Patria shows her heroic values through many situations she is put through in her lifetime. She figures out ways to contribute to her family and community to make others lives the best they can be. She just wants everyone to be happy and able to live their life to the fullest. She puts others before herself and insures their well-being and these acts make her feel good about herself. Patria shows qualities of heroism through her bravery, selflessness, and being emotionally strong.
Patria is very brave for many reasons usually involving risk-taking for her husband. For one, when she drove to see him (near the end of the book) risking her life just to see him. She had seen a dead boy influencing her decision on it, she doesn't want more kids to end up dead, nor let their families have to live through that excruciating feeling.
Patria is so emotionally strong. One night, she follows him outside, to see why he was sneaking out of bed, and she witnesses him digging what looked like a little grave. She wanted her baby dug up to see if he has reburied their dead baby in the unconsecrated ground, she enlists campesinos to dig up the grave in the cemetery to check. But when she sees the baby "swarming with ants," "decomposing like any animal," she is horrified and feels herself losing her faith again.
In conclusion Patria is a hero. She signed up for the revolution just to save the children of her country and so much more. She lived a challenging life with many bumps in the road but she got through them all. She is just overall a great person who shows many traits a hero would such as bravery, selflessness, and being emotionally strong. She may not be a hero to all but she qualifies to be one in my
