Overcoming Obstacles Even though life can be hard at points, the clip from the movie Facing the Giants by Alex Kendrick shows how if you don’t give up you will eventually get around it. Brock, a football player on the team, had to do the Death Crawl to the 50 yard line because he doubted his team. The Death Crawl is when someone lays on your back and you have to crawl. To begin with, The coach told Brock to put on a blindfold so he could avoid distractions. “ I want you to do the Death Crawl blindfolded, Brock.” Brock couldn’t pay attention to the yard line he was at which helped him overcome the obstacle. Furthermore, The coach told Brock to keep going and not give up. The coach says “C’mon Brock, don’t quit
until you have nothing left.” Brock wanted to quit and stop but the coach convinced him to keep crawling even though he was in pain which helped him overcome the Death Crawl. Finally, after the coach kept telling Brock to keep going once Brock took the blindfold off he saw, that he ended up in the endzone. “ Look up Brock, look where you are, you are in the endzone.” Brock kept going because the coach was encouraging him to keep going so he could overcome the Death Crawl. Even though, there will be some difficult obstacles in your way in life, do not give up and you will eventually get around them.
At some point in life most people have allowed at least one challenge to defeat them, if not more. Then there are those people who view these challenges as simply that, a challenge. This was the theme throughout Kyle Maynard’s novel, No Excuses, I learned that it is how we go about conquering these challenges that defines us as people. Throughout his novel he notes things will not always come easily; therefore, it is up to us to dig deep and conquer our goals. By finding alternate routes and adjusting your mindset, we are able to achieve any goal we set our minds to. Because it is not the obstacle that holds us back but it is ourselves that keeps us from fulfilling our greatest
Giving up shows a lack of self-respect and self-worth. Each time we push through adversity, we become stronger and more capable of dealing with the next adverse situation. Adversity in life is an inevitability and as such, pushing through those hardships build our soul’s armor and our ability to overcome. Never give up!
To continue on there are always two options, just give up or keep on pushing until the goal has been reached. The people that decide to just quit most likely have a fixed mindset, while the people that don’t give up have a growth mindset. Eduardo Briceno discusses that when obtaining a growth mindset, setbacks don’t take a toll on the person, they will continue to press on until the goal has been reached. Briceno’s point is that when you realize that anything is possible, then you bring yourself to new levels. Overall having a growth mindset allows people to complete any realistic goal that they
Adversity enhances ones’ positive characteristics due to the provision of an ideal environment for establishing integrity and developing a mature mindset. This conclusion is valid because people tend to learn from their mistakes, thus gain a broader perspective on life.
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
Sometimes a journey can test your mental and physical capacity, but there is something inside all of us that tells us to keep pushing forward when coming across a challenge. In the story “from Wild,” the main character’s strength is put to the test when she is lost in the wilderness alone. “Turning back made logical sense. It was safe. It was reasonable. But nothing in me would do it” (Strayed 36). Once a person’s strength is challenged it becomes easier to persevere because everyone wants to feel accomplished and reach their destination. The main character knew that it was safer to turn back and go home, but she also wanted to keep pushing which made her stronger mentally and physically in the long
As a child my parents worried about my educational development. They didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep up with the other children. I was in the third grade and didn’t know any English. I struggled academically my remaining elementary years to catch up to the other children, but it wasn’t long until I exceeded my peers in middle school.
Given the tough times that everyone goes through at some point in life, one might think that perseverance dies off—that perseverance is no longer a goal. But in fact, there are those that manage to look through the dark tough times and achieve a goal.
In life, people will always have something to say about you in everything one does in life, either negative or positive, but it’s the moment when you let what is said upon you affect the way you live your life, that when its becomes a problem. I for myself have been victim of so many people saying things about me and letting get into my head, but I had the courage to overcome a lot of obstacles like that. I have struggled with a lot of obstacles in my life some got the better of me while I have been able to overcome most of them. I am writing this essay to give an example of an obstacle which I struggled with for a very long time and I nearly took the best of me, but with time I was able to overcome it.
My father would always tell me a story about a warrior who decided to leave during the battle and hide in a cave in the Himalayan mountains. He felt tired and hungry from fighting vigorously. Since he did not have anything to do, he became curious and began to look around at the dark weary walls. He then saw an ant carrying a grain of rice to the other side of the wall. However, the grain of rice would fall. The ant crawled back to where the grain of rice had fallen and picked it up to embark on its journey to the opposite wall. The determined ant did this over again for thirty times. The warrior learned an important lesson that when we face challenges, we need to try our best and never lose hope. The courageous warrior went back to the battle feeling undaunted and diligent towards winning the battle.
The thing is, if you give up, you will never forgive yourself in the future and you will regret it a lot. This is why I believe that if you just stay positive through tough situations, you will get through anything in life. There have been many times in my athletic career where I just wanted to give up and quit the sport. Whether it being basketball, football, track, or baseball. But, there was always something in the back of my mind that told me to keep thinking positive and to keep trying.
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
... like some might have, I wouldn’t have played. Especially if I thought I’d further hurt myself, but since I thought I could contribute to my team, it was my obligation to them to try. And although I played with caution, I played without fear and with confidence in myself. “…..it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” (Rocky Balboa 2006). By choosing to get up when life knocked me down I discovered that even at my lowest points I can still persevere and achieve great feats. My life is by no means easy, but what some might see as setbacks I see as life pushing me into the “deep end pool”. I see a challenge and an opportunity to try and swim and achieve greatness. And once you get into the habit of “swimming” winning becomes a state of mind.
It is not uncommon to hear a professional football player coming back from an injury stronger than they were before; this is the mindset of overcoming adversity in failure. The idea that just because one can not do it now does not mean everything is over. “Failure is the only thing that leads one to success” (Stackvids). Through failure one rebuilds to become stronger. Overcoming adversity in all aspects is not easy; people go into a fight or flight state of mindset. It is easy to cut one's losses and do something else but even harder to fight through it. “This fact alone separates the 256 that make it and the 15,332 that do not”(Hilton).
Life isn’t going to go the way you want it to.” (Vanderwerf 1) Mark Weber said to a group of students over a live videoconference. Life has its ups and downs, and certain people get thrown harder than others, but we all have hardships that we must face. We flourish from our mistakes and the aching we face in our lifetime. But how do we do it, how do people keep pushing through when everything feels like it is ending? What is shouting at them in the back of their mind that keeps them moving forward?
