My mother's hands glided up the black and white keys with such ease as I, just a little girl, sat there and watched in awe. I saw how piano had shaped my mother's life, and later, I realized piano had become my piano teacher's lifestyle. At age seven I must have finally been deemed worthy of piano lessons. I took lessons in a little farm house in the middle of nowhere for thirty minutes a week. Although little, I still managed to show my passion for piano through constant practice and my courage through performance. Piano and all music in general, had always been a safe haven for me. As I grew older I realized music would remain to be a big part of my life. My musical abilities continued to grow by learning new instruments. My personality continued to grow because of the great people I met and would always consider my best companions. Any performance big or small is always a huge deal. Before piano came into the picture I, a shy girl, had never once gotten up and preformed anything in front of a crowd larger than three people. Although frightened, practically being forced into performance by my mom gave me courage. My nerves still do not always remain calm, but they have been trained to at least make me seem composed. Courage was then used in not only my musical career but in my social life. I had courage to talk to anyone, courage to be myself. Piano has also given me the ability to fly by the seat of my pants. On numerous occasions I have been asked to play a piece on short notice. The task seems a little gut wrenching and frustrating, but I still manage to play a piece excellently, given my short amount of preparation time. I have learned to take things day by day and maybe even hour by hour. Staying calm, flexible , and courageous has helped me in my piano experiences and life
