September’s Pathfinder camp-out had a profound effect on my life because it meant a lot of firsts. It was the first time in the last decade that I spent a night anywhere other than at my parents’ or grandparents’ house. Since I have never been camping before, this was also the first time that I have seen masses of stars. And, thrillingly, it was the first time I almost started a fire. When we arrived at the campground, the first thing the staff did was assign a tent to each Pathfinder – a most cumbersome task. The tent that Mrs. Masha initially selected for me happened to house babblers who planned to chatter all night instead of sleep. So I was transferred to a different tent. It held only one other camper, for her partner had decided to relocate to a more nocturnal abode. The other girl returned the next night, though, so I was sent back to that first tent. The second night was stained by the absence of Mrs. Masha, who had to leave for work. Mrs. Stacy …show more content…
I put on all the clothes I had packed – pajamas, four shirts, and three sweaters. That not only veiled me from the frost but also greatly reduced the mass of my backpack. This time, there were no wandering fifth-graders, so I was left with nothing to do but to roost alone in the bathroom near the heater. After almost an hour, somebody staggered in: a drowsy, agitated Mrs. July. Long story short, I was kicked out of the bathroom and told to start a fire. I suppose this was especially urgent because a few of the Pathfinders had no pants (just shorts) and no sweaters. I hauled the logs into the fireplace and gathered a few damp leaves. Blowing on the hot coals produced a flame that set alight one side of the pile. Then somebody brought a functioning lighter and ignited the other end of the wood. While I was remunerated by being set first in line for breakfast, the poor assistant seemed somewhat

Before taking the StrengthsFinder® assessment I didn’t know what type of leader I was, but I felt I had leadership traits that I could not describe. After answering several questions from the Clifton StrengthsFinder® 2.0, I found out my top five strengths. These strengths consist of individualization, arranger, learner, input and responsibility. The purpose of this paper is to go over my top five strengths to talk about which four domains of leadership these strengths fall under, how class material is applied, and the actions to best utilize my strengths.
...ot always make progress everyday due to the harshness of the trip. On April sixteenth, they start to go from the Base Camp to Camp One, and this is the real beginning of their journey. Shortly after, they leave for Camp Two, and the trip is going well so far. At over 20,000 feet up, a dead body is seen. People are treated for medical conditions at the second camp, and soon need to keep moving up to the third camp. A storm hit during the journey, right before reaching the fourth camp.
There are dozens of benefits that camp graciously gives to campers which influence their daily life including friendships, independence, community, and competence. These universal values and skills are learned at all 7,000 sleepaway camps across the nation, creating more aware, socially conscious, and community oriented children from a young age. The tradition of camp will continue to exist due to the benefits it patently has. Although an adult can be successful without going to sleepaway camp; the exposer camp gives kids at a young age is incredibly beneficial. While camp influences who you become as an adult, it achieves its goal through a magical and memorable experience - something a lifetime camper will recognize and be thankful for as they reach adulthood.
Do you think its fair that players are credited for what they do, when cheating the game? Mark McGwire excelled at the game of baseball and got credit for all of his accomplishments, yet he cheated the game and used steroids. Babe Ruth, considered one of the greatest baseball players to play the game of baseball, who never cheated and set a great example for all who play baseball. Baseball has drastically changed over the years, especially in the cheating scandals of steroids; Babe Ruth set a great example by excelling in the sport and doing it clean, contrasting with Mark McGwire. Their existence shows how society accepted honesty and doing it the clean way in Babe’s era and how society accepts the scandals and dishonesty of Mark’s era.
Area 51 has many names, the official name is Air Force Flight Test Center or AFFTC for short. The government has tried their best to hide this place. No one is really sure what they could be doing there. The public is not sure what types of things Area 51 is testing. The mystery of Area 51 can be summed up in two theories: aliens and secret experimental aircraft testing.
