The Prominence Of Overcoming Obstacles To Achieve Goals “If you want to shine like Sun first you have to burn like it” - Adolf Hitler Prevailing drawbacks and overpassing obstacles are both crucial skills to have in life, and as such most people we may look up to as an example, are mostly examples of people who obtained those skill sets and made their way up the chain, sometimes without nothing but that crucial set of skills. As my example of describing how important it is to be able to overcome obstacles that everyone may face in order to achieve your goals, I’ve chosen the infamous group “NWA”. Originating from the harsh streets of Los Angeles in 1986 - It was tough times in the city of the Queen of Angels: with drugs on the rise and crime rates in addition to significant excessive force by the LAPD, NWA was a determined, motivated group of Hip Hop artists who against all the odds of financial statuses or difficulties and discrimination at the time made it to be written in history books as arguably some of the best in the field.
Looming obstacles in the life of an individual serve as molds which instill perseverance, hard work in an individual's identity and bring hope for the future.
During the 80s a controversial group of rappers came together and changed the game of Hip Hop for generations to come. Niggas with Attitude, otherwise known as N.W.A, was comprised of the rappers; Ice Cube, MC Ren, Easy E, Yella, and Dr. Dre. Theses rappers spoke the truth about life in the streets; the hustling, the trapping, the sexual encounters, the gang life, and the most important, the racism. They shined a light on these issues in a violent, sexually explicit, yet intelligent and revolutionary way. The Facebook page, *N.W.A* creates an environment that connects people of all races, backgrounds, and ages; with the goal of immortalizing, and spreading the original message of the group.
“Adversity has the effect of eliciting [revealing] talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant [hidden],” –Horace. These wise words of Horace prove a point. Everyone has talents of some kind, however these people need to discover it on their own. Adversity, whether it be danger, hardship, or a simple challenge between friends, gives people the motivation to do things they wouldn’t have done otherwise.
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
Getting somewhere is not just the destination, but even more so the journey. The goals are our destination and obstacle and temptations litter the voyage. Like Odysseus, achieving these goals is not a cinch. Obstacles must be faced or avoided, and temptations should be resisted.
Obstacles are opportunities in disguise. If a person is starving with only one sunflower seed, he/she has a choice to either plant the sun flower seed or to eat it. His obstacle is only having one sunflower, but his opportunity is to plant it. Women and men from urban areas are faced with these decisions everyday of choosing starvation v. assurance, mind v. matter, now v. forever. They are hit with harsh reality in some of the most severe ways, that the bad options can outweigh the good. Alternatively, there those who are hit, though they fight back. The obstacles of living in an urban environment, being faced with controversial experiences, and their relationships during their childhood are what shaped their character and possibly dictate
“ the police comin’ straight from the underground/ A young nigga got it bad cause I’m/ And not the other color so police think/ They have the authority to kill a minority.” ( McCann, 2012) N.W.A wrote about issues in Compton, California that no one would talk and if someone did nothing would change. This group helped their hometown in so many ways by just rapping but sending a powerful message to the world about what they Dr.Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and Mc Ren went through. In this time and many years before the United States many African Americans were experiencing police brutality and not only that racism and so there were African Americans who wanted to inform other states about struggles in their own city.
Even though life can be hard at points, the clip from the movie Facing the Giants by Alex Kendrick shows how if you don’t give up you will eventually get around it. Brock, a football player on the team, had to do the Death Crawl to the 50 yard line because he doubted his team. The Death Crawl is when someone lays on your back and you have to crawl. To begin with, The coach told Brock to put on a blindfold so he could avoid distractions. “ I want you to do the Death Crawl blindfolded, Brock.” Brock couldn’t pay attention to the yard line he was at which helped him overcome the obstacle. Furthermore, The coach told Brock to keep going and not give up. The coach says “C’mon Brock, don’t quit
The way that N.W.A started their movement was unexpected. They had a big impact on the world. The group N.W.A came together as a hiphop rap group for the love of the music. As the group became bigger the police started
In (2) “Straight Outta Compton” by N.W.A (Ni**az Wit Attitudes) it reveals that life in Los Angeles streets are the savage realities in life for the group members
Growing up a young black male in Compton, California was an especially difficult task around 1970. During that time drugs were being sold at a record breaking high. Crimes committed and racism continuously took turns for the worse. It was not until the 1980’s that a group took rise to stardom. A voice that spoke for the ones in the ghetto. Four men from the streets of Compton’s slum formed a rap group which became known as “Niggaz Wit Attitudes” (N.W.A). They faced tremendous scrutiny, but never forgot where they came from. N.W.W. was a fearless group who revolutionized the rap culture forever.
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
A road stretches before you. To the left, it’s wide and easy, but grants you nothing in return. To the right, it’s narrow; filled with thorns and the unknown. But at the end is riches and happiness, coming from your dedication and preservation. Hardships can lead people to better things.
...onsidered miniscule today, they were the foundation for every form of rapping that is present today. People were amazed by Hollywood because prior to him nobody thought of creating rhyme schemes that were performed over entire songs. Other cultural aspects of hip-hop, to the ignorance of most people, can be contributed to the Nation of Gods and Earths. They were a cultural organization that developed their ideas after their founder, Clarence 13X, left the Nation of Islam. They are responsible for things such as the “b-boy stance”, which was a pose where one stands with their feet shoulder width apart and their arms crosses. They also pioneered several phrases that are indicative with the hip hop culture; for example, “What’s up G(shortened for of God) and “Peace.” They have a major role in establishing the hip-hop aesthetic, at least that of the late 70’s and 80’s.
...nk of as accomplishments that shaped who we are. Measuring ourselves against our personal achievents and the adversity we face is one of the many ways that we can examine our lives and potential. Adversity plays such a big role in our lives that it's almost invisible. We don't realize that practically everyday we face it and set it up to determine who we are going to be. Sometimes people are given a really crappy deck of cards and don’t know how to handle them. When were in a difficult situation, or faced with adversity we have two choices. Battle through it and become an even greater individual because of it or succumb to the situation and give up. It it all depends on how much determination a person has to fight through the adversity and in turn, become a better person.
