Which parenting style describes how you were raised? (chapter 9) Diana Baumrind’s theory on parenting was defined by four different types. The types are, authoritative style, authoritarian style, permissive style, and uninvolved style. My parents have an authoritative style. Authoritative is when the parents give certain limits and restrictions but keep it to a minimum and are usually pretty reasonable, providing reasoning for their decisions. This type of parenting style expresses tenderness and warmth. When the rules come into conflict with something, authoritative parents bend the rule more often than other types of parents. My parents set rules and restrictions on where I go, and how late I stay out. Since I am still in highschool …show more content…
So for the sake of patients and nurses it's crucial to have an understanding of psychology and psychological disorders. Once able to recognize your own mental state, it's important to know how to address it. Psychology, it the study of behavior and the mind. If nurses have a concrete foundation in psychology they’ll be able to address their own issue and their patients more adequately. https://www.ameritech.edu/blog/facts-mental-health-nursing/ What do psychiatric-mental health nurses (PMHN) do? This article talks about being a nurse specified in the field of psychology. Being a PHMN sounds very similar to being a clinical psychologist. It lets you talk, diagnose, and treat patients. Nurses are going to have a deeper understanding a patient's physiological functions whereas a clinical psychologist would have a deeper understanding of psychology. PHMN is a field that addresses mental disabilities and disorders, rather than use psychotherapy. They can use psychotherapy, but it seems more focused around diagnosing and treating. Psychologist cannot prescribe medicine, and they two different field differ in the educational foundation. One is based solely in psychology the other in nursing.
According to Study.com (2003-2017), a Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice Registered Nurse who has more responsibilities. Nurse Practitioners prescribe medication, examine patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment for the sick or diseased. The Typical things they do or the typical activities they do depend on what work category the Nurse Practitioner is in, Some order diagnostic testing, view results, while some act as a Primary Caregiver when a Doctor is not around or available, while others keep up with
A registered nurse (RN) is someone that went through a university or college and studied nursing; and then passed the national licensing exam to obtain a license to practice nursing. The degree earned by an RN at the need of the program is deemed a professional nursing degree. The RN top nursing staff and they usually works independently. On the hand, an LPN only earns a practical nursing degree after completion of the program. LPNs are mostly recognized only in USA and Canada; they are also named as License Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of California and Texas. LPN work under the supervisor of an RN or a physician.
A nurse practitioner (NP) is one who is qualified to treat certain medical conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor. Also known as a registered nurse. (RN)
Many nurse practitioners specialize in different fields. One might specialize in becoming a Geriatric nurse practitioner. A geriatric nurse will design workout programs for recovering patients, and might also act as a counselor to elderly patients. Another field that someone could go into would to become an oncology nurse practitioner. An oncology nurse usually works with the cancer patients. They conduct checkups, and record the process of the patient. A psychiatric nurse practitioner is a popular field that a nurse might go into. Psychiatric nurse practitioners tend to hold a higher level of education, like a PhD. They act as a therapist to troubled patients, and can also prescribe appropriate medication. Psychiatric nurse practitioners, act more like a counselor to the patients that need someone to talk to, than a doctor. A pediatric nurse practitioner is also another popular field that one might go into. Pediatric Nurses work with children, and alongside the main doctor. Pediatric Nurses are allowed to make important decisions without a doctor inv...
Define Nursing Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nurses who have received graduate-level nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Some nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician while others run their own practices.
Nurse practitioners have not necessarily more but different responsibilities than those that are held by registered nurses. NPs have more freedom to make and oversee the carrying out of health care plans for patients. NPs are also able to follow guide lines more closely to those of a physician. Registered nurses (RNs) are able to advise and aide less skilled medical personnel. They are also able to order, examine, and explain different diagnostic tests as directed by a physician. All nurses have the responsibility to monitor and chart the conditions treatments and reactions of the patients. Nurse Practitioners are able to perform all these responsibilities along with many others not granted to less trained
To begin with, of the four Baumrind’s parenting styles, authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and disengaged, I chose authoritative. Authoritative parenting has a high level of demandingness while at the same time exerts the same amount of responsiveness leading to a child who is independent, creative, well-balanced, and leads a relatively social lifestyle. I feel that laying down rules and expectations for a child gives them the guidance they need at a young age or they will be left to guide themselves blindly leading to irresponsibility, impulsiveness, and a tendency to engage in substance use. Equally important is a parent needs to warm, attentive, and not only say they love their children but express through actions and understanding as well (Arnett, 2016).
