Mass media has many opinions and advice about parenting. With new technologies and ideals, it can be said that there is no one right way to parent. Mothering Magazine was founded in 1976. Now, Mothering.com is one of the largest online sources for people and parents seeking the most natural and conscientious living environment. The website seeks to provide advice, inspiration, and perspective to empower parents to make educated decisions for their families. Jack P. Shonkoff, Director of the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, “The need for time to form secure attachments is critically important. It’s one of the most important things you can do to build a foundation for a lifetime of healthy development.” He states how important it is for bonds to be established between parents and their new children. “Babies need a sense of safety, predictability and responsiveness. We know from research that all areas of development – whether it’s cognitive development, emotional –well being or social development – has its foundation in this secure relationships.” He goes on to criticize our societies lack of support of new parents. The article commends parents for their ability to find solutions to this lack of support from society. They remind readers to pay attention to candidates that have understanding and compassion for young children and babies. Comparing what articles recommend and the teachings in class, both show support for early parent-child connections. Advocating for the rights of parents to take leave to raise their new children. Creating a secure attachment is vital in ensuring positive development in young children. Popular press is doing a good job of providing valid information to parents. In modern days, people are quick to judge and correct those who will give out false information. This is a result of the addition of comment sections for reader feed back giving people more of a say in what is told to other consumers. In addition, professionals and other refutable sources can be found, quoted within the article its self. The intent of the author is congruent with the mission of the website, to provide the best information for the sake of the children.
