PAKISTAN: ePLANET VENTURES CASE STUDY
Asad has many choices to make operating business in Pakistan and its environs/neighbors. Although political instability is high, many factors favor business establishment and operation. Culture of Pakistan is among the major empidiments for ePlanet to efficiently operate a business.
There are various strategic choices that are at the disposal of ePlanet to venture in. Earlier on as Asad had completed his studies at London school of economics, he identified that there were green pastures in business operation in the areas communications and wireless, media, advertising, computing software, and consumer internet among others. These areas were still a strategic area of choice that ePlanet could venture in in Pakistan “which was largely untapped market.” (Sameer, Tania and Sarah, 2010). Additionally, the company can invest in consumer Internet/web 2.0 and break the distance issue that most entrepreneurs were inclined to.
Another area of choice is to expand to neighboring countries like china and UAE due to good longstanding relations with Pakistan. However, for a business to flourish well, then the business must thrive in the home country as Asad puts it. Therefore, operating within Pakistan was a choice.
Investing in a business operating in Pakistan had many advantages. In the first palce, President Musharaf had restored peace in Pakistan by reducing terrorism, corruption and also undertook vigorous economic reforms for Pakistan. The GDP for the country had grown by 7% per annum. All this measures were great stimulation for the field of entrepreneurship in the country. My country (Kenya) has is almost similar to Pakistan. It has experienced stronger political stability and attracted many investors. Generally, Kenya is among top ten African countries that attracts business, protects investors, has a relative ease to start businesses.
In conclusion, Pakistan is a good place to operate a business due to its cheap labor, good economy, good relations with neighboring countries and the favorable tax policies.
