Being in this pace course has really been an amazing experience for me. The best thing that happened to me in this pace course was that I got to work with an amazing group of people. During this pace course experience, I got a chance to grow more as a person and I also got my motivation back as well. While working my group, there were times when I wanted to give up on myself. I say this because it would be sometimes hard for me to come up with new ideas that would work for the group and our product. I wanted everything to flow well and make sure that as a group we were not only putting our all into it but making sure that we were being able to make a difference. Since the beginning of the semester, the pace experience has really inspired me to become an advocate for these people. Even though my career goal is to teach psychology at the high school level, I still would like to do some work in the counseling field because I love helping people. I want to be able to save people’s lives and help them realize that they’re not along and life will be much better for them. The knowledge and service activity from this class can also help me reach my long term goals are by pushing me to go after more career opportunities. There’s so much that I want to be able to do in my career, and I want to be able to have a chance to not only evolve but also become more successful and leave a positive impact that people will remember me by. Standing at the starting line of the full marathon I felt anxious and nervous. Not only was I excited to accomplish this goal, but also I was nervous about the difficulty of this task. However, when I crossed the finish line and accomplished this goal, I realized that a new and possibly more difficult goal was about to start. This goal was not only to complete Physician Assistant School but it was to strive to excel in a career as a Physician Assistant in a rural primary care setting. Driven by my intrinsic personal traits of leadership, compassion, and commitment, I am motivated to achieve this goal of excelling in my career as a Physician Assistant.
I genuinely believe that peer interaction is a vital component in the development of academics as well as character in which I have the skill set and experience to do so. Growing up in a diverse and culturally rich community exposed me to various personalities and constructed me to undergo everything with an open mind. My unique background will expand the boundaries of the Honors Program with the incorporation of my personal experiences. With my strong work ethic and my willingness to explore a vast scope of courses, I can be an integral influencer in peer-to-peer learning environments. My preparation for every course beforehand assures my ability to participate and contribute during each class. I am always on top of my workload which proves that I would be an active student in classroom discussions and have thorough development in my research opportunities. I will be the thermostat in this program by setting the emotional and personal climate and setting examples for other students with a vision that we will all strive for the extra mile inside and out of the classroom. My passion to learn and the dedication I hold to my studies exemplify the type of student needed in this program. Tiffany is an associates of the arts major, and was born on a military base in Little Rock, AR but grew up in Beebe Arkansas. One of her favorite hobbies is spending time with her family. She sees spending time with her family as peace time and time to unwind. Another one of her hobbies is participating in a worldwide group that helps people with anxiety and depression. Speaking to Tiffany, she explains that she loves helping people that can’t really find the courage or drive to help themselves. Her hobbies actually shape a lot of her accomplishments also. Tiffany received a flag of honor for saving a classmates life in 2012. This was one of the accomplishments that she still thinks about everyday as she still grows as a person. She also finished all four years of JROTC in high school. Tiffany explained she learned a lot of discipline and self-respect by finishing the program in high school. The last accomplishment tiffany achieved was finishing high school and getting her diploma. She plans one growing and being a better person every day; and getting her diploma and now attending school she feels like she is doing that. Tiffany main goal is to get her degree from National Park and transfer to Henderson. She knows she can accomplish this goal if she stays motivated and keep her eye on the real prize. My extracurricular and academic activities have helped mold me into a person with character and good qualities. These qualities--respect, humility, kindness, ambition, appreciation for diversity and collaboration, and courage--have not come without valuable failures and lessons. I can continue to develop these qualities and build upon these lessons as I go forward with my university goals and the desire I have to enter the healthcare profession as a nurse. I am able to look beyond the exciting, glamorous parts of both and see that there will be lots of hard work and difficulty. I am ready to face those challenges and do my best and give my all.
Individuals’ perceptions of their life/worth have the power to control the goals that they can carry out and meet. Every day we are learning new things and everyone has his/her own unique ways of learning. Choosing a career is a very important aspect to people’s lives. One goes to college, usually around the age of eighteen, and by the time they leave they are expected to have decided on the career that they will have for the rest of their lives. Being a psychology and interpersonal communication major, I have always had an interest on relationships between individuals given certain stimuli presented to them. I want to have the ability to touch people’s lives by helping them understand themselves and why they behave the way in which they behave. Relationships are such an important aspect to the process of human growth, and they impact each and every one of us. Due to this assessment of myself, I have decided to go to college to pursue my goals of being a clinical social worker.
Every day I see C.R.I.S.P. in the hallways and classrooms, not only on the walls, but among my fellow students. Everyone wants to help each other out, because that’s the way we work here. Everyone tries hard to do their best and be the best person they can be. Looking back on my three years at Twin Cities Academy, I find myself wondering how all these years came and went so fast. I still watch myself walking through the same halls and sitting in the same classrooms as I did back in 6th and 7th grade, and I’ve seen myself grow so much, mentally, socially and physically.
During the past three years of college, my interest in counseling has been affirmed through a variety of experiences. One important experience that influenced my decision to pursue a career as a school counselor was my involvement in my community service sorority, Chi Delta Alpha. Through Chi Delta Alpha, I volunteered on several occasions, among them I babysat children to provide parents with a night off; I was responsible for a group of elementary students as they experienced college classes and I painted a caboose for a local playground. A theme that has remained constant throughout all my different experiences is that making a difference in a person’s life is a rewarding experience, and I know that I desire a career that enables me to support high school students as they face difficult situations.
My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. Reflecting back, this program has enriched my professional career, knowledge, and perspective of nursing in various ways. I believe I have developed advanced critical thinking and analytical skills, high EI based on learned knowledge, flexibility to accept change, and rational reasoning/knowledge to understand EBP and nursing research. The program offered me more than I had expected, in terms of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, competency, and creativity. Each course and its innovative learning style (e.g., voice thread, youseeu, journal club, etc.) challenged, empowered, and motivated me to perform better, aim higher, and excel. My motivation is based on two things. Firstly, I really want to help other people as much as I can. The understanding of human behaviour is the key for me to help others improve their well-being. During my work experience at , I was fortunate enough to have experienced firsthand and learned, many different sides of what goes into a project, the general process of how a project is initially planned, developed and completed; as well as how much work and detail goes into every stage. Another valuable lesson I have learned during these 12 weeks, were the many different types of work an Engineer has to perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and responsibilities that I could perform, as a Civil Engineer.
