard were the voices of St. Catherine and St. Margaret and many other people another being St. Michael. She believed they also told her to wear mens attire, cut her hair and pick up her arms. When she first told her confessor she did not believe her. When she tried telling the judges she explained to them how the voices told her it was her divine mission help the dauphin and rescue her country from the English from the darkest periods during the Hundred Years’ War and gain the French Throne. She is till this day one of the most heroic legends in womens history.

This unimaginable tale, is the course of events upon Pi’s journey in the Pacific ocean after the ship that Pi and his family were aboard crashes, leaving him stranded with a tiger named Richard Parker, an orangutan, a zebra, and a hyena. Pi loses everything he has and starts to question why this is happening to him. This is parallel to the story of Job. Job is left with nothing and is experiencing great suffering and he begins to demand answers from God. Both Pi and Job receive no answers, only being left with their faith and trust. To deal with this great suffering Pi begins to describe odd things which begin to get even more unbelievable and ultimately become utterly unrealistic when he reaches the cannibalistic island. Richard Parker’s companionship serves to help Pi through these events. When the reader first is intoduced to Richard Parker he emerges from the water, making this symbolic of the subconscious. Richard Parker is created to embody Pi’s alter ego. Ironically, each of these other animals that Pi is stranded with comes to symbolize another person. The orangutan represents Pi’s mother, the zebra represents the injured sailor, and the hyena represents the cook. Women’s rights in the Catholic Church, generally, are a controversial subject. Many people believe the Church is masculine and excludes women in any leadership rules. The Catholic Church has been around for over two thousand years. The modern world believes the Church is outdated. Jesus Christ lived during a time when women were secluded. It is time, in their thoughts, for the Catholics to change their beliefs to adequate with the contemporary society, some Catholics even deliberate with the idea of change. Pope Paul VI portrayed the Catholic Church in three words, tradition (the practices of the faith), magisterium (God’s Plan) and the Gospels (Jesus’ teachings). It is not the Church’s responsibility to change but to follow what they have been given, the Truth. As more go to the advanced society and the feminist movement continues on, the Church stays with their beliefs on who each of the sexes really are.
I think the reason that the screenwriters and directors decided to make the character of Joan the Arc virile is because of the fact that all the things she accomplished were because of her powerful demeanor and both physical and mental strength. These characteristics are stereotypically given to males and I think that’s why the muscular word virile is so important. The overall feel of the the silent film and the film from 1999 especially seem to portray Joan of Arc as more of a virile character, just through her body character and the way she communicate with people, rather than a more ‘girl power’ character which I personally agree with more. I personally didn’t see a huge differences between the three films in the way that she was portrayed. She seemed to be represented as a powerful and religious
