Analyzing of P21 Document
The Overview and Organization
In the 21st century, the world changes rapidly. Like many other areas, education is also searching for the changes of itself in this building environment. This document presents an overview of 21st century teaching and learning for us. It shows a combination of “21st century student outcomes and the support systems that are needed to produce these outcomes” (p. 1).
There are 4 elements in the student outcomes: “the core subjects and themes learn and innovation skills; information, media and technology skills; life and career sills.” There also 4 points under the support system: “standards and assessment; curriculum and instruction; professional development and learning environments.” All these contents are interconnected with each other. They cannot stand alone to create a learning environment in 21st century.

Applicability to my Area of Study
The P21 Document is very useful for me because this document is closely related with my major-education and the contemporary world. Education has become increasingly important to the development process of the world mainly because of the growing value of command over information and knowledge in the 21st century. Nowadays, the development of science and technology make new challenges for the development of the society. It also makes even more requirements on education in the 21st century.
Therefore, educators should know how to provide the environment and knowledge for students in a way which is suitable to the current social development. P21 Document includes lots of information which is very useful for educators and students who is major in education. For example, it summarizes the “assessment of 21st century skills” (p. 8). This is the content I never touched with. The document has given me a vision of this area. It is eye-opening for me to read it.

The latest fad that has swept the states is called the “21st-Century Skills”. With this, the expectation is that students will improve skills such as cooperative learning and critical thinking, and in the end, be able to compete for jobs in the global economy more efficiently (Ravitch). Putting a priority on skills pushes many subjects, but skill-centered, knowledge-free education has never worked according to Ravitch.
An educational system should not control its students’ minds; instead, it should be arranged in a way that builds the students’ success with a goal to lead a person to conquer his/her purposes.
Adults who work in schools must be up to date and aware of the current curriculums in the countries they live in. Children and young people must have a well balanced curriculum that adheres to the outcomes of the Every Child Matters
PCP is a recreational drug with hallucinogenic and dissociative properties. The drug was first produced as a potential agent for anesthesia but was later recognized as a dangerous substance of abuse that can significantly alter mental status. It is classified as a schedule ll controlled substance. PCP is currently illegal worldwide, including the United States. An article named, “PCP”, elaborates on the effects PCP has on your mental state:
Creating a learning and safe environment where students can grow through a system the gives them the attention and healthy activities they need to expand their minds. I got a quote from John Gatto in his writing “We Need Less Schools, Not More” he states “education is about discovering the meaning and purpose of oneself” (54). Gatto is illustrating that a working education system should push students towards the path of what they enjoy and what they want to learn so they can understand their meaning and purpose when they graduate and walk off into the world. That is why I agree with Gatto on his view of helping students find out there purpose and meaning and adding on to that Gatto also incorporated the importance of making students unique as he also was quoted for saying “your education should make you unique” (56). The importance of being unique is because you bring a different aspect to the table when another people speak upon different ideas. You are able to see things others cannot. Incorporating a trait such as unique will take time but will only benefit us as a country that is why I installed it into my education

Going to school and getting a great education is important for a successful future in today’s world. Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. In today’s society, gaining a high level of education is almost always mandatory for many jobs. There are many changes being done to the education system along with new items and ways of teaching in the classroom. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.

In an age of rapid change due to so many technology and innovative advances, a revolutionary change in the educational system is as vital as what our next energy source is. Education is the most powerful wealth in the world and it demands more attention, and where better to start with than out youth. The school system will soon go out of date due to the information highway and information availability if there isn?t a dramatic change in the way things are run in our domestic institutional facilities. The reason why college was such a success in the 20th century was because books were all of a sudden available to students on university campus. Now with internet, a student could specialize their profession solely with the computer with the click of a button. Something needs to be done to smoothen the rigid gaps and cracks in the school system before the technological pace at which we are advancing decides to bring the whole thing down.
It is noticeable that the system of education is changing from time to time based on financial issues and how the world is growing. In the past, individuals taught the education system from the oldest member of the family to children, and their members were charging fees from the families that sent their children to them. Which meant that education was an important thing in all ages. Nowadays, the education is shaped to an official system run by professional people in governments and many countries invest high amounts towards education which makes evidence of how important it is in our current life. Every country has a different system of education based on their financial stability, government infrastructure and the standard of the government officials. Teaching in the 21st Century has come about due to the realisation that the current education system has fallen behind the modern world, become outdated and ineffectual. We are over a decade into a Century which has brought forth an information age with limitless resources and instant access to information. Collaboration has turned global, with people all over the world communicating, sharing ideas and solving common issues through and with technology. The issue has become more so how to teach rather than what. Education in the 21st Century calls for personalising learning so that every learner, regardless of learning style, race, culture, creed or gender, may develop to their full potential and promote “life-long learning” (Collins, 2009, p. 104) for both teacher and learner alike. It also brings to light the importance of redefining the roles of both teacher and learner.
Education has transformed immensely from where it first began and needs to continually transform in the future to meet the growing needs and expectations of society. Consequently, teaching and learning are quite different in the 21st century when compared to previous centuries. There are several key factors driving change in education today with the focus on globalisation and social factors, including: Information Communication Technology (ICT), cultural and social inclusion along with changes in the economy, jobs and businesses. Additionally, 21st century learners are expected to ascertain a multitude of qualities and skills in order to succeed in today’s world. In discussing the future of education, it is important to identify what elements differentiate a future classroom from a traditional one. The main difference between the two is in how content is provided. Instead of displaying content solely on blackboards, future education embraces technology in presentation. Advances in technology allow for many mediums to convey information, and so content can be presented through power points, video presentations, and interactive websites. In addition to presentation, the future of education embraces a new medium for communication. Student’s no longer have to meet one on one with professors and peers but can communicate through email and discussion boards. Access to content is also different. Transformational, in this term the outcome of education will be drive from the academic real to the authentic life and students shall get an experience when they graduate. Spady and Marshall (1992) explained in contrast to the current educational system and traditional OBE by incorporates all four principle into its design, namely: (1) Clear focus on significant outcomes, all facets of the program are aligned to achieve the exit outcome; (2) Design-down Process from Outcomes, ensure that the goals are the primary focus; (3) Emphasis is success for All, which mean that all student are to accomplish high performance levels over time and are given credit for them; and (4) Extended time and support, all students are assured additional time and help so they can be successful in demonstrating outcomes.