So when we arrived at the camp. First, we had the boring part and pack all the stuff in. After I got everything in I was un packing and found an old magnifying glass. So I got a great idea and dropped everything and ran outside. The idea I got was I am going to make a fire using a magnifying glass. So the first thing I like to do is to find an open spot where the sun hits. Then after I do that I like to pick up all the sticks, but you have to get small dire limbs and a coup leaves at first to get the flames going. Then after that I like to get so bigger brush and build the fire up. Then I take it all back to the spot was I found. Then I get the magnifying glass and get it pointed at the small sticks and leaves. Then I get the ray of the sun and after about twenty minutes I get first flame. Then I added small brush to make it bigger. So that is how you make fire using just a magnifying glass. For now, I am just going to put it out and go do some deer scalding.
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
When the narrator introduced the main character of the story, the man, he made it clear that the man was in a perilous situation involving the elements. The man was faced with weather that was 75 degrees below zero and he was not physically or mentally prepared for survival. London wrote that the cold "did not lead him to meditate upon his frailty as a creature of temperature, and upon man's frailty in general, able only to live within certain narrow limits of heat and cold."(p.1745) At first when the man started his journey to the camp, he felt certain that he could make it back to camp before dinner. As the trip progressed, the man made mistake after mistake that sealed his fate. The man's first mistake was to step into a pool of water and soak his legs to the knees. This blunder forced the man to build a fire to dry his wet socks and shoes so his feet would not freeze and become frostbitten. When the man began to build a fire he failed to notice that he was doing so under a large, snow laden spruce tree where he was getting his firewood. When the man had a small fire that was beginning to smolder the disturbance to the tree caused the snow to tumble to the ground and extinguish the fire. "It was his own fault or, rather, his mistake. He should not have built the fire under the spruce tree. He should have built it in the open."(1750).
It had been a decade since I camped last, and I recalled it being a jam packed, smokey, noisy family campground. I had only been camping in the “real woods” once, and that was literally decades ago - four of them. And now, Wendy, who is a self-proclaimed Queen-of-the-wilderness, introduced a weekend in the interior of Algonquin Park as one of our - Canadian Destinations.

It was our fifth day in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, the halfway point of the trek. I as the Crew Leader was responsible for the other 11 members of the crew, including 4 adults. I was in charge, and amazingly the adults rarely tried to take over, although they would strongly advise me what to do in some situations. Phil, with the exception of me, the oldest scout and the Chaplain for the trip, was my second. Together we dealt with problems of making sure everyone carried the right amount of stuff in their pack to who had to cook and cleanup each day. The trip had gone well so far, no injuries, and the worst problem had been a faulty backpack. As I walked I thought about the upcoming campsite. Supposedly this one had running water from a solar powered pump—so had the last night’s site but the tank was too low to use for anything but cooking because the of how cloudy it had been of late. But today was bright and shinny, and hot, so I didn’t think there would be a problem.
We all grabbed our lawn chairs and cozied up next to the roaring red fire. I always sat a little too close, enough to where the fire burnt a hole straight through my favorite pair of flip-flops, assuring me to never make that mistake again. S’mores was all of our favorite bed time snack time and a perfect way to end the night. Every time I would roast my marshmallow until it became slightly brown, mushy, and not too hot in the center; then I 'd put it between two graham crackers and extra pieces of chocolate. One too many s’mores and a belly like later I laid back in my chair and listened as Nancy told us stories. Before going to bed Nancy told us about her favorite past times here as a child and how just like the little girl we saw fishing, she was also afraid of fishing. She told us stories about how much the campground has evolved since she was a child and how every year she promises to take us here and to keep it a tradition. At bedtime Alicia and I crawl into our tents and snuggle up in our warm sleeping bags. We talked to each other about how sad we felt that it was almost the end of summer, and how nervous we felt to start our freshman year of high school. However, our conversations ended when Nancy yelled at as from the other tent to keep quiet and go to bed. I’d fallen asleep that night to the sound of the fire crackling out and the crickets chirping
