We decided to go to Panama City for spring break. Jamie and Sarah, my roommates in college, organized the entire trip. I loved the beach. It was the most relaxing place to go. The sun warming my skin, hearing the waves crash down on the sand, and feeling the cool ocean breeze could cure anything. It was so close, only two more hours until we got to the hotel. When we got to our room, there was an oceanfront view with a balcony. We all went out to stand on the balcony, and although it was a beautiful view, all I could think about was how high up we were. I quickly went back inside, mad at myself for having a fear of heights. “Jasmine, what are you doing?” Sarah asked me when she noticed me back away from the balcony. I panicked and didn’t …show more content…
“Today is the day! We are going skydiving!” She said eagerly. Oh no, this can't be happening. I hate heights, let alone falling from the sky! I don’t know what to do. I can’t back out, they would be so upset. They don't even know that I have acrophobia. I guess that's what I get for not telling them about it before now. I barely had time to worry and stress out about going, because Jamie was pushing me put the door to the car. There is no turning around now. About thirty minutes later, we are still driving. There is no ocean in sight, and they view through the car window looks like a run down town. When we arrive at the skydiving place, my heart dropped to my stomach. The building was crumbling is certain places, and vines were growing up it. The doors were rusted and the lady at the front desk was smoking a cigarette and ignored us. “Ma’am?” Jamie said hesitantly. “I called a few days ago to book a skydiving trip.” The lady turns around with a nasty look on her face, “Yeah, yeah. Here, fill out these forms.” She threw the papers at Jamie and turned away. We went to sit down and I noticed the chairs had the cushions coming out of them and the carpet was all stained. The ceiling was cracken and a buck was beneath it on the floor to catch the dripping water. The entire place smelled like cigarette
Have you ever wondered why both the Panama Canal and the Great Wall of China are such iconic land marks for the countries they are in? It’s because of the magnitude of effort that took to create such massive structures. Hard work, blood, tears, sweat and certainly patience played part in the creation of such marvels. However the purpose behind each structure and the challenges builders faced during their construction is what truly sets them apart.
Filban said the home had a yard that was overgrown. “The trees and bushes were overgrown, and the house was dark,” Filban said. “And the windows were covered.” She and her sister slept in the front bedroom of the house. She remembers the bedroom having a large, floor-to-ceiling window. She said you could look out and see the wra...
The History of the Panama Canal The Panama Canal is called the big ditch, the bridge between two continents, and the greatest shortcut in the world. When it was finally finished in 1914, the 51-mile waterway cut off over 7,900 miles of the distance between New York and San Francisco, and changed the face of the industrialized world ("Panama Canal"). This Canal is not the longest, the widest, the deepest, or the oldest canal in the world, but it is the only canal to connect two oceans, and still today is the greatest man-made waterway in the world ("Panama Canal Connects). Ferdinand de Lesseps, who played a large role in building the Suez Canal in 1869 (Jones), was the director of the Compagnie Universelle Du Canal Interoceanique de Panama ("Historical Overview").
This one morning while we were all on vacation at Panama City beach, we all woke up at the right time. We saw some dolphins passing by our window and it was so awesome. We watched them pass until we couldn’t see them anymore. Since we were all crowed up around each other I figured it would be a good time to tell my family the plans that I have for the day ahead. I told them that I wanted to go to the pool and so we went to our amazing hotel pool. I was too short to stand anywhere other than the 3-foot area, so when I wanted to go anywhere else I could touch the ground. The pool had these amazing water slides but I was too short to ride on them. I could ride on the smaller one, it went so fast!
For spring break of 2011, my family decided to go to California on vacation. Matthew served his mission there, and he wanted to show us Southern California. Of course, since the closest we had ever been to a beach was Jefferson Lake in Rigby, the first thing we set out to do upon landing in Los Angeles was locate a beach on the ocean. We parked our rental van at Manhattan Beach and ran to the clear water.
The culture and political structures of Panama as we know it today has evolved from an incredibly diverse and interesting history. Geographically, Panama lies on an isthmus, a strip of land that essentially connects the greater landmasses of North and South America. It is believed that volcanic activity in the late Pliocene era closed the former Central American Seaway that had separated the two continents. The climatic implications of this landform are incredible, allowing for the redistribution of oceanic currents and the formation of the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic of today.
I took a trip to Colorado In July of 2015 it was the best week of my life. The best part of that week was the day that I got to spend in rocky mountain national park. It was a great experience with beautiful scenery and wildlife everywhere you looked. This trip changed everything I thought about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do when I am finished with my schooling.
I have taken many vacations over the years I have been to Illinois, Kentucky, Texas, and I have also gone to Florida many times. The most recent vacation was when I went to Florida for my senior spring break, with my grandma Linda. We drove all the way there and all the way back, while we were in Florida we stayed with my aunt Fran’s house in Bonita Springs.

As we walked to our car, we realized just how much the day had taken out of us physically. We were both bruised and sore from our practice jumps into the gravel pit and very tired. But, at the same time, our souls felt warm and satisfied at discovering that we could overcome our fears and experience the joy and freedom of skydiving.

Ch. 1 - Anatomy of a failed project: the first Panama Canal project The first Panama Canal project failed due to numerus reasons, lack of good project and risk management contributed a great deal to the negative outcome. Due to negligible investment in project management aided significantly in the decision to move forward with the project which directly resulted in large project issues leading to its ultimate failure. An International Congress sponsored by Ferdinand de Lesseps was created to study the practicability of a canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through Central America.
She was inspired by another friend who recently had a skydiving, a real one. "It is impressive to give yourself a birthday gift like this", she said "you will never forget it". Then she asked me if I were willing to do this with her. I said "Ok, I will go with you, but I am not ready to jump yet." Even though I was still looking forward to having some experiences like that, my inner fear of extreme sports cannot be eliminated. The skydiving center was very popular at that time for the sunny weather. Sunny had to make a reservation for herself on the next coming Monday. 10.A.M. She tried to persuade me to jump with her when we were waiting for this event to come, "it should be more exciting than roller coaster, I am sure you will be safe. We can get on the plane together if you make a reservation now. It should be on time.". To be honest I was moved and even tried to call and made a reservation, but fear eventually pull me back. What if the parachute cannot be opened, and what if something else
PANAMA, lots of thoughts go through my mind as I hear the name of the country that saw me grow up. This country in the middle of Latin America and the love I feel towards it have been a great part of my life. Even though Panama is small fills a huge space in my heart because it has given me, and continues to give me shelter and a place to grow and develop in, sustenance, joy, a safe home, but most importantly, it gives me LIFE. Sadly, in the past years, my valuable and so loved country started to decay when the rich and powerful people “in charge” made bad economical and political decisions, which cost Panamanians its integrity. People from different countries around the world don’t even look at my country the same anymore and me, and my community, as people who have been held in Panama’s comforting arms should not accept to be subject of mockery and pity.
