This essay discloses the positive effects of sporting activities on academic performance; and how it can help positively improve the mental concept of both non -partaking and partaking students. The first paragraph would mainly review on how sporting activities can play a good role in the personal life of students, the subsequent paragraphs would talk on, how participation in sports activities can create a unique unity among students in the form of team work and how sports can positively impact the future of college student. There then be a paragraph which would then talk about the negative effects of sports on the life of students. In the last two paragraphs would be the evaluation and conclusion of the essay. To begin Students that participate in extracurricular activities have reduced behaviour problems. In sports, they show discipline in drills, practices, and routines. They have a responsibility to perform those tasks correctly, whether it is basketball of football plays, dance routines, or signals in baseball. When students perform these things correctly they are rewarded for their good behaviour and they take pride in their accomplishments. Because of the pride they achieve, they gain better self respect, self esteem, and self confidence. Athletics in American schools have always been controversial for many reasons. Some of these reasons include health concerns, safety precautions, and academic significance. Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt wrote an article titled, “High-School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” to present the factors of positive correlation between success in athletics and academics. I believe that athletics in high schools not only benefit students socially, but also academically.
High school sports are approached with clashing opinions. Some of these opinions are positive, and supportive of athletics. “Athleticism, among many activities, offers teens a physical outlet to exert their troubles, anger, emotions, and other feelings” (Chen 1). This can be observed in nearly all of the football players in Friday Night Lights. This can also be noticed in the world today. “Athletics help high school students understand their own abilities and talents” (Chen 1). This piece of evidence is very accurate when describing high school athletes. Sports can make a high school student humble. As can be seen by the preceding information, high school athletics can have a positive impact on a student’s life.
Who’s smarter at chess - computers or humans? Chess is all about ultimate way of thinking, which puts it on a same level as an extreme sport. In the eighteenth century, Wolfgang von Kempelen caused a stir with his clockwork Mechanical Turk—an automaton that played an eerily good game of chess, even beating Napoleon Bonaparte.CLIVE THOMPSON is a freelance journalist and blogger who writes for the New York Times Magazine and Wired. He blogs at collisiondetection.net. This essay is adapted from his book, Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better (2013). A writer for Scientific American fretted that the inventor "Would Substitute Machinery for the Human Mind." Eighty years later, in 1997, this intellectual
While this is not completely true, sports develop people in many ways still, some people say that “sports make me what I am today.” While it is impossible to prove exactly the way each individual takes in sports, it is seen that overall it has some positive effect. Sports are a tool of development and instead of it being a choice between sports and academics, the real answer is both and that they work together to constantly develop quality generations of people. Though problems exist, the true qualities of sports maintain the role they have in developing young ones.
He is the author of many books including Sport, Play, and Ethical Reflection and the coauthor, with Craig Clifford, of Sport and Character: Reclaiming the Principles of Sportsmanship. In his book Sport, Philosophy, and Good lives professor Feezell’s research question is if it seems plausible to think of sports activities as meaningful and to believe that such activities contribute to a meaningful lives. In addition, the primary method utilized in this research consisted of many document analysis about many top athletes’ lives. In the research, professor Feezel found out that competition has a bigger essence of seeking to become good than rather the actual activity. In fact, in a deeper level, competition is the reference in the way the athlete’s identity is fixed in relation in how good they did. In other words, sport affect directly an athlete’s self-esteem which created a meaning in their lives. In fact, professor Feezell’s work is related to professor Pelling’s work in many ways. Both of them talked about how important is to an athlete to win a competition. They stated that how well they did in a competition can impact their lives. This work is relevant to the topic of why sports are important to college students because how good they are go directly to how the personal
Very important audience is teachers, who are dealing directly with young athletes. Filling out questionnaires, spending additional time and extending assignments due dates for most athlete students. These procedures show us great concern from academic department. Through years teachers have developed different views and opinions for these special students. Some teachers are working closely with athletes, giving them special treatment. Others are handling them as regular students. Petrie is trying to reach those teachers, who treat students differently and on individual basis. The treatment varies because some of students enrolled in their classes are seen as school’s sports stars, which will bring fame and good reputation to that school. Those teachers see that as an advantage to them also, because it might benefit them directly; possible increase in salary and popularity. Teachers have to realize that their so-called help, will benefit young athletes in academic education. Professors need to be aware that some of their students may become victims, because as the authority they do not see how their help may affect future of alumni.
Literature has shown there is a constructive correlation between an individuals socioeconomic status (SES) and their participation in sporting activities. This piece of writing will be defining the impact social class division has on the opportunities for an individual to participate in sport and leisure activities. Also the key aspects of the social class system within the United Kingdom, from the traditional methods of social stratification, to the modern 7 class system released in 2013 by the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC). The term 'Social Class' or 'Socioeconomic Groups' , refer to an individuals status within society. There are various factors which determine an individual's status, such as; income, family background and educational experiences. This socioeconomic status can be seen as a status hierarchy in which three main common social classes are informally accepted in the majority of societies: Upper Class, Middle Class and Working Class (Wesson et al, 2000).
As stated in my introductory paragraphs, both authors examine the academic motivation of student athletes, but focus their arguments on different aspects. Since both authors agree on the fact that athletics make big impacts, it makes it harder to choose one argument over the other. Both Flynn and Herbert D. Simon’s have similar ideas in which they discuss, but they add their own opinions. Both authors have a strong agreement but the way they present their ideas are completely diverse.
On the surface, basketball has a number of impacts on young people. For instance, the boys and girls who participate in basketball learn certain positive character traits. There is evidence to suggest that because of participation, they have a better attendance in school, better grades associated with good behavior in school, and less trouble and rarer discipline issues. In addition, students also have better citizenship in school as well as the community, and an upward mobility orientation like joining college later on in life.
It is apparent why both school A and B provide extra-curricular activities for their pupils to attend and how important this may be in improving pupil’s performance. Both schools offer a wide variety of activities (Appendix), but are very different in delivery.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life”. This well-known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some rules and customs. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing sports which give some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sport is healthy because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
