Overcoming Obstacles Faced By Failure At Summer Camp

Failure is an obstacle everyone faces during their lifetime. Everyone deals with failure differently. Choosing to succeed and not accepting failure allows me to fulfill my life’s dreams. How I choose to deal with failure in my life will determine my life’s success. Failing does not mean that I will not succeed. Although some people get discouraged by failure, I believe that failure has made me a better person because when I failed at summer camp, I became determined to make it a positive lesson in my life. It never occurred to me that I could fail at summer camp. I was a shy, curly haired, blue eyed girl with big dreams about summer camp. I had failed at several things before in my young life. For example, failing to jump rope, learning to play the piano, and baking my first pie all ended in failed attempts. However, I kept trying and eventually succeeded in each of them. Thomas Edison failed 1,000 times before he succeeded and invented the light bulb. J.K. Rowling was famously rejected by a mighty 12 publishers before Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone was accepted. Dr. Seuss’s first book was rejected by 27 different publishers.

My second camp experience was a huge success! Camp allowed me to develop friendships, grow as a leader, and inspire other kids to excel. I turned my previous failure into a positive learning experience. Last year, I became a junior counselor. Becoming a junior counselor allowed me to further develop my leadership skills, encourage new campers, and organize activities. Counselor status allowed me to take my failure and teach young campers how to make their week a success. Because of my first failed camp experience, I easily related to the young, scared girls. Helping others overcome their fear of failing allowed me to gain strength in my ability to succeed. I took the misfortune of failing at camp and made it a positive learning
