I have grown up to be passionate about zoology, my past experiences make up most of the creative risks in my life. I was always in the deep woods, rapid rivers, and clear lakes looking for whatever I could find, making and adding memories to my life. When I was younger, exploring ponds and streams were the closest places I could go to alone. I would look for tiny creatures like and instantly know what species it was when I spotted. Which made me want to learn more about the habitat I was observing. One of my most recent memorable encounters I had was catching a wild two foot long copperhead at Devil’s Den with nothing but a stick and my hands. The tension I felt holding the venomous snake made it one of most thrilling incidents I have ever

...ms within. I grew up on the lake, so water will and has always been a part of my life. I go to the beach almost every year, so I am frequently involved with the ocean life as well. My dad is a fisherman; he has been to many places and shown me many unique animals he has caught. I feel that it would be the most interesting job to have because there is a huge ocean to explore. Another awesome part of the job would be the idea of always learning new things about the fish. It would never turn into that job that has the same old routine because discoveries are still being made. The only down side to being a marine biologist is constantly smelling like a fish and dealing with the rather large fish that could endanger my life. But every job is going to have a down side, if these two are the only downsides to having this job, then I would have no problem conquering my fear.
This past Easter weekend my family and I went to the lake, and it was the most fun that I have had in awhile. Hyco Lake is actually located in Semora, NC, which is only about fifteen minutes outside of Roxboro. Most of Roxboro and all of Semora is country, so it is not unusual to see animals running wild. We bring our dog along so she can run wild and be one with the other wild animals. When we got to the house the first thing that I did was walk down to the dock to check the water temperature to see if it was warm enough to go swimming. I was about halfway down the driveway when I saw a huge water moccasin laying out in the sun at the bottom of the driveway. Water moccasins are very poisonous, so I know not to mess with them.
David Attenborough’s The Life of Mammals: Meat Eaters and Steve Irwin’s Africa’s Deadliest Snakes are wildlife documentaries that have similar but different purposes. Attenborough uses a script that is rehearsed and the natural environment is followed, Irwin does not have a script and the animals are disturbed. However, both hosts inform the audience of the animal and how they function. Attenborough achieves this through the use of language and Irwin achieves this by being the presenter. Purpose, audience, context, language and form will be compared between the two texts.

Do you love animals and science? Maybe the right profession for you is veterinary medicine! Some important things you need to know if you are interested in becoming a vet are schooling, the different types of vets, and the logistics of being a vet.
My dream career would be becoming a Marine Biologist. I traveled a lot when I was younger and still continue to. Which is what started to lead me to wanting to be in this career. Another aspect being put into this is I joined swim at a very young age and have always loved water. One of the final aspects is I love animals, especially marine animals. I have always thought that they were the most in danger, they cannot speak out for themselves or show any actions to stop in. They aren’t easily seen to the public eye and a large number is still undiscovered. So they are easily overlooked and even if they are being mistreated no one can see so most don’t care. So I thought why not find a career that can help them, interacting, collecting data,
Who would you trust about your new pet, the veterinarian or the hobbyist? With contact to the vast amount of info on the internet, I decided to discover that for myself. I will be researching the basic care of the “Axolotl”, an aquatic salamander.. In my exploration, I came across two distinct websites on the same topic concerning amphibians. The authors of both sites are individually deemed front-runners in their field of care. Our authors are Dr. Lianne McLeod, a veterinarian, and John Clare a hobbyist/breeder. Both of which I will relate and contrast. When it comes to the direct care of an uncommon pet, I believe it’s best to go with a qualified expert.
Hello everyone, I’m Christopher Segovia! My extra-curricular activities involve of training and hunting with wild caught Hawks and Falcons, training Homing Pigeons, and raising various species of reptiles. The person who has influenced my life would be the late Steve Irwin, he brought out my sense of adventure as well as exposing the truth and wonders of the animals that inhabit our planet, with this being said he made it very clear that extinction is a very vast and ever growing problem with in world today; since the airing of his show and since I was of age to truly understand his message it has been my goal and dream to bring awareness as well as a stop to the rapidly growing epidemic of animals facing extinction. My future plans consist
The Eastern Indigo Snake has had a population decline caused by habitat loss, over-collecting for the pet trade, and the mortality from gassing gopher tortoise burrows to collect rattlesnakes. Humans pose as the greatest threat to the Eastern Indigo Snakes. The appropriate habitat is destroyed during many roadway and housing constructions, as well as logging and agricultural activities.
When the average person thinks about zoology, they usually think about a zoo and or animals. As said in General Zoology, many questions come with this topic. “What is life? In what ways are the various kinds of animals alike or unlike in structure, internal processes, and modes of life? How do animals carry on their activities? How are the many kinds related to one another? In what ways does man resemble and differ from other living things? The answers to many of these questions are provided by the science of zoology.” (General Zoology, page 3). While zoology does involve animals, the general study of zoology is far more complicated then one would imagine. Zoology is a branch of biology that studies the classification, origins, habitats and behaviors of organisms. Someone who studies zoology is a zoologist, and has the tasks of learning about new species and their habitats. It is a job that if mastered, can be one of the most fulfilling and knowledgeable careers someone can obtain.
Nature is beautiful in every way. This past summer I flew out to Miami and took a cruise out to the Bahamas. On the way there, I was sitting out on the balcony from my room on the ship. While I was sitting there, I saw the most awesome thing ever!I saw a pack of Dolphins jumping in and out of the water,”Wow”I said. This made me grin so much that you could see all my teeth. My Father, was with me watching and he was amazed as well.
When I was younger, my father was an avid diver, going out on the dive boat every weekend possible to take photographs while dragging my mother and I along for the ride. I was not one to complain though, because it meant going to the beach just about every weekend during prime diving season. The photographs that he took under water are what truly inspired me to hopefully get involved into marine sciences. The photographs were captivating; the different shades of blue and the variety of colors emitting from the various organisms captured within the photo were simply breathtaking. I did not understand how anyone could look away from them, and I still do not understand how people can look away from such photos. They allowed for me to see part of the organisms that lived under water; giving me a glimpse into another world, and into a world I only wanted to explore for my own
Passion for Family, Community, Business, Technology and Intellectual growth are what motivate me on the daily basis. These are vital parts that have contributed to framing me into the person I’ve become. They have also shaped my short-term and long-term goals in life. It’s critical for one to have a vision for their life and what they anticipate to accomplish. Without a vision or desire there is no hope for one to continue and to purse anything. My experiences with in my passions have helped me aligned my vision for my life. They have given me the valuable knowledge that have set me up for success to get to this point in life.
Capable of accomplishing anything, my five-year-old self set out on a mission during the summer of 1996. Eager to begin my excursion, I woke up that morning and could not wait to get outside. “Today’s the day I’m going to prove to my brothers that I’m just as sneaky and fast as they are”, I said to myself. Each year, my brothers would always go outside and catch lizards (also known as Skinks), frogs, snakes, etc. all throughout the summer, but this year it’s my turn. Scoping out the best “lizard” places for weeks had finally built up my confidence enough that I finally felt ready for some action. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this day would soon be remembered and told throughout my family for years to come.