According to AANP, a Nurse Practitioners job is to provide and coordinate care for patients as well as prescribe medications or treatments. (AANP) They are specialized in acute care to long term health care. NP’s provide care to a patient age span of premature babies to the elderly providing treatment for their specific need. NP’s are to manage blood pressure, provide immunizations, prescribe treatments, order lab tests and inform the patient of how to live a healthier and better quality of life according to their specific health needs.
I have thoroughly enjoyed nursing to this date, and I see nursing as more of a purpose than a career choice and feel privileged to have been able to succeed in it. However, various events and situations in my career and life have strongly persuaded me that I would be most useful to the community if I were to become a specialist in psychiatric mental health nursing. Before my current practice I would of never considered adopting mental health as a speciality although I enjoyed my psychiatric rotation during training. However, since working in my current practice I have seen that the mental health community is underserved and this is heartbreaking to me. Many patients who need assistant and care
Clinical psychologists can treat a wide range of patients, from mental disorders to emotional problems. To get an easier and simpler idea of what a clinical psychologist does, Ferguson's Career Guidance Center's definition gives a good picture of a clinical psychologist’s job description, “Clinical psychologists concern themselves with people's mental and emotional disorders. They assess and treat problems ranging from normal psychological crises, such as adolescent rebellion or middle-age loss of self-esteem, to extreme conditions, such as severe depression and schizophrenia.”According to Careers in Psychology, a clinical psychologist has three main jobs, to assess the patient, diagnose disorders, and recommend a possible treatment. When a clinical psychologist assesses a patient it usually involv...
Psychology is concerned with understanding, evaluating, alleviating, and preventing mental and emotional disorders and promoting human adaptation, adjustment, and personal effectiveness and satisfaction. Psychologists address the intellectual, emotional biological, psychological, social, and the many different behavioral aspects of human functioning across the lifespan, varying cultures, and all socioeconomic levels of humans. Psychology is an absolute science that creates research efforts to find and confirm data about what people are like and why they behave the way they do. Psychology is also a professional practice that provides health care services. Psychology is a merge of science and practice pursuits. The essence of psychology
Nancy Darling reports succinct definitions, originally from Baumrind, of each of the categories in her article “Parenting Styles and Its Correlates” (1999). Permissive: “More responsive than they are demanding”. Lastly, the Authoritative, they are the style in between. These parents understand that there needs to be a balance between structure and support.
The word psychology can translate to mean “the science of the soul.” Since Aristotle, psychology has become both a science and a profession. As a profession, it is the application of understanding people and their behavior to help solve human problems (Careers, 1993). A psychologist usually concentrates on one specialty that is of particular interest. There are many different fields of psychology to study. Clinical psychologists work with people with emotional and mental problems (Career Discovery, 1997).
Ever since I was in middle school I was fascinated by the world of psychology. The thought of being able to get into someone’s mind by merely speaking them through it intrigued me terribly and I was just so amazed by all of the different areas of it I didn’t know for a couple of years what I wanted to do in that field specifically, but I knew I was meant to be a psychologist of some sorts. I knew I was meant to help people with their mental issues and illnesses in the way I was helped which eventually led me to clinical psychology. “Clinical psychology is the branch of psychology concerned with the assessment and treatment of mental illness, abnormal behavior and psychiatric problems.” (Cherry, Kendra. "Clinical Psychology - What Is Clinical Psychology”) To sum it up, a clinical psychologist is someone who diagnoses people to help them find out what issue they have mentally; like how a doctor would diagnose a patient with a physical disease I would be helping a patient with their mental ailment. To do this I will have to go through many years of schooling but I know in the end it will be worth it if I can have a worthwhile career such as this one.
There are four main types of parenting style. This includes (1) authoritative, (2) authoritarian, (3) indulgent, and (4) neglectful parenting. Authoritative parenting is a type of parenting style which is both demanding and responsive. It is often referred to as assertive democratic primarily because the parents encourage their child to be independent, but at the same time, they tend to place limits as well a...
