Outdoor On-Land and Water Activities in UK
I have compiled a detailed report based on two outdoor adventure
activities, one land-based and one water-based. Within the report I
have looked at a number of aspects:
· What is meant by outdoor adventure activities and those that are
available within the UK and in my local area
· The benefits of the two activities and;
· The participants involved within it
· The role of national governing bodies and regulatory bodies in
outdoor adventure activities
What are Outdoor Adventure Activities (OAA's)?
Outdoor adventure activities can be categorised into 3 main areas
(only 2 of which I will look into further):
· Water based activities (such as windsurfing and sailing)
· Land based activities (such as skiing and caving)
· Air based activities (parachuting and hand gliding) - these
activities will generally be too expensive for us to participate in
during school.
* The spider diagram above gives examples of various OAA's that we
could partake in.

The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. In this paper the definition of therapeutic recreation will be discussed as well as what should be included in the definition and what should be rejected. This definition will mainly focus on health and use the Health Promotion Model to further explain my choice to focus on health and well-being. I will also be discussing the importance of inclusion in therapeutic recreation for different learning styles in many environments, and the significance of diversity in the community and what we hope to achieve by being fully inclusive.
A physical journey occurs as a direct result of travelling from one place to another over land, sea or even space. The physical journey can occur individually or collectively, but always involves more than mere movement. Instead physical journeys are accompanied by inner growth and development, catalysed by the experiences and the decisions that impact the outcome of the journey. These journey concepts and the interrelationship between physical and emotional journeys is exemplified in the text; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, the children’s book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and the film Stand By Me directed by Rob Reiner.
Outdoor recreation is a way of a life for me. I love backpacking, paddling, and bouldering. I spend as much time as I can out side. Having a career where I can be outside and being able to introduce my passions with other is my dream
The organizations provides fun and creative activities while also teaching people conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, bonding, and confidence skills. Adolescence is a transitional period in life and is marked by changes and uncertainty. Even if an adolescent isn’t going through a crisis or a hard time, it would still be fun to take outdoor educations courses compared to standard high school or college courses.
I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”

Fishing is one of the most popular forms of outdoor recreation in the United States. Estimates of the rate of participation and number of persons 16 years and older participating range from 17% or 35.2 million to 29% or 57.9 million (USDOI and USDOC 1997; Cordell et al.1999).Fishing is popular outdoor activity than other activities because it low cost and physical demands. From an economic demand standpoint, more anglers to choose destinations that are similar in quality, nearby, and at lower cost so they can make more trips than they would to more distant destinations (Loomis and Walsh 1997).
The phrase ecotourism seems to be on the lips of many travel agents and corporations looking for new ideas in executive or "yuppie" getaways. But many "civilians" are wondering what ecotourism is and what is expected of them if they do go on a so-called ecotour. Ecotourism is defined in different ways, by different groups of people with different agendas. Many tourists are attracted to the adventure that is associated with many remote, natural areas. Others wish to encourage conservation practices in environmentally sensitive areas, using profits to restore habitat, change public perception through education, and develop community. However, local people also want the opportunity for new jobs and capitalist ventures. No matter how one chooses to look at ecotourism, it is a new element shaping the use of rainforests and other natural settings. Likewise, ecotourism appears to be altering the lifestyles of indigenous peoples and causing certain changes in local animal behaviors.
Ecotourism is the responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well being of the local people and involves interpretation and education. Ecotourism is a new form of tourism that is recently being adopted in underdeveloped countries. Oaxaca is one of the poorest states in México. There are no industries and there are very few ways to earn revenue. Most of the communities live in poverty and there is a lot of immigration to USA. 25 years ago some NGO`s started helping to develop a couple of ecotourism projects in regions of this state. They educated people towards sustainable development, environment protection and sustainable tourism.
For the past few decades other forms of tourism, also known as niche tourism, have been becoming more popular, particularly:
There are about 70% of our earth is covered by water, and people just know a little part of it now. Underwater tourism is an excitement and adventure, and it is also a special tourism concept. The undersea world attracts people to explore the mysterious of the ocean, and the underwater tourism is growing very fast basic on the new technology. Travelers can join this tourism by many different methods, such as underwater restaurant, underwater hotel and underwater activity. There are many travelers will try to have the experience of underwater tourism and spend a lots of many for that. Travelers
A true nature-lover’s dream, ecotourism allows the average traveller to enjoy pristine nature in its original form. Ecotourism, also known as jungle tourism, responsible tourism, and sustainable development, is one of the fastest growing trends in the tourism industry. Defined as responsible travel that benefits environmental conservation and improves the well being of local people, it acts as an alternative to conventional tourism, aiming to educate the traveller, provide funds for ecological conservation, foster respect and increase awareness of different cultures. It is a truly unique experience, where one has the opportunity to visit a corner of the earth that has evaded the touch of human hands.
Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where the physical environment and cultural background are the main attractions and is meant to give tourist another view of the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats. In recent years, “ecotourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors of the tourism market, influenced primarily by public demand for more environmentally and responsible tourism” (Boo, 1990, Eagles et al 1993). In addition, “ecotourism is the purposeful travel to natural areas to understand the culture and natural history of the environment; taking care not to alter the integrity of the ecosystem; producing economic opportunities that make the conservation of natural resources beneficial to local people” (Garen, 2000,221).
